Jeff Carter is stealing paychecks. I know enough to recognize that.

Dude made something like 60mil in his career. He knows he sucks. Sid, Geno and Letang knows he sucks. Sullivan knows he sucks. Instead of doing the right thing and calling it a career, he puts them all in a bad spot by showing up for the check which he can't possibly need. I don't even recall him sticking up for his guys even though he's probably the biggest guy on the team. Can't say that about the other old guys.

You have an affinity for crap players.....hockey guy.

My question is when will V. Puustinen get his chance. He is very much like Jake Guentzel at the ahl level and he must be close to getting his chance. Any word?

Does he though? If I remember, Sullivan played Carter in quite a few situations where you want one of your best players. For example, overtime, second power play, and key defensive situations.

Correct if I'm wrong, you like to say Granlund sucks. You put all the blame on Hextall, yet Sullivan is the guy who, not only dressed him every game, but played him on a second line, the second power play, and the penalty kill. Sounds to me like Sullivan had a fairly high opinion of the guy.

I’m not one to give Trouba the benefit of the doubt but I agree with Marshal’s take on this. Absolutely anyone hitting Meier there would have made head contact. He scared head first into two guys with possession of the puck. I think calling that predatory is a slippery slope to being against open ice his.

That said: (frank) Trouba.

He won’t score 12 goals next year.
- Grinder47

Maybe not, maybe he does..but there's more to it than that, man. Carter is a major liability at 5 on 5. Far more goals scored against the Pens when he's on the ice, than scored for the Pens. The nickname Crater didn't just come from nowhere. He's cooked dude. Maybe 4th line winger is for the best if he MUST be played because he cannot keep up with C duties at all. Good at FO's though.

If he plays close to 80 games and is given regular PP time, he'll luck into at least 10.

It's not about doing "the right thing." No one forced them to offer Carter his contract, and nothing illegal was done. No matter how much he's made, why would he willing walk away from $3 million? That's just an idiotic thing to assume ANYONE would do.

If the Pens wants to, they can:
1) Buy him out
2) Attempt to trade him
3) Waive him to save ~1/3 of his cap hit (assuming no one takes him).

So your response to a Very nice and clean Trouba hit is Jeff Carter should retire. You’ve gone mad mike. I’m glad he’s playing out his contract. As long as he’s 4th line. Everyone on the team loves him, not his fault Crosby Malkin are aging as well.

It's not anyone's fault his game has gone to poop. It's also not his fault that he was offered that contract. He'll play it out, then maybe sign a PTO or vet minimum 1-year deal somewhere, and then retire.

Dude went through the middle with his head down. He deserves literally anything he gets. You just love to see it when there’s someone there to teach them a lesson.
- Grinder47

Completely agree. Not sure what Trouba is supposed to do there. Play the puck and figure skater spin around him? Meier put himself in that situation and got drilled. Trouba is a head hunter, and often makes some over the line hits but this one he kept his elbow down, didn't leave his feet, and barely went upward on contact.

Guentzel had 42 points in 33 games before joining the Pens.
Puustinen has never been over a point per game, or even close to it.

He's not much like Jake.

I dunno, I think Meier is still coming back to Earth. He probably doesn't even know his name right now. That was like Scott Stevens'esque.

CapFriendly has his buyout at a $1M cap hit this year and $1M next year. Seems like a no brainer to me.

Read the fine print:
This is a 35-plus contract and therefore the buyout has no effect on the players cap hit

Carter don't fn care about the team tbh. I don't hate the guy but he's washed now.

We've made so many bad mistakes this off-season. Jesus.

No... My response is you're supposedly the "hockey person" and I'm not, yet you seem to love a lot of players that aren't good. I respect Jeff Carter's career, but he was brutal for most of this year, and he's going to have a repeat performance next year.

I was unaware they "clarified" the rule about head contact, so I guess I'm not a hockey person......whatever.
