MB Leafs's GM yet?
also, which bad contract to we take on to get a free pick?
I say Mantha is a legitimate candidate - fidopro
If Washington keep some salary, I would take a chance on Mantha… Other option is to send Hoffman the other way…. Or combination of both…
Mantha had some good moments….

Backstrom and a few others were out for large portions of the season last year, so they had cap space to spare... they no longer have that luxury.
They have about 7 million to sign/promote 3-5 guys for the NHL roster.
Tight.
Unless they plan on going with only rookies of NHL cast-offs or league minimum PTOs to fill key roles.
Mantha and. his 5.7M seem to be a way out, if they can find any takers. But I do not see them taking back a contract, at least not one as heavy as Hoffman. |

I have a feeling Hoffman will not be in Montreal next year.
He will be either traded (to your point with salary retained, or a contract coming back that will expire) or more likely waived / bought out.

Hockey news mock draft, Who they think the Habs will pick and who would they pick.
5. MONTREAL CANADIENS
Team Pick: Will Smith, C | Our Pick: Oliver Moore, C
The Canadiens are given the choice of the “best of the rest” after the draft’s big four. While they might look at Will Smith, Rachel and I think Oliver Moore could be the best player from this year’s USA Hockey National Team Development Program when all is said and done. Moore’s game-changing speed and understanding of how to drive play up ice make him a lethal and translatable NHLer. He centered the second line for the NTDP, so he didn’t have the same complementary players as Smith and still put together an impressive season. Smith has incredible hands, puck skills, creative playmaking and offensive tools that could easily make him a force at the NHL level. He has some off-puck issues and doesn’t always put in a full effort defensively, but the upside is quite high. - Tony Ferrari - Symba007
So...don't pick Oliver Moore? Got it.

not only is he totally useless but most importantly, he takes a spot from a kid.

not a fan of "off-puck issues" and a low effort defensively..? come on man, he sounds like the exact prototype St. Louis is looking for.

I was referring to The Hockey News being a horrible source of information for anything hockey related. |

I imagine Tony Ferrari as being Guy Fieri's identical cousin, passionately describing and critiquing hockey players instead of cheeseburgers.

Reminds me of an old SNL skit where Robert De Niro played a mafia boss and Horatio Sanz was an undercover agent named Tony Pepperoni
He kept saying "Forget about it!"
De Niro: "Forget about what?"

well, it was a pretty decisive 8-3 win for the remparts after all lol... who's freaking out exactly, and why? because they consider the Q to be so weak compared to the OHL and WHL that losing against any team from that league should always be considered an embarrassing failure?

Those morons still think that the WHL is a defense factory. Living in the 2000's. |

People (idiots) still think the Q is the same as the 2002-2010 era where little overagers scored all the time and they only produced one or two good players a year as "an outlier." Q is stronger than ever both internally and internationally. Halifax is obviously the big one, but the Q has done an amazing job getting young foreign talent. |

They still think that league is this violent, mean, physical and rugged league because guys who played in it during the 80's love to talk about how teams how to warm up at separate times. |
