What's long term? 2 years, 3 years, 4+ years? - boilermaker100
I've read somewhere there was a 4-5 year window on the rebuild, but Bedard speeds it up. Maybe a 3-4 year contract won't be long term given the ELCs and the timeframe. |

I might work at a large hospital very close to the UC so I'm used to being there (although I'm mostly remote though from 2021 onward). - Popsghostly

Wiz, I see Yager's stock is falling in this year's draft. You have him at 14. Wasn't he a projected top 5 pick last year. Do you know what the story is and would you take him at 19/20 if available? - boilermaker100
Sorry I started answering and lost it before I finished...but will answer you soon.
Yager was always an astounding shot and the release is terrific. Gets it off in tight space. He really good while carrying, to adjust his positioning to get the goalie to bit and then he shots for where he was.
Solid up and down centre wing who isn't gonna woe you laterally as much a patrol up and down like centres have to do.
The size in under 5' 11" and 175+ but there isn't any dynamic take you out of your seat, but he is a terrific junior player whose attributes haven't faded as much as the mockers have found new flavors to drool over.
Yeah Brayden Yager there at #19/20? a lot of defenders would have to fill the space above that 319/20 for that to happen I think.

Yeah whoever decided to put lefthand exits on Harlem and Austin should be crosschecked in the head. |

So where do you think he's going?
Not going west. Not going south. Not going to Canada. Playoff team take a flier on him if he has to have his hips shaved if he has impingements? What term and AAV does he get? Think that quickly narrows down the field to a few teams if that....
NYI
NJD
BUF--More unlikely than CHI - SteveRain
We don't know any of this. It is assumed due to his family situation, but it is 100% his decision where to play. Considering the hip issue (or whatever it actually is) he may not have a ton of playing time left which could drastically alter his thought pattern.
It doesn't matter what I think. He's not coming back to the Hawks. That is typically where my interest in a player ends. If I was giving advice (which I stopped doing 8 minutes ago), I would say find a team with a decent chance to win, and a good center. He has rarely been paired with a really good center in his career, and I would guess that is toward the top of his wish list. But overall, he is looking to go to a contender. |

Cup final scheduled to begin Saturday June 3 with game 7 scheduled for June 18.
Draft is scheduled for June 28 and 29th. Expect the league wide trade action to occur in the 10+ days leading up to the draft. Free agency begins July 1. |

WE 100% know this because he only WOULD waive to go to the NYR. It's the worst kept secret about his dad and his unwillingness to fly and how important he is to be able to watch Kane play, to Kane himself. So yeah......unless he's buying John Madden's old bus, he 100% isn't going anywhere west of STL.
If he gets his hips shaved the clock starts ticking for a full hip replacement within 10 years if not sooner.
Agreed on the center...but I think a team like NJD who he just played against makes a lot of sense and skating with Hughes on a line.
I don't buy the Buffalo talk at all. If he wouldn't live their in the offseason...can't see him going there now.

I keep hearing this and don't understand the logic. While he may be a generational talent (whatever definition you use), he is still just one player. They still need to fully rebuild the entire team around him. Maybe one of the players drafted last year makes the leap to the NHL this year. They are destitute in the forward ranks in the NHL at the moment, and the D is at best a work in progress all while hoping that one of Soderblom, Commesso, or Stauber just grab the job and go.
McJesus has been in the league since 2015 and are just now (maybe past two years) looking solid. They've missed the playoffs in three of his eight seasons and didn't get past the first (or qualifying round in 2020) in two other seasons. That's along with having Draisaitl on the team.
Similar situation with MacKinnon. |

The Rangers are likely not resigning him either. He's obviously hurt and they don't have the room or money for him - especially considering the way they went out in round 1.
If none of the teams he wants to go to have interest or room to sign him, is he just going to quit? If COL, or SEA came calling, you don't think he would highly consider it? He said NYR because that is the only place he wanted to be traded to in season. The offseason with him as a pure free agent is a different animal.

100% no on Seattle.....and Colorado....would take some maneuvering.
Do you think if Brisson poked the Hawks and said Patrick would like to resign for 3 years and retire as a Hawks with an aav of 5-6 million Hawks wouldn't consider it?

I would be 99.99% comfortable saying they wouldn't consider it. I think the only way Toews and/or Kane come back is in some sort of FO or developmental position. If he is willing to do that for the Hawks, he would be willing to do that for a contender. He wants to win. He's said that multiple times. The Hawks won't be able to offer that likely before he retires.
KD didn't tear off the Toews and Kane band-aid, just to re-apply another one. Last year, he said they wanted/needed draft picks. He dumped anyone who wasn't nailed down and worth something to get them. Hagel, Dach, ADB. All good to great players that are young enough to be very relevant when the Hawks expected to be good. Poof, gone, not looking back. He has moved on from what was here and establishing his team. Kane is very obviously not part of that. In my mind that is a good thing. What is an injured or rehabbing Kane going to bring to this team? Let Bedard grow into being his own NHLer. I'm fine with having some veteran guys to help him grow, but I think guys like TJ are better suited to do so. Kane and Toews were allowed to grow into the players they became, not mimic anyone else. |

I think the tank must stop. When Edmonton was tanking to get high draft picks they built an awful culture where winning wasn’t the priority. As of this draft, winning should and must be the “One Goal”. The culture must be one of trying to win. |

Not sure why either but that's what I've heard over and over.
Maybe it's because his ELC is only 3 years and then the window starts to close once we owe him 12-15 mil per year? Some of what was said above about keeping him happy?

Definitely on this board and other boards. Seravelli mentioned it with that interview with Cohen that Darth? posted. There have been a few TSN blubs stating that too. |

After watching that rag tag group of misfits play a solid structured game last season, and never give up, I think the Hawks have that covered with their HC. Hell, they were still trying to win after the trade deadline last season. |

I agree 100%
And actually, the tank, as it were, consisted of trading those who brought something back and waiting for the end of the Toews and Kane contracts.
If they're aggressive but not stupid this off season, their point total next years starts going up again.
Let's light this candle, Blackhawks!! |

Agreed, LR had that team ready to play for all 82 - they never gave up on the season.
I don’t see Bedard fundamentally changing the timeline for the rebuild, what he does however, is greatly increase the chances of it being successful. |

I'm really interested to see how the team comes together and plays without 19 and 88. Once Kane left, I think we saw a different (better) version of Reichel. More assertive, and seemed to play a bit bigger. You will possibly have 2-3 new young defensemen playing as well. I would assume players will all be looking to carve out their role within the team and show well for a larger opportunity.
They obviously need to add some higher priced guys to get to the floor, but I think this year will be much more enjoyable to watch (and a bit more competitive). |
