Woah. Chris Johnson reporting that Shanny called each of the Core 4 to tell them about Dubas and they all came away with impression that they’re not being moved. This is getting weirder by the day. Either let them think they’re being lied to or tie the hands of a new GM
https://twitter.com/b1rky...&t=zXygQ9RZlVYvHUlIXsYVmg - Canada Cup
The problem with media is that the reporting is limited to the thoughtfulness of the reporter. Dab in some heavy need to sell ads and be dramatic and you get stuff like that.
The truth is that Shanny called them all and of course assured them this didn't impact how the org believed in them. What else is he going to say?
Hang tight Matty we'll figure out if we want you in a few weeks? |

No veteran GM worth hiring would want to sign with the Leafs only to have his every potential moves being questioned by Shannyplan, who has never done anything as a coach or GM. - islansjet
Like Lou, possibly the most proud Manager in the history of the multiverse? Ya, he hated working for that big mean scary MLSE board.
Lou: "What I can say is that Brendan gave me complete autonomy to do what was necessary to have success. I didn’t have to worry about anything that I needed to do. Every resource was given to me by ownership."
This entire 'control' narrative is nonsense. Dubas had less autonomy because he had no experience.
Greater experience = greater autonomy. It's almost like the entire corp mngmnt world works that way.
Except the Dallas Cowboys cuz Jerry Jones is nuts. |

My question is what has Shanahan done to warrant being the micromanager. Didn't he come here from DOPS?
He literally has less experience has a GM than Dubas, why is he the one deciding what a GM should do. |

I'm not defending shanny's work. But realistically the President's job is to build the management team and to hold them accountable. They're usually only 'hands on' with financials, hires/fires, and maybe the odd big move.
We may never know how influential Shanny (or whichever higher ups were involved) were this past year but we know they operated like any other organization previously. Who knows why the felt the need to control his moves. I mean, for me personally, I liked the moves they made this year better than years past. I'm not sure that was the result of Shanny's influence or not though. |

I’m less interested in his exact words and more interested in what they took away from it. I think it’s somewhat problematic if they believe he assured them that they’re all back.
In the end though it’ll come down to the actual moves the new guy makes. If Marner or Willie brings back a haul that significantly improves the team: no harm, no foul. If they’re moved and it looks bad, the notion that they (Matthews really) were lied to makes it worse. |

At least Chevy will never have to worry about his trading being blocked. |

I'm extremely doubtful that CJ had 1on1's with the big4. They don't talk to CJ. And I doubt their agent(s) do either.
It's a game of somebody said somebody said and he's putting his spin on it. Sports journalism is what it is. |

Yeah would be a great trade. However I see a few problems. I will only list a couple.
1st Holl is a FA.
2nd any GM that asked for this trade would quickly lose all credebility in the League.

Huberdeau: full NMC for 6 years.
Tavares: full NMC for 2 years.
Semantics. I'm positive Calgary would be interested in saving the 100 thousand from Elias Lindholm to Matt Murray enough to make the impossible possible. |
