UFA- Graves, Mayfield, Schenn, Soucy, Barbashev

Cheap backup- Hill etc

Trade Marner for picks/prospects

- mr.sir

Blueprint for success is as follows, armchair GM mode:

Shanahan: Fired

President: George McPhee
GM: Dale Tallon
Head coach: Joel Quenneville

Tavares: Ask to waive NMC. Trade to BUF for Casey Mittelstadt.
Nylander: Trade with whatever else to WPG for Hellebuyck and Dubois.
Murray: Trade to WPG or somewhere else. Buy-out if you have to.
Jarnkrok: Trade to WPG

Brodie: Trade for picks and/or prospects
McCabe: Trade for picks and/or prospects

O'Reilly: Keep @ 3 <--- Hometown discount
Acciari: Keep @ 2
Matthews: Extend @ 12.5 AAV. New Captain.
Dubois: Extend @ 7.5 AAV
Hellebuyck: Extend @ 8 AAV

Domi: Sign @ 3.5 <--- Hometown discount
Donato: Sign @ 2.5
Perry: Sign @ 1.5 <--- Hometown discount
Monahan: Sign @ 1 <--- Hometown discount

Schenn: Keep @ 1.5 <--- Hometown discount

Dumoulin: Sign @ 4.5 <--- 6'4" 207
Mayfield: Sign @ 5.5 <--- 6'5" 220
Gavrikov: Sign @ 5.5 <--- 6'3" 220

Domi / Matthews / Marner
Mittelstadt / Dubois / Monahan
Knies / O'Reilly / Perry
Donato / Lafferty / Acciari
Robertson

Rielly / Mayfield
Gavrikov / Schenn
Dumoulin / Liljegren
Giordano

Hellebuyck
Woll

Assuming cap is between 84-85 million. Cap hit 81.5. Cap space 3.45.

You keep your #1 goal scorer. You keep your #1 point producer.

You add better coaching, better cycle, better grit, better character, better defense, better PK, better goaltending.

That's how you contend and with a bit of luck, win Cups.

Oh man. Karlsson is swinging for the fences. I like to see it from you Santo! Would be just a *bit *of a blockbuster.
- fifty__missions

Its a blockbuster but its not a massive trade.

Its more on SJ's end, they have to retain at least 3-5M for any contending team to be interested.

If they are willing to do 4M I'd send them some nice assets.

Then you can trade Brodie to a contender for a 2nd and whatever.

A scenario I'd be interested in.

McCann was shanahan. There was a video of them in a war room and shanahan layed out that exact scenario where they could keep holl and kerfoot by exposing McCann.
- bryant

I hate to do this to a man who's wife makes the best sandwiches but the video (produced by the Leafs) just has a shot of Shanny summarizing the plan for the videographers. It doesn't show who came up with the plan. All we really know is that they wanted to protect 4 D men (4F, 4D, 1G) as opposed to (7F, 3D, 1G). They knew if they did they'd lose Kerfoot. So they were offered McCann on the cheap and decided to do it so that Seattle would get one of Kerf/McC and they'd get to keep the one they didn't take.

Should have kept both and let Holl go but at the time he was going pretty good with Muzzin.

I'm sure that Dubas had his hands all over that situation. In fact in the video he's the one on the phone working the room. Shanny's just summarizing for the camaras.

A 1st and 2 2nds for Hamilton is not a "fleecing". Bruins could have drafted Barzal, Connor, Chabot, or Ek but instead took Senyshyn with that #15 pick. Whoops on the Bs.

Also, you seem to have forgotten that future Norris Trophy winner Adam Fox was sent the other way in the Hamilton deal.

- mjones242

The 1st and 2 2nds was at the draft table, so in their assessment Dougie Hamilton was worth more than a #15 pick, #45 and #52 pick. Given that they _knew_ where they were in the draft sequence (unlike the infamous Burke deal for Kessel), it's a solid deal.

