Let's see if he even gets there. Taking less to stay in Florida seems likely.

Would an extra mil or extra year surprise you, if he leaves?

- Lunaion

Yes it would, mainly due to his age and style of play.

Darcy/Terry had to get Ville Leino off a strong playoff performance. Easy to imagine the interest going way up on him.

Feels unanimous that everyone here would take him at the projection. Pretty good sign that it would take a bit more.

Zellweger sure would've been nice instead of Poltapov when the Sabres had the first pick in the 2021 2nd round.

More than a few people called for the Zellweger pick as it was a surprise he fell out of the first round.

Yeah, Anaheim has done a really nice job there, even if they don't see the ice for Anaheim, they can definitely be used as nice chips for other pieces. Wish the Sabres had half that.

It's not like Evolving Hockey plucked the number out of a hat. It's based on a lot of comparable players and their extensions.

Personally, I would not want to sign him to a 4 year deal, as a player with his style ages rapidly, often out of nowhere.

I'm not even sure I'd want to sign him to a 3 year deal.

2 years is as far as I'd comfortably go.

Funny that the Rosen goal is listed as an insurance goal 😅

Are stairs the least efficient human invention ever? Does anyone actually walk up or down stairs or do we all do some kind of hustle? Why doesn’t a full step equal a full stair - and why are two stairs too tall to take a full step without marching? Stairs are so inefficient, we invented stairs that do the stepping for us and we still run up and down them.

All stairs should be ramps with grip and railings.

Not knocking their work at all, just pointing out that there are things that drive deals up. Feels like Gudas has a lot of those working for him atm.

Even though I'm not the biggest Trouba fan as I think he has a little Ristolainen in him in terms of how he plays from time to time, the defense you outlined above would be a big improvement.

The cost against the cap is another discussion.

- Dahlin ($9.5M estimated after next season
- Power ($7M estimated...?)
- Samuelsson $4.3M
- Trouba $5.5M (per the deal suggested)
- Lyubushkin $2.75M (one season left)
- Gudas ($3.5M per for 4 years per EH's projection)
- Stillman $1.4M
- Jokiharju $2.5M
- Bryson $1.9M

That's $34M locked up with the 7 you mentioned, and $38.5M if you include both Jokiharju and Bryson.

Having 40% of your cap, and maybe even 45% of your cap, tied up in your defense feels like a lot.

Paying your bottom pair a total of $6M per is also a lot. It's why many teams rotate their bottom pair every season or two, to save money.

The Sabres would likely need to do that if they are paying their top roughly $26M+ per against their cap.

- kingcong39

Good points, hence why I said in an earlier post you saw that I am not one to want to pay more than $2m to bottom pair Dmen. That lineup would be fun to watch, but it simply won't happen. Was just for fun.

Gudas isn't signing here, nor is Adams going for him.
Joker needs to go, he's too soft for 3rd pair, and just plain not good enough.
Lyubushkin has 1 year left...maybe he re- signs?
Bryson should get moved/sent down.

I just hope KA gets a very solid 2nd pair guy who can play up as needed.
They should get a better Dman rather than Stillman, I think that has about a 25% chance of happening and therefore Stillman plays.

Sammy Dahlin
Power Trade
Stillman Lyubushki
That is certainly more likely.

Adams isn’t bringing in trouba.

Think hanafin via trade not trouba

Is this the part of the offseason where we are signing any guy because they can hit? I mean come on

This is a Team I would have on my dart board, they are loaded with D prospects!!!

- Buff36

IMO, for the D they need to pursue
- proven NHLers
- preferred age around 26
- high Defensive ability
- brings some physicality to clear the net front t
- proven shot blocker

A younger, RhD version of Ryan McDonagh would be ideal.
