Dubas biggest flaw is the stat nerd idea that doesn’t value goaltending.

He got dummied in all his major contract negotiations as well.

They had the 7th best all situations SV% in the league this season. Samsonov had a 919 SV% and 2.33 GAA in 42 starts. Woll had a 933 SV% and 2.16 GAA in 7 starts....we could only dream of that with the Pens this past season. They would of been in the playoffs with that.

...Murray was 903 SV% and 3.01 GAA in 26 starts. That sounds more Penguin'ish hahah

That’s why I think he’d be better suited as a president of hockey ops. Stick to high level ideas and overall directions. Let a more savvy GM make the ground level moves and negotiations.

I can never figure out what these above the GM pres of hock ops are really doing hahaha. Like how much impact are they having on the roster?

Fans never have true insight into this since all FOs structure differently. I’m assuming a traditional structure that’s common in a lot of other leagues but that by no means has to be the case. Pretty much the answer is we don’t know.

And Samsonov couldn’t handle the playoffs in Washington which is why the didn’t QO him. They go cheap and hope to catch lightning in a bottle in net. It hasn’t worked.

Someone on Twitter claimed Frank Seravalli said that if Dubas leaves Toronto, his most likely destination would be Ottawa.

He reiterated that Sullivan is not going anywhere regardless of the new GM.

Yeah...I can get behind that response. His numbers were nowhere near as good/close to the regular season, these playoffs...and he kinda sh!t the bed for the Caps last season.

Woll had great numbers this post season and regular season, just too small of sample sizes to be saying anything for sure.

hahaha yeah its a strange one. I guess like you said its a bit different for each one and what they do. I guess maybe in a lot of cases the GM has to run a trade or signing by them first?....maybe haha

It's like a bad game of telephone.

But I bet Frank said it on his podcast today. I just havent had the chance to listen to it.

EDIT: Friedman saying Leafs ownership committed to bringing Dubas back. He expects Dubas to remain Leafs GM.

Yea he's really putting some cold water on this Dubas-Pittsburgh story. Saw he said he'd either be in Toronto or he'd take some time off. Said he wouldnt pop up somewhere else next week, which contradicts what Friedman said about Pittsburgh about how they want to wrap this process up quickly.

Seems to me both sides will be moving in a different direction. I think the most likely guy to join the organization in either capacity would be Treliving. The problem there is Calgary has said no one can interview him until after the draft.

If the Pens really feel like Treliving is their guy, I could see them just exchanging 1st round picks. Protects Calgary (Pens dont even have a 2nd) and if he is really the Pens guy, a small price to pay in the long run to move down 2 spots. Not saying we should but there is a way around that.
