They absolutely do not and they're not going to risk an important season and Levi's first full rookie season on a split with Comrie or UPL

They'll move one of them and the other will go to roch.

What makes you think they will pony up to acquire another goalie?

The fact that Comrie and UPL combined were maybe only slightly better than David Ayres.

It's the most efficient way for them to upgrade and protect their downside next year.

Let's all remember, making these moves to rid the sabres of UPL and Comrie will only result in one of them winning the Veznia next season along with becoming the face of whatever team they are backstopping to a glorious stanley cup run.

I do not agree with it, I just see no indicators to believe aggressive moves will be made with winning next season as the foundation of the move.
- washedup20

Of course you don't. Neither do I. I'd guess there's only a couple few apologist idiot fans that do.

After some more conversations the last few days my understanding is this can be upgraded from “close” to “pretty much done.”

Nothing can be official until 7/1, of course, but 8 years, $80 million ($10 million cap hit) is what I’m expecting when all is said and done.

With Dahlin pretty much wrapped up the focus shifts to Power on getting an extension done this summer. Sounds like there is still a bit of work to be done on that front.

Also, fwiw don’t rule out a shorter term extension of Mittelstadt either.

Sounds like a job for Meatball and co:

"They're ready for the next challenge," Granato said. "And they're moved to that next challenge already. I mean, these guys are talking about next season, but they're talking about what they're going to do through the summertime for next season, to get prepared for next season.

"… I felt I had to say very little back to them. I felt they had a really good grasp on what I would want as a coach."

The Sabres are eager to build upon a season that featured individual breakouts, marquee victories, and tangible growth in the standings. They went 16-9-3 in March and April - a pace that would amount to 102 points if stretched over an 82-game season.

That success was the byproduct of a growth mindset instilled by Granato and propagated by a group of young players who share a collective hunger to succeed.

With little turnover expected on the roster, Granato expects that mindset to remain come September.
"There's a process to winning and if you don't respect that process, you're not going to win enough," Granato said. "And I think respecting that process is continuing to compete hard every day.

"We're going to keep operating as we operated this year. It's the only way I know. And I've been fortunate to be around a lot of winning in my career. I like the direction we're going, but we've got a long way to go."

Here's an outline of key dates and what to expect this offseason.

Upl 17-11-4 last season.

That's a lot of starts and wins for a guy they dont like.

Not bad for a rookie/ young nhl goalie IMO

You see comrie and his 1.7 million $ deal in rochester ?
Only if the Sabres keep to young inexperienced goalies in buffalo....

He only got those starts because they had no one else. He wasnt good. The team in front of him bailed him out more often than the other way around.

This goalie debate is getting tiresome between here and Sabres twitter.

If the Sabres are dumb enough to ride a guy with 7 career pro games in a must make it season next year they deserve all the bad things to happen to them

I dont think there's any debate over whether they need to upgrade over whats already there, mostly just the fear that they won't.

Development culture and patience = cop out = job security.

Correct however, the Sabres mentality towards players is development/improvement - nothing indicates they will go after one of the goalies you mentioned due to that approach.

Who has Adams moved in his tenure that didn't request to be traded?

- washedup20

Marcus Johansson.

But no I hear you. There's going to be a time (soon) that they will need to move guys out that they supposedly like in order to get better.

He knows the best way this team gets better is to develop en masse. That's his approach and he's not shy about it. Fine. He's right, too. This team was better because of the advancements from Krebs, Cozens, Thompson, Tuch, Skinner, Mittelstadt, Dahlin and the quality and expected development from JQ, JJ and Power.

There are also guys who probably are what they are, like Joker, Bryson, Olofsson and Comrie who if they were taking next season seriously, would be looking to swap out to make room for either ready-prospects, or improvements. Any added improvement is likely complimentary and doesn't move the needle as much as the development of most of the guys on this team.

It's high time to churn the roster and get some better complimentary pieces.

Were the negotiations a bit clunky at one point with Levi when the Sabres were trying to bring him on board?

It's really not a "must make" season. You're making an opinion on the importance....

Sabres are ahead of schedule and have tons of really great young homegrown talent.

They deserve good things for being patient with the goaltending , in the form of levi.

Granato and Adams both preach development and improvement not winning, including next season.

Agree to disagree.

6 game winning streak , winning record. Young guy still in upl. He had some rough starts , as to be expected.

The team and offensively minded skill set didnt help much. I wouldnt say they "bailed" him out, aside from scoring more goals then he let in.

If they needed a last look for upl last season and he flopped, so be it. Move on.
