yet we got the rights to bishop to hit the cap floor
- homiedclown

You cant see the difference between trading for gibson with 6 million + left per year and buying bishop to get to the floor?

Well we didn't have to worry about that did we. And seem to remember Levi saying after he signed that he wants to compete and play against the best. So bringing in someone to compete against is what He wants.
- Buff36

You really think levi wants the Sabres to trade for gibson?

Its coachspeak. These guys are coached to say the " right things".

Seems like upl is the competition. Imo

top 5 gm is about to become the first gm in the modern era to get a compensatory pick for being unable to sign a first round draft pick
- homiedclown

Billy G did it in 2022. Filip Johannson 2018 24th pick, they got Rieger Lorenz with pick 56.

It’s happened a few other times too, not overly common though.

he wanted the pick though, thought it was better value and he didn't want to sign him

https://www.prohockeyrumo...sign-filip-johansson.html

"Johansson, 22, has spent the last three seasons playing in the SHL, where his offensive numbers have never really improved. In 47 games this season the young defenseman had just three goals and 11 points. Not only that but he hasn’t been included in any major international events for Sweden since the U18 World Juniors in 2018 and signed a two-year extension with Leksands in December, which keeps him under contract through the 2023-24 season.

All that adds up to a player that didn’t hold a ton of upside for the Wild, and given the fact that they can now get a solid compensatory pick, leaving him unsigned makes at least some sense."

What does this even mean?

I said the Sabres were a budget team and wouldnt be adding gibson at 6 million to back up our phenom goalie prospect?

I'm about to stop having conversations with you if you're just gonna troll...

That's not factual. It's a guess.

We also would be upset about levi heading back to college and leaving as a free agent.

No way would he sign here with a 6 or 7 million $ goalie as the starter for 3 or 4 years IMO.

Wonder how Murray would have done?

- Boss34

That’s not a fact it’s a guess.

Counterpoint with a guess and not a fact.

Based upon Levi’s comments I don’t think he cares who Buffalo had as a goalie he was joining the team. Yes that’s a guess.

Fine, splitting hairs but Kevin Hayes and the Blackhawks. Like I said, rarer but not the first and won’t be the last.

The Sabres intentionally ignored the goalie position to make sure levi didnt go elsewhere.

Probably an opinion as well ☝️

Honestly really bums me out Johnson won’t sign. I endorsed the pick while others bemoaned for Kaliyev or Brink. Neither have done much. Watched him here for his USHL team a few times, he’ll be a steady NHLer. Is what it is, unfortunately.

They didn’t ignore it. They tried to trade for Murray and signed comrie. As much as Comrie wasn’t the answer his numbers looked like he might be a viable option.

That 2nd round goalie will probably be splitting time with levi next season?

Suprised everyone is missing how high the Sabres management is on levi.

Trading for 6 million $ longterm backups 😀

If you didnt care what levi says , why did you quote him and bring that to your post?

The Sabres organization is absolutely head over heels in love with levi. That's what I heard, so I'm basing my opinion on that. 😉

No of course not, it all depends on your definition of ignoring I would suppose. I would think taking the first or second goalie twice within 5 drafts wouldn’t be considered ignoring imo (should take one every draft imo, but later rounds)

So with Levi on his ELC 2 of the 3yrs you are paying 6.4m and 925,000. So for the next 2yrs you have Quality Goaltending for 3.65m for both.
