Well only 1 team wins the cup every year, so 31 teams fall short each and every season.

Watching them play, it doesn't seem like the message is getting stale or anything like that.

I think we'll see some roster changes this year and they have roughly $25M to fill 6 spots.

That was what I was alluding to a bit there with Rod's interview that he is very loyal to his players and the players that got them to that point. They had like 14m in cap space at the tdl to replace the scoring that they were going to lose and added another defender and a guy who can't score.

Maybe they didn't want to pay the price of elite top tier talent but I'm sure there would have been a price to pay for someone who is better than what they got.

Van had some good scoring depth for probably pretty good prices at the tdl alone.

I haven't read much criticism of Rod's system because the regular season results are there.

I'm not saying Team Canada but you look at Edmonton, NYR, Vancouver with Bruce playing all offence. They went through coaches because those coaches couldn't get the teams further, so why does Rod get a pass after many years after great regular season and what could look like a real lack of playoff success?

What specific changes should CAR be pursuing? They lack a superstar forward that most SC winners have and play a style that fits with their roster. Washington brought in Hunter during Ovechkin's prime and they changed their style to be more defensive. They went backwards. Pittsburgh did the same with Johnston during Crosby's prime and they went backwards. A good coaching staff has a style that fits the roster.

Which is why CAR is always linked to VAN somehow.

Miller to Carolina.
They will need a PR splash after getting swept.

They don't like rentals, prefer players with term. JTM is all of that!

Washington went backwards then won a stanley cup. Pittsburgh also went backwards then won 2 stanley cups.

Carolina needs more offensive players and a lot of their offensive players that are actually good offensive players seem to not have enough freedom to create it.

Carolina has had a revolving door of 30 point players playing with top lines over the years. How would Garland have the 4th highest PPG on one of the best teams in the league.

Garland, Boeser aren't tough forechecking wingers, the style that has to be played under Rod.

Florida did outplay Boston in a few games and held their own it others. The Bob show really began in round 2.

I think it started with that game 5 breakaway stop on Marchand (Suck it Reuby). Either way, it's been spectacular. He's definitely the MVP of the playoffs so far in my books.

Let's mock up something then.

Carolina 1st, Ryan Suzuki, Jack Drury, Scott Morrow.?

Two low potential bottom 6 centers, a top 4 potential RHD with size and a late 1st?

Am I not somewhat positive towards this team? Can I get some recognition for at least trying to be supportive of some of the things the team does?

They went backwards under Hunter and Johnston because those two failed at their jobs to maximize their respective rosters and the next coaches didn't. Neither did anything positive for their orgs. Particularly Johnston.
I agree CAR should be adding more skilled forwards to their lineup, but only players that can fit with a strong defensive structure. So no Kane, Tarasenko, Boeser, Domi, etc. Garland I actually think might do well there.

Does it make it harder for you to cry about the team or are you just being a hypocrite?

I'm not arguing that there is a wrong or right way here but I don't see them not winning with Hunter and Johnston as backwards per se. The results yes but I think each coach is a bit different and they bring different ideas and such. I believe players learn and take things from each different coach they have, they might have learned a thing or two during the process that when the next coach came in they had something a little more to give than the previous coaches.

Garland probably won't move the needle all that much.

I could see them going after Kane, any contending team should. Meier would be a good fit. Svechnikov out is their biggest issue atm, just not the same offence without him imo.

I do think Meier fits well. Just figured NJD will lock him up long term or they wouldn't have traded for him in the first place. Most teams would not advance this far without their best goal scorer. Even worse for a limited offensive skill team like Carolina.