The trade which got them Hanifin and Lindholm did include Fox, but he had already let them know that he was not going to sign with them - or Carolina for that matter. He was included so Carolina could trade him to the Rangers and get some additional asset capital in return. It didn't stop them from trying though - and the finally flipping him for 2 2nds. Carolina is very well run team, but that trade worked well for both teams.

The problem I had with the Hamilton deal was that it was only for 3 years of his service - but let's face it, Trelivnig - who isn't my favourite - isn't afraid to make bold moves.

The fact, is you posted a GIF making light of Sam Bennett after he gave Knies a concussion on a dirty as (frank) play. You can spin it anyway you like but that’s what the facts are since your so interested in them.

And last night you were whining when someone dared to question the super clean Panthers and a high stick with a minute left in a one nothing game.

Maybe, if you wanna be that guy you should go do it in the Panthers thread

Yeah, they shook hands some everything’s cool 🙄 whatever dude.

Get over yourself and you’re dirty as (frank) team I can’t wait to watch somebody run Bob, and hear you whine and female dog about it but as long as they shake hands, it’s all good, right?

Go (frank) off and troll elsewhere.

Interesting.

I have to disagree, by the tone of the voice and how it’s being told leads me to believe it’s shanahan. He’s not asking it in a question form but more of a this is what I’m thinking we should do. More definitive than questioning Dubas on it.

And yes she makes badass sandwiches. Unfortunately she’s got a full time job now with the government and I’m out here fending for myself. Making dinner for the kids and cleaning up. I’m turning into a stay at home dad and I can’t cook worth poop. I completely botched dinner tonight lol

You mean the trade that everyone loved for Calgary last year? The one that everyone thought Treliving did a smooth move and pretty much "got one over" on Florida? That trade?

How did Treliving know Hubie would be a subpar version of himself and Markstrom would suck balls?

1. A mid-1st and 2 2nds is a solid deal for both sides. It was not, as Santo claimed, a "fleecing".

2. Leaving out details such as Fox and Ferland (the latter, a nice piece until he got very banged up) as part of trade details is conspicuously disingenuous.

Fox, in particular, is a cautionary tale of how not to handle a draft pick. Prior to the draft they should have had a good indication of whether Fox had any intentions of signing with the team (granted, he may have been tight-lipped about it, but why?) and post-draft they should have done everything in their power to entice him to sign.

He was a poorly handled asset and a major team regret. A direct trade with the Rags for Fox, his only desired destination, should have been explored. Hamilton, a mercurial player and personality (to say the least), could have been acquired without the need for his inclusion.

Having said that, Lindholm has been very good and Hanifin has been serviceable but has underachieved. Not a bad haul but nothing to write home about considering other pieces lost.

Toi wit: my issue with Treliving is that while he isn't shy to pull the trigger on "big" deals I can't point to a single one where he hasn't somehow ended up on the losing or "lesser" end.

YMMV.

Hey now!! Tsk tsk!! I would never say never!! What I said was…….im sure there are many teams where the GM gets his moves rubber stamped by upper management. There is no way the President of a team hears about the trade on sports, on his way to work. And, if the President is rubber stamping it then he has the option to say no. Makes sense.

What gets my shorts in a knot, is that we have now heard than Shanny called the core four and said, hey never mind what Dubas said at his press conference, we aren’t trading any of you! That’s crap! If this is true then that’s what canned Dubas! Him saying in his presser, essentially that anyone and everyone is tradable if it makes the team better. If that’s the case, if Shanny really did that, I’m Frankin done with this team! I’ve watched since the 66/67 season and that would be it for me! What the frank is the sense of bringing in a GM and essentially telling him that he can just tinker with the auxiliary players…..and don’t do anything without checking with me first! I’d tell Shanny to jam it. Can you imagine the core back, and Keefe back, and Dubas gone! What the heck would be the point of that! The only thing keeping me from burning my Leaf jersey if that happens, is that it has Doug Gilmours name on it! Gilmour and Clark bled blue and left absolutely everything on the ice.
