I am curious to see how this all works out. I imagine if they draft well we will start seeing KD draft picks start to trickle into the NHL next season or the season after.
Right now the Bowman picks are beginning too emerge. As i said before with Bowman being so wrong on so many dmen maybe he actually had learned from his mistakes and we have a couple top 4 dmen.
I imagine the dream is to draft another core, and continually draft and develop prospects to fill in as role players.
I think about players like Danault, Hartman, Forsling and I'm sure there's others I'm forgetting but how useful they would of been later on for us.
The hardest part is as the core is aging replacing them, to be able to draft that well that when they reach that 7th 8th year of their contract you have a player good enough to fill their shoes.
Just curious has a NHL team ever been this aggressive in a rebuild? I really can't think of one.
Next 3 years
6 first round picks
8 second round picks
5 third round picks

Will be the best prospect pool in the NHL. Now Sabers did something similar and AZ. However, Bedard is a game changer if to rise to generational good.

Eddie kind of going off on the Hurricanes about not bringing anyone in who can score. If you can't score you can't win that's just a fact, hahaha. - BetweenTheDots
Interesting that the guy everyone said that the Canes should have picked up (and that they were rumored to have interest in) put up a whopping 2 goals and 2 assists in 11 games in the playoffs.
Who else was available that would have given them any scoring? Not to mention, the Panthers contained the scoring of Boston (#2 in goals this year), and Toronto with all their firepower (#9 in goals this year).

The Blackhawks were in the Stanley Cup finals five times between 1961 and 2010. No, they didn't win but it is not like the team was crap between those years. In 1992, they lost each game by one goal.

Also Pacioretty was supposed to be a contributor offensively this year. |

Its all true, but what Eddie says is true as well.
I will say the defense is pretty good in front of Bob, but Bob has been blessed with the golden touch in these playoffs. Shots off the post and out, shots off his body off the post and out, rare rebound chances and i think he's stopped every 2 on 1, or breakaway chance these playoffs.
Oh and there is the completely out of position and I'll just stick my arm out saves. |

How exactly does that track? So the guy that people said the Canes should have traded for in fact did not improve scoring, Bob is having a stellar playoffs in both performance and luck, and yet they still should have traded for him? What reasoning makes this idea make sense? |

Any thoughts on whether or not they are changing it to avoid the complete and utter media extravaganza that would be Bedards first camp? |

I wonder if that is because the fan base (and newbie fans) couldn't fit in anyplace but the UC.
Seems like a good idea to check what these kids are doing (so it is helping) on drylands, I see nothing wrong with a change.

No one knew Bob was going to have a stellar playoffs. Carolina didn't even make an effort to bring in ANY secondary scoring. I guess its easy to look at it now and say they made the right decision, but then again do those OT games end differently because they did bring in someone? Possibly? So because Meier didn't do well with NJ means he would of faired the same in Carolina? I thought it was the wrong decision for that franchise all along, and now they are down 3-0 because they don't have any secondary scoring, surprise surprise surprise |

I woke up, got outta bed, and was in a good mood until I saw the two draft genisuses at the Athletic decide to compose a Blackhawk draft yield of basically nothing falling their Blackhawks way after pick #1 (Yeah, poor poor 'hawks...)
I guess I understand the strategy of taking Daniil But at #19.
you get a different starting date on his deal and second deal.
And you all Pronman always knocking guys are their skating (and I know Wheeler chose But) no one has brought up his upright skating style...I have seen on more than one occasion how smaller players can throw Daniil But off his path while in stride, because he isn't strong on his pins. Granted, he is pretty fast and he wants to be the guy letting loose of his big time shot. And the kid is far from a finished product.
But he really is more Daze than Secord in terms of aggression cioppiness and use of that size.
Furthermore, they tailored their board to where all the slip throughs I had coming the Chicago way, are GONE before #35.
Maybe this is reality check that signaled my brain that I am still a homer at heart.
They show 4 defenders off the board before the hawks pick at #19. (Wasn't that the chubby JD was looking for? You think it was a Rookie-related one? I do not.)
I look at the choices for teams at #11 through 15 at forward and want up, b/c Wheeler and Pronman are frightening me.
It is SO funny, many of you want the Hawks to try and get in the Michkov fall zone are of picks but now I am backing off from a giant But at #19.
I am just thinking of what my eyers saw in RW Matthew Wood, C David Edstrom, Eduard Sale, Otto Stenberg, Callum Ritchie....I just am thrown off by the only scrap left at #35 is Bradley Nadeau, who I mentioned before HAS to play top six or he is a determent as a bottom 6 "defender."
These two gamokes have managed to scoop up every guy I like at #35...
and I mean no disrespect at #44 for the prospect or family of Kalan Lind. I actually sat very near his brother and family when his brother was taken in the Chicago UC draft, but I have flipped and flopped on Kalan Lind. He is a guy I like parts of but in general, he isn't what helps me fill out my Hake pro line-up. he is very thin, and does see Power play time but he aggressive as a forechecker, but he has large deficits in his stride and skating in general. And he is quite nasty, not always within the necessary retaliation situation. I try and evaluate and stress the positives, but on him I am 50/50.
And it is a bother when I see the draft boys at Athletic have the Dead wings adding Anton Wahlberg and Theo Lindstein right before.
Ok, trade all the 2nd rounders for a higher than #19, lol!
To make myself "whole" again I just look at Craig Button's list:

