3 zip Vegas 7 minutes into the 1st. Oettinger pulled.
So much for my thoughts about Dallas making a series of it. |

I feel for the poor fan who ponied up for playoff tickets, bought a couple of overpriced beers, sat down in their seat, and then the game is over before the middle of the first period. |

If you follow the current rankings, seems to me you're going to get a good player at #19, not so sure I'd be parting ways with and 2's.
I know i'm preaching, but let the draft fall to you;

I hear you, but it may come down to who's still available at 11 or say 14. These are VAN and PIT picks, neither of which have a 2nd and may be interested in getting one. If there's someone they rate much higher there than who would be available at 19, might be a trade. |

If you were either of those teams, would you trade out of the top 15? |

If they rate 5 to 8 players the same and likely get any one of them at 19 and get a 2nd rounder to boot, why not? Or in the Canucks situation, maybe they'll feel they are up against the wall in moving a salary and blink and take an offer for the 11th. |

Probably not, but may be forced to due to cap issues. |

Frank Seravalli (with help) created a list of expected contracts for the upcoming batch of UFAs (top 50). This was done last year too, they were accurate within $348,000 and 0.61 years.
https://www.dailyfaceoff....-among-top-50-free-agents
Some interesting situation include:
JT Compher 5 years x $5.3 million
Ryan Killorn 4 x $5.25 million
Patrick Kane 3 x $5.75 million
Ryan O'Reilly 3 x $5.5 million
Jordan Staal 2 x $3.2 million
Max Domi 5 x $4.75 million - DarthKane

In the past 2 drafts there were one-time top-5 candidates dropped significantly. Last year it was Lambert, before that it was Raty.
Who will slide in this year’s draft? My guess….Eduard Sale.

I see the reasoning behind a move up, but
I am not giving uo #19 AND #35 to help Vancouver with a salary dump(s).
I would rather pick at #35 and #19 that surrender them one pick and Vancouver Cap Relief.

OK, if that's true, Hawks wouldn't be gaining much value, so why give up a 2nd? |

Let me elaborate, 2 points;
1.) I guess if a Benson or Mitchov fell to 11, and I could give up the last of the 4 2's, then I'd consider it. (Though I'd assume they wouldn't trade out if one of those fell)
I guess I struggle to understand why Hawks wouldn't want all 4 2nds in a draft like this, with a gaping hole in F's in the pipeline.
Just sounds illogical to me.
Now if you want to give Washington something for Wilson and put him on Bedard's wing for a couple years, then I'll listen.
2.) I get that Vancouver probably needs to dump salary, if I'm stepping in and doing that for them, I sure as hell ain't going to add one of my 2's in this draft for that
That really sounds illogical to me.

I agree, patience, don't fall in love with a guy, we already get to draft the best player in the draft(s).
I do wonder instead of trading up into the 11th spot, they try to sneak back into the 20 something pick area.

11 picks last year 9F, 2D
11 picks this year
9 the next two.
There isn't enough room for all of the players if you use all of the picks. Also, it is easier to use picks as currency than players.
Not to mention, the fact that they are getting Bedard reduces the concern about finding an impact player in this draft which in turn would reduce the feeling that you need as many kicks at the can as possible to make sure you get an impact player.
|
|
|
|
I didn’t know every pick turns into an NHL player.
Take as many shots as you can. If a favorable trade presents itself to move up for a higher tier of player or acquire a young quality prospect/player then sure. Otherwise use the picks. |

I'm OK with moving some picks, future ones as well.
Just saying that you have 6 picks in the first two rounds of probably the deepest draft of the last 10 years, make the picks, build the pipeline.
Also, I get everyone won't make it, but maybe that extra guy you take is the young guy required to get the next Hossa when the team is ready for it |

Ahoy ahoy Wiz!
Quick question about Honzek. Your summary about him says he is agile, yet has a clunky skating style. Not sure how those 2 go together
Would he fall under the Doneghey group to avoid(if you can't skate you won't be a Blackhawk)? - captainserious
This is another prospect, at this point looking at all these other draftniks boards, I am not sure where his name gets called.
Skates upright.
He is already moving co-ordinated and his first step keeps improving.
He really has good wherewithal to getting pucks to the correct teammate and he is probably taller than I have him with long legs so he gets loose when he is carrying.
Just don't expect a edgy wing at this juncture.

I don't think drafting 6 prospects in the first 2 rounds of this draft is bad thing. Although I wouldn't expect all 6 to play for the Hawks at any point. If 3 became significant contributors the draft (overall) will be a success.
Having this many draft picks allows the Hawks to address specific position needs if they want. I know the standard thought process is to "draft the best prospect available". But by the 2nd round there's not much difference in many of the prospects so I can see KD looking to address specific needs. |

I am not so sure big San Honzek is considered slow; his stop/starts are improved. The think is, I have no idea where ehe gets picked.
I still have the JD what to do with all the picks, ("We won't be using all of them.") blabbed stuck in my craw.
I realized he just won the lottery and had to make sure he concisely articulated the Kyle Beach / new front office = safety and change, and maybe he was just excited and talking away.
And maybe taking on MORE cap hits from other termed eats away at the 50 player list, but there is far too much more of teh same at forward in the system and too may kids who in a year or to are bigger, better and quicker with sticks and blades.
Seattle brings up an unsigned-undrafted OHL wing ,Tye Kartye, undrafted and stays with the son Greyhounds until he explodes for a 45 goal 79 point season.
he is 6' 1" almost 200 lbs. underrated then signed by Seattle and gets called up at 22 years of age.
I think you can look at the crop and find lots you like about the ones you pick and pick all of them. |
