So you’re blaming him for the Pens poopting the bed on the 3rd? Or did he actually say something like, The Pens should have this in the bag if they can play smart, and the Pens did the exact opposite of play smart? Pat yourself on the back also for being capable of constantly being on the couch? Funny statement there.

No. He didn't say anything like that at all, he was being a total f'n homer when the Pens would be in the lead, which you say he isn't at all. Thanks for proving that you're not actually watching and listening that much.

As we've discussed the games come on much later where I am. Im on the move every day my dude. Play hockey upwards of 5 times a week some weeks..run marathons. Like to kayak and go fishing too. Outdoor skate and snowboard in the winter. You constantly feel the need to beat your chest about being a man around here hahaha which reeks of insecurities of such.

I probably watch 65 full games, parts of 75 and missed the rest. Not exactly like I was all that absent. female doging about announcers is just pedestrian fandom. Who really gives a (frank) I can block out anything. However Errey doesn’t annoy me one bit. He’s truthful.

Hey man. You generally seem pretty cool, we would probably be friends. female doging about announcers just seems childish to me.

Wait. As long as you don’t park sideways on the boat ramp and take 20 minutes to unload a kayak we could be friends.

Is it any worse then the Penguins job where you can't possibly meet fan and ownership expectations and also have nothing to speak of to start a rebuild unless you're really excited about Owen Pickering? This next guy is screwed before he's hired.
- Tojo.

Much worse. The Pens at least still have the gate attractions in Crosby and Malkin. The GM jus have to make them remain competitive and, with a few tweaks, they're a bubble team for the next 1-2 years.

The Flyers, on the other hand, are basically buried with bad long-term deals and don't have the luxury of a Crosby or a Malkin to dangle in front of the fans. Also, knowing that you have only a 1/3 control of power that is being shared by John Tortarella...yeah, no thaks.

I think you underestimate how big of a deal getting a GM of any major sports team is to the people who want and hope to land these jobs. The Pens have a fairly storied franchise and some all time greats still on the roster. Also, being the GM of a smaller market team like Pittsburgh is like a walk in the park in terms of media and fan treatment than say somewhere like Toronto. Even the players talk about how laid back and out of the limelight it is playing in Pittsburgh. They can go to the mall, or grocery store, without being swarmed or hounded. Kyle Dubas probably can't even get a tank of gas at a station without being bothered and ridiculed.
- MattStrat

Wanting a GM job and thinking this is a good GM job are too different discussions. I don't think this is a good job right now (Philly may be worse). Once you look past the big 3 and Guentzel you don't have much at the NHL level or the system. Chances are you'll be a retread before you sniff competing for a championship in Pittsburgh.

It does, but only on Sundays through Thursdays. Fridays I obsess over how goals can be scored without being classified as a "scoring chance" and Saturdays are reserved for Maple Leafs voodoo rituals.

Meh, Pens fans are pretty tame and will accept just about anything, even if they are delusional. Ownership seems pretty absent and is probably more interested in the land/property development aspect, anyway. There are probably potential GMs out there who might like/prefer a clean slate to work with. Don't have to worry about a previous regime's prospects if most of them end up washing out. Hopefully ownership isn't delusional, also, and gives the new GM wide latitude to make some hard decisions and time to see the process play out.
- Hockey66

I don't agree about the Pens fans at all. Quite a few are ready to tear it down, and that's only going to get louder.

You're a Pens fan, correct?

I haven't really seen an abundance of all that much being accepted around here since 2018 haha. However, I will say most around here accept where the Pens are and that their true contender status window is closed and has been for some time.

Then there's the Pens social media pages....next to zero acceptance of anything to be found there in the comments hahah. So these delusional fans you speak of, they most be friends and family of yours?

- MattStrat

Yes.

Your first paragraph is contradictory. Sure, the fans don't "accept" bad moves by the GMs, but they still keep going to games and don't want any talk of potentially moving any of the big 3 or guys like Guentzel. Why? Because the fans are delusional enough to think that this team is just a goalie and a bottom six away from being true contenders. Never mind that the Pens have no cap space for a good bottom six, no good prospects to fill in for cheap, no good goalie options, question marks on defense, and about half the team either hitting the aging curve or are about to.

I doubt the Pens' brass look at or care what the unwashed masses are saying on social media and sites like this one. Just keep the band together and don't dare talk of making any significant changes.

Pens fans and media are about as tame as it gets. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the brief "Fire Hextall" chant was the most extreme form of protest the fans have ever made. They will mostly just cross their arms and grumble. Not exactly a torches and pitchforks crowd.

And by "quite a few are ready to tear it down," do you mean me and maybe some other random dude? Just do an experiment and go on the different fan sites / social media and suggest the Pens need to tear it down now. You will see your angry mob, not in agreement, but rather defending the status quo and keeping everyone of significance.

No, the Pens will continue down this "two road" approach and slowly bleed out over the next few years with one-trick pony Sullivan at the helm. There will be some milestones and sentimental moments but the wins will be harder to come by as players start to age out. There will then be some farewell tributes, jerseys retirement ceremonies, etc. and the fans will eat it up. Then the Pens will bottom out, except they won't have any additional draft picks or prospects to build from, so the rebuild will last about 5 years longer than it should had the Pens had a proactive ownership and management group.
