I will forever have my mind boggled by Dubas deciding to protect Holl and not McCann.

Granted, I don't think McCann necessarily is a 40 goal guy on TML, but Dubas felt Holl was too valuable to lose in the expansion draft.

- mjones242

It's absolutely (frank)ing ridiculous, and there's no hindsight needed on it.

Like, you can straight up ignore the season that McCann just had, and it's still unbelievably dumb.

You'd have to be all world stupid to think that.

Gotta fire Keefe. He's been out coached at every turn. poop I could coach this Leafs team to 110pt regular season. Anyone could, auto pilot that poop.

If he can't get his players to put their balls on the line in the playoffs after 7 years of exits then he sucks at his job or the Core 4 is rotten.

It's only one of two things and I think both should be addressed. At least one of the core 4 and the Coach.

poop Shanahan should be shown the door too...hiding in the shadows all this time and pointing fingers. (frank) him too.

Add Sparks v McEinney to that list too.

(Don't care that Sparks was the winner in the A and younger so "he had to" ...BS...keep the better goalie. Always.)

- underhill14

I disagree with that.

Sparks was the obvious, and correct, guy to keep. Even though it didn't at all work out.

McBackup was an old as (frank) career backup that up to one save for the Leafs in the last game of the season, did nothing in his career.

Malgin v Marchment was a massive headscratcher too. In fact, that trade in partcular is a microcosm of Dubas's tenure: skill/posession v size/grit all day.

Don't get me wrong, I think he got a LOT right (Muzzin, Campbell at the time, etc.) but his misses were really perplexing.

Granted, no GM has a perfect track record and I feel like a lot of deals and player development are pure voodoo and alchemy but I really feel it was time to move on.

A 1st and 2 2nds for Hamilton is not a "fleecing". Bruins could have drafted Barzal, Connor, Chabot, or Ek but instead took Senyshyn with that #15 pick. Whoops on the Bs.

Also, you seem to have forgotten that future Norris Trophy winner Adam Fox was sent the other way in the Hamilton deal.

- mjones242

Fox refused to sign in Calgary. They were going to lose him anyway, it was NYR or nowhere for him and he got what he wanted.

It was a 15th overall draft pick and 2 seconds for a top D in the NHL.

Point is those were both great trades for Calgary.

I don’t think there is a “guru” GM available. I think it’s pretty simple and the pressure on Dubas to trade a core 4 player was too much. Bring in a guy that can make the best decisions for the team going forward.

Treliving, Pirdham, Tulsky, Armstrong.

Probably will be one of those guys, and I’m fine with either. If I could simulate a few years with all of them and choose then, I would.

Come on man, I posted it that instead of going off on how overblown and ridiculous these takes on it are.
Apparently not one Leaf player saw it as many of you do, didn’t do anything that game, except tell the press they found it objectionable afterwards. Didn’t do anything about it the next game, either. Maybe they saw the replays and see Hockey happening, idk. They all shook his hand after the series and wished him luck. Not even a word said about the power bomb choke slam gratuitous attack on the wunderkind.

The fact, is you posted a GIF making light of Sam Bennett after he gave Knies a concussion on a dirty as (frank) play. You can spin it anyway you like but that’s what the facts are since your so interested in them.

And last night you were whining when someone dared to question the super clean Panthers and a high stick with a minute left in a one nothing game.

Maybe, if you wanna be that guy you should go do it in the Panthers thread

Yeah, they shook hands some everything’s cool 🙄 whatever dude.

Get over yourself and you’re dirty as (frank) team I can’t wait to watch somebody run Bob, and hear you whine and female dog about it but as long as they shake hands, it’s all good, right?

Go (frank) off and troll elsewhere.

Or even to just run Bobrovsky.. I expected a bigger pushback for the Knies bodyslam but nothing happened.

Agreed. One of my problems with Kyle is that he was too loyal to some of his players, and generally inflexible. His tone on his core four - "we can, and we will" set the table. His players knew Kyle was not going to play hardball, that he would do everything for these guys. The Matthews contract, which we are now dealing with the end of, was ultimately one of the worst negotiated contracts in NHL history. Unprecedented parameters in that deal.

I would love to see this board if the leafs made a trade like the Flames and missed the playoffs.

It only looks bad because McSavey did well in Tampa and Sparks did nothing in Toronto. If it were reversed you'd not consider it a bad move. Hindsight is 20/20.

Can't ignore how well Sparks was playing in the minors

I think major moves need to be approved by higher ups and ownership no matter who the GM is. Especially if long term, big money contracts are coming in.

I think it would be very rare indeed for a GM to have full 100% autonomy.

- Leaffrog

Yup. Nothing unusual about that.

Depending on how much SJ would be willing to retain I would be interested in EK65.

I also like Sturm and Lorentz on SJ.

McCann was shanahan. There was a video of them in a war room and shanahan layed out that exact scenario where they could keep holl and kerfoot by exposing McCann.
