Marner is fantastic, no doubt.
Sabres have bigger needs at multiple positions and will need players on ELC's soon enough.
Sabres were 3 of 32 in GF, while 26th of 32 in GA.

Blowing assets on this particular player given his $10.9m Could jeopardize acquiring a bonafide 2nd Pairing D, which is a critical part needed to reduce GA. Marner is a luxury IMO.

I posted it for the mcabe lovers

he lead the team at -7 and was probably playing lesser minutes when the team was down a goal late in the game

Schenn impressed me quite a bit, if Murray isn't available, he would be a nice short-term acquisition..2 years.
Let him play next to Power for a year, continue search for longer-term partner and let Schenn play 3rd pair in year 2.

We both wanted the leafs to lose.

Difference between you and I is that without a horse in the race I can have an objective perspective while there are hints of biases in yours.

Not your fault, you aren’t doing anything a fan of their team wouldn’t do, just reality.

Just because Florida had a lead, didn’t mean they didn’t have to get outplayed and cling by dear life in the example you provided.

Have a good day sir

- Swedish_Jesus

Certainly, they didn’t “have to”, but that’s focusing on playing responsible defense and not pushing too hard for offensive chances. Dumping it in and out when in doubt. When FL used to keep pushing for offensive chances is when they would yakk up leads. And saying they were “clinging for life” is hyperbolic as hell.
Good day to you, too

My favorite part of new age hockey analysis is people pretending that the goalies aren’t like apart of the team or something.

“Bobrovsky stole the series” yeah he plays hockey for the Florida Panthers. Him playing well is incorporated in saying the team played well

You clearly didn’t take the ice temperature into account, as an unbiased perspective I have and the leafs skate sharpener was at fault as he failed to adjust the stone back to northern standards.

Agreed to a large extent. But the rest of the 18 players can play like poop and the G stand on his head, I wouldn't, in that case say the team (19 players) played well.

But thereafter allowing him to see shots, keeping the opposition ent to the outside, cutting off cross-slot passes and generally getting the puck out after an opportunity while the G stands on his head...that I would say thee team played well.

Maybe calling it Jam, instead of Grit will help Spreadsheeters grasp the concept.

From Leaf fan “fifty missions”
“ You have to watch the games and not just read the stats. Why is the only guy who consistently drove to the net Morgan Reilly? I'll even give Nylander some credit - he did it very occasionally.
The rest of our guys were perimeter darlings. East-west, stop and curls, 35 ft wrist shots. THAT is why we scored 2 - TWO goals for 7 - SEVEN straight games. You have to get to the middle of the (frank)ing ice. It blows me away Shanahan has watched over this poop for so long - that was his game.
No jam. Florida had loads of JAM. Look at that (frank)ing wiener Gudas on the winner. That's how you win in the playoffs. It's not just counting body checks unfortunately.”

This is what they ignore when they use solely stats to try to argue that the Leafs were in control, or severely outplaying, or whatever.
