This is just not enough. Briere and Jones should be working endlessly and diligently creating super players in a lab, 25 hours a day.

Re: Free agency, what I've heard is that the Flyers will wait until the inevitable shift to a buyer's market when there bargains available on 1 year or 2 years at most deals. So it's hard to say who will still be out there that they can "backfill" (to use Torts' favorite word about how he sees the offseason) after they subtract. They're not planning to be active in signings in the opening days of free agency.

Re: Kjell and Brown, I prefer not to speculate publicly. There are a lot of rumors about changes involving a lot of names in hockey ops and management. I wrote about the ones that sound the most immediately believable and came from more than one source.

There's nothing wrong with the current analytics department. They have very capable and bright people in the department. It's up to the end users to apply (or not apply) the data received as they see fit. Also, a big task of the analytics department is to generate and sort the data the end users themselves request.

Are there any more 30-something 4th line face punchers they can sign for 4 years at $1.75m?

More promoting from within. That's exactly what you want when a franchise is in the dumps of the NHL. Elevate those who are already in place.

But they also do reports based on end user requests. i've given the example in the past that both Lavy and Berube were fond of board pins and rebound clearing opportunities/ success rates to supplement video.

Ultimately, if the end users only want to use the data to compare to their eye test and go back and rewatch video if there's a discrepancy, that's their prerogative. In general, there are data that GMs tend to prefer, data preferred by coaches and, increasingly, data geared toward player personnel/AGMs. But it's all ultimately up to the decision makers to decide what degree they wish to rely on and use it.

Anderson either doesn't have his dept developing useful enough information or he's not good enough at selling the value of their data to the hockey ops folks.

Either way, it's been a failure for almost a decade now. Proof is in the pudding.

Briere: We will pick the BPA at #7.

He doesn't think Michkov will be there at #7 but he is not deterred by the political situation.

My take is that if Michkov is there he will pick him as the BPA.
