Who would have thunk when the Hagel trade was made the 2023 TB 1st would be the 19th pick? I was figuring 29-32.
It's important for KD to cash in on it.

Interesting comment by KD on how the upper part of the draft is almost all centers, and you can’t have all the same type of player, as there is only one puck. Does KD think he has his 2 centers of the future in Bedard and Nazar, and will be looking at wings at #19? Or pluck a D man - LAHawk
I went back to that Score interview as I thought the KD comment on too many of the same players, one puck, but it wasn't in the interview.

So just how are the Oilers and Maple Leafs going to improve so that they advance farther in playoffs?
The answer may be better goaltending and better defense. Better defense means both blue line crew and in net. Both teams arguably were better thus season than the previous season; however, a better answer may be changing the coaching strategy of being so offensive first.
This may mean a GM or coaching change? Changing some personnel too?
Maybe others on this board can dive into this topic, I’ll just leave it at that |

Toronto needs to score more too, they scored 2 goals in each of their last 7 playoff games. |

I've been watching this kid for a few years.
I've never seen a better hockey player in all my life.
I had Pat Kane going not just 1st over all but playing in the NHL day one. His play making at the time was some of the best vision I had ever seen. The experts said he was three-four years from the NHL.
This kid is so good I'm thinking of becoming a Hawks fan--I'm a Blues fan.

No deal happening until Q knows Stanbo is taking over as the new Leafs GM. You know how much those guys love each other and the admiration Q has for Stan's player evaluation capabilities.
Excellent entertainment at the Scotiabank arena last night with a fitting and predictible ending for the loveable losers wearing the blue Maple Leaf. |

If you play juniors in Canada and you don't go pro they pay for your college education at a Canadian school. If your kid gets drafted by the London Knights, I think you have to let him chase his NHL dream. There is time to go to Western and get a degree. - stevefrmglencoe
I've been a part of this battle for over a decade and don't wanna rehash this topic but there are differences, huge ones between a scholarship to an NCAA school and having your education paid for by a CHL franchise/league to a Canadian university.
#1 a junior team, or league, is not paying for an NCAA education the NCAA school is. In Canada the CHL franchise/league pays for it. And the biggest difference is a kid has x amount of time to use his Canadian money for his schooling or he loses it. Around 5 yrs, and that's while he's still playing jrs or pro or the money expires. In the USA a kid is at the school and playing for them at the same time.
In other words a fraction of CHL players use the money allocated for schooling and it's designed that way. ...... The comparison is not close to being equal. |

Yep, and having Matthews score AT ALL would have been helpful too. No goals in the five-game series. |

Just popping in to snicker about the Leaves and mention a couple things I found interesting.
A. Matthews is going into the last year of his contract. Currently his full NMC doesn't kick in until the new NHL season starts( July 1?). Technically he is tradable to the Leaves for the next roughly 3 months. His agent set it up perfectly to pretty much screw over Toronto and Matthews gets to go where he wants for the price he wants.
While I'm pleased the Hawks have 6 picks in the top 55 this draft year, I did notice the Wings have 5 picks in the top 44 including 3 consecutive picks in round 2. KD and the Hawks may not be the only team active on draft day. |

Back to the Connor Garland discussion. Per Frank Seravalli....
Seravalli says that he’s been told that the Canucks have been calling around over the past few weeks to gauge the cost to move some of their contracts.
“The main focal point is that the Canucks are active on trying to move Conor Garland’s salary. You heard Brock Boeser say at the end of the season that he doesn’t really want to be traded. It’s still certainly possible that they find a new home for Boeser. And they always have a break glass in case of emergency play with J.T. Miller before his no-trade clause kicks in on July 1. Garland is someone they’ve really keyed in on with the term remaining on his deal he might provide some flexibility. So Garland is one name that they’ve been focusing on.”
The price is steep as they are hoping someone will take a contract that has more than one year and at almost $5 million a season (referring to Garland). |

Couldn't carry Seab's jock. - rpeters01
Many fans, especially those outside of Chicago, and some Hawk fans as well never realized what a stud Seabrook was. Size, clutch, character, cleared the front of the net, and his first pass was always on the money. There are other attributes as well. If Allan can be 2/3 of a Seab’s, I’ll take him. |
