I said it before and I'll say it again. The leafs put more effort on team defense, got more physical, got slower to get more "intangibles" and something has to give for those. Scoring and speed usually. Which was the case. Ran into a Conn Smythe Bobrovsky.

Fun fact: Panthers have won 11 games and in 10 of them only have 1 goal games. They aren't winning by outscoring by any means so clearly it can be successful. Literally 45 seconds and they are golfing after the first round. Playoffs be crazy.

oh yeah I dont see the panthers as some well oiled machine mowing other teams down. Bob is saving the day for them.

but im only concerned about the leafs. havent watched any hockey since they were eliminated

You don't need to watch to really know what's going on.

The funny thing is, with Bob doing so well, top end goalies, or percieved top end, just became worth way more to trade for. Wouldn't be surprised should a Hart, Helle, Saros and my hot take, Sorokin, being moved.

I personally think it's a soup de jour thing and an adequate goalie is all you need. As Monkey said, it's a generational performance.

Same but I honestly don't think he wanted to be here after his injuries were somewhat questioned publically by the team & when he was ready to play come playoffs he didn't' see any ice.

Yeah, I think a lot of Freddy's problem is for sure in his head.

Even when he's healed, his brain hasn't accepted it yet.

its not that they needed more offence from the defense, its that the D needed to be able to help the forwards more...and that translates to more scoring.

its no secret the leafs...had issues scoring..again

- senstroll

Benching the D-man that led your team in goals for the season and makes a great outlet pass and also skates the puck better than everyone not named Rielly, just to play (frank)ing Holl, sure as poop doesn't help that.

Be fine if he's not a Leaf and staying in the west but if he's goes to Montreal then the Leafs have to deal with his ass multiple times a year.

I would take PLD on this team in a heart beat. Perfect type of player that we're missing. He's Thachuk Lite....and not too lite at that.

If you can get a PLD you take him all day long.

Better for the playoffs than sweety boy Mitchy. IMHO.

I would not, so we'll have to agree to disagree.

Erik Karlsson has had like 2 seasons where he looked like the Paul Coffee on steroids. Several where he was Phil Housley+. He's also had years where he looked like a hampered Mike Green. I'm not sure he would be the solution to this teams problems, but we cry so much about defense all the time and forget that in the PLAYOFFS the Leafs can't score. In his current form, he would, at the very least, help with that.

You can say that but the stat say otherwise. He's literally ahead on advanced stats by a large margin in the past 15 years.

That's true. However, he isn't the only guy who can do that.

If you want to spend 7 million a year on another defenseman go see if Klingberg wants a short term deal.

rielly is not good defensively either, but he was able to step it up and was a difference maker. having a second one of those might help.

also. RHD.

also...what do the leafs have to lose at this point. everything else is not working

Benn says he only cross checked Stone in the neck to find a "landing spot."

Much like Eddard Stark found a "landing spot" for Ice.

McCabe and Brodie, Gio and Holl ...both pairings clocking 40+ minutes per game and you get almost no offense. Both pairing got hemmed in too often because none of them are even average with the puck on their sticks. Rielly was the only guy ...then Lilly was ok when he got in.

McCabe and Brodie can both be good (I think) but they both need to play with a puck mover.

Rielly-Schenn
Brodie-NewGuy
McCabe-Lilly

Doesn't have to be Karlson but a Severson or Orlov type might work.

That'll help the offense but also ...I agree. Need to alter the mix in our top6. Need add some playoff type scoring. Get to the net and play through the playoff rule changes.

the NHL is hilarious.
Calgary interviewed a bunch of people for GM, but somehow the best for the job was a former Flame who played 500 games for them.

oh and dave nonis

The leafs are said to be targeting the guy who Calgary didnt want anymore...like a few weeks ago

Murray Edwards choose Sutter over Treliving because Edwards and Sutter are the same person.

As it stands right now, Leafs got 6 D under contract. Rielly, Liljegren, McCabe, Brodie, Gio, and Timmins. I'm hoping they re-sign Schenn. And that makes it 7.

Is the hope then that Gio retires or Brodie gets traded? So a new guy coming in?

Rielly - Schenn (Liljegren here if/when Schenn gets a game off)
McCabe - Liljegren
Brodie/New guy? - Timmins
Gio?

Again, we can agree to ......GFY GG!

Jokes aside, I will never agree with NOT getting a gritty, hard-nosed C who can play wing. There's just too many soft, gentlemen on this team.

Dozz has it right, too much of the same and it's clearly not working. PLD is talented AF and could be great as a 2nd C or top LW. I sure as poop wouldn't say no especially if there's a sniff that Matty doesn't want to stay long term.

If they had to trade Matthews and got a huge return then added PLD. Tough to say no to that IMO.