another Saskie i wouldn't mind see the hawks grab is Reily Heidt. very much my kind of player. Same kind of growth progressively getting better each year. Ideally we trade up and grab Brayden Yager. that would make me a happy hawks fan! |

There has been much conjecture on this board whom KD will select with any of the draft choices after Bedard
The odds are an attractive looking scouting report for several forwards is going to be the most likely pick Going forward though KD will have decided before that pick - or any selections after Bedard - just how he aims to get at least the initial piece(s) to play on Bedard’s line
Who plays with Bedard is interesting because if we draft another forward, we don’t expect two rookies starting on the same line come opening night
While I would love to grab another top six caliber forward after Bedard, I suggest grabbing either a goaltender or dman would be perilously not available if KD trades the first of our second round picks.
We will get good players in the draft, but just who you want may not be available
Day two of the draft is Saturday so we wait not just Friday but through Saturday proceedings to learn how KD navigates
Another subject is the goaltender prospects. Is Soferstrom going to be ready next season? He plays too deep in the net? Comesso needs at least one season AHL especially if he shares net. Maybe the other kid is here although he doesn’t develop well or on fast track if he is part of goaltending troika in Rockford |

Eddie O's comment was made in the context of a game/series that is going on. CAR didn't seem to have a problem with secondary scoring in the first two rounds. In fact their goal production is actually nicely spread out. FLA made zero trades at the deadline, have three more goals than CAR in with one extra game played.
It doesn't matter if no one knew Bob was going to have a stellar playoffs. The fact that he is would theoretically negate any additional scoring that CAR would have added. He did the same against the most offensively stacked team in the league in round one.
My point in singling out Meier was not to say he wouldn't/couldn't do better with CAR. It was to say that you can add all you want, it is far from guaranteed that they help anything. Who were the biggest trade acquisitions? Meier, Kane, Tarasenko, Horvat, and O'Reilly? O'Reilly was the best, with Kane second, everyone else pretty much was extremely underwhelming, and none are still playing.
Not to mention, Svechnikov was injured about a week or two after the trade deadline. |

I think a solid under-the-radar FA signing to pair with Bedard would be Max Pacioretty. Give him a 1-year $5mil deal to raise his stock come TDL to flip for a 1st + change.
The likelyhood of Domi coming back to us is a foregone conclusion at this point. He would have been ideal as some sandpaper for Bedard who gets in the dirty areas but there are other options as trade bait and FA's that could fit that role. Possibly Bertuzzi?
Regardless, I think you'll see more of the same this off-season, buy-low middle-6 FA wingers (Drouin, AA), bodyguards for Bedard (Ryan Reaves or re-sign Khaira), cap dump trades (Murray, Bailey, Myers, etc.), and a veteran 1LW/RW to pair with Bedard, which where Bertuzzi and Patches come in. |

Nothing is guaranteed Chunk, except Carolina basically has one scoring line.
Seems to me the biggest get, pay off in these playoffs is when Tkachuk decided he wanted to go to Florida, and they barely made the playoffs.

Right, so CAR made a judgement call on the value of the available players compared to what was available on their roster at the time and didn't want to mortgage the continued success of the team (in the form of first round picks) for a "maybe". I'm actually hoping this is how KD runs the ship.
Tkachuk is a damn monster. FLA has to be thanking their lucky stars that he wanted out of CGY so bad. |

They said that their prospects were interrupting their strength training to skate a lot prior to development camp then needed a couple of weeks to recover after. Hawks would prefer the players focus the early summer months fully to strength training.
Sucks for the fans that watched development camp year after year. The development camps in the early 2000s in Bensenville were incredibly revealing of the team's evolution. Summer of 02 Buff, Keith and Seabrook were there as I recall and impressed. Summer of 04 was the masssive turning point. The intensity of that camp was higher than all the camps prior. Yawney ran the on ice by himself and he could stop fights mid punch by just blowing his whistle. Management was there roaming around. Back then they would talk.

Being someone who went through 1 achilles heel replacement, and Pacioretty lasting less than one game on his first surgery before injuring it again and having a second, I highly doubt he will be ready again to start the season, if he is abl to come back and play NHL hockey again.
