The 2 teams I’ve watched vs the Sabres that impressed me the most were the leafs and hurricanes.
Leafs our this early east a shocker. I thought eastern conference showdown with the canes and they failed
Dubas and Keefe are probly leaving.
The flaw isn’t the coach or GM. It’s the core. How many more years will it take for the media to realize that?
Anyways. Sabres wise this is good news - Sabretooth9
Nhl network was talking about how only nylander seemed to have the 2nd gear needed for the playoffs and you can’t have that much money tied up in guys that don’t bring it in the playoffs.

Meh, mixed bag..
Big guys showed up in the 1st series
Not so much in the Panthers series
They were the better team in 4/5 against Florida and lost in 5.
Which would make it all the more hilarious if they blew up their core because they got goalied. - Swedish_Jesus
If you want to say they slightly outplayed Florida, that's fine. Couple of the games are razor thin margins. You should be consistent and point out that TB outplayed them by a wider margin.
Part of getting goalied is facing better goalies. Scrappy, budget goaltending and playing 12-7 did them no favors.

Leafs outplayed Florida by a wide margin in Games 1 and 2 and lost both.
Florida put the boots to Toronto in Game 3 and won (deservedly so).
Games 4 and 5 were toss ups, I’d argue the Leafs slightly outplayed Florida in both and lost both.
Bobrovsky saved 9.36 goals above expected. He earned that $10M salary these past few weeks

Someone nailed it square on the head when they observed that you over simplify everything. Games 2 & 4 were definitely more controlled by TO, and they blew game 2 with a few sloppy minutes early in the second and then really carried play as FL tried to protect their lead for the remainder of game. The other three games were more momentum swings throughout the games.
Each team had their parts of the games where they had the better of play. When Panthers had a lead, they would become more conservative and then the Leafs would pour it on trying to tie the game. Did you watch first period last night, or just look at spreadsheets after the game? Barkov and Luostarainen didn’t give up a single point while playing 5v5. They stifled the big dogs for the most part. Bob was indeed stellar, but it wasn’t just Bob.
The only conclusion I frequently reach while reading your posts is this; Your stats are no where near as golden as you believe them to be.

Dude was causing heart palpitations when he’d bring puck into FL zone. He was by far the most dangerous Leaf out there. Friggin guy would blow right past people. That goal he scored last night was a beauty.

I wonder what the Leaf's ownership group does now?
It seems they begrudgingly gave the management staff this season to right the ship.
Do they make massive changes there beginning with Shanny and extending through Dubas, which then likely flows through to Keefe?
I also wonder about Matthews and Marner. Do the Leaf's management team give consideration to what Zito did last season and look for similar strategy? Do one or both decide the grass may be greener elsewhere and refuse to extend? If so, then one would think the Leafs would need to trade before July 1st when clauses kick in for some.
Going to be another situation that will be funto watch. Depending on what happens, can KA find an opportunity?
-Kampf would be very high on my list to acquire for 4C.

Breaking: We have an agreement in principle on a trade with Toronto per our former blogger Hank.
To Sabres: Mitch Marner & Jake McCabe
To Toronto: Sabres 23 1st, Jack Quinn, Jiri Kulich - kingcong39
Pass. Too much to give up.
Marner is an excellent player no doubt. I am not sure the delta he brings to the team over what the combination of those three assets should bring is worth it, especially the contract now and in 2 years for Marner.
I love McCabe, just wish he was a RhD. I know he can play both sides, but don't think k he is as effective on the right.

We both wanted the leafs to lose.
Difference between you and I is that without a horse in the race I can have an objective perspective while there are hints of biases in yours.
Not your fault, you aren’t doing anything a fan of their team wouldn’t do, just reality.
Just because Florida had a lead, didn’t mean they didn’t have to get outplayed and cling by dear life in the example you provided.
Marner is fantastic, no doubt.
Sabres have bigger needs at multiple positions and will need players on ELC's soon enough.
Sabres were 3 of 32 in GF, while 26th of 32 in GA.
Blowing assets on this particular player given his $10.9m Could jeopardize acquiring a bonafide 2nd Pairing D, which is a critical part needed to reduce GA. Marner is a luxury IMO.
