What do we think of the Gerard Gallant for coach rumours?

I still think Mitch Love is the better call but GG is interesting. Would the owner want to pay for Gallant is the issue, seeing as we're already providing Sutter's next big farmland purchase.

Does anyone think that Markstrom's NMC would be an issue if the Flames tried to move up in this year's draft? Swap picks with a team who wants a goalie, take back a bit of salary to help smooth things over, draft David Reinbacher, then go with Vladar and Wolfe in net all year.

- MABster

Being fired in Florida then Vegas and now NY should put up multiple flags. Brunette now out of the running, I’m thinking we’ll see Huska or Love coach the Flames.
Iginla coaching a select u15 team would be a great assistant to either.

Reaves is older than Lucic, imo big mistake using a roster spot on a guy like him. We need to get faster and Reaves doesn’t help in that area.

Point well taken.

Last night Vegas won the Western title and a birth in the Stanley Cup final and a fair portion of the 6 goals they scored were by their fourth line.

They are motivated, big and fast and more than capable of putting the puck in the net and I promise you not intimidated by a 36 year old "enforcer" Ryant Reaves.

Everyone complaining about how slow Lucic was and so now want to add Reaves. We need more Duehr type and less Lucic type. Zary, Duehr and Klapka would be an interesting 4th line next year. Say no to signing old UFA’S!

Not to mention the price tag of that fourth line is something the Flames desperately need...thanks Tre !

Looks like Treliving is signing in Toronto. Hope he doesn’t pull a Fletcher on Conroy and fleece him in a trade.

Thanks Tre indeed.

Eric Staal is currently eating up big ice time numbers for the Panthers in there Stanley Cup run.

Staal was available for free as a free agent and minimum salary.

Instead Tre during the same time period gives up 3 draft picks for Calle Jankrok.

I am and will continue to be a long time Flames fan but Tre's handling of players like Tzachuk, Bennett and Monahan, not to mention the desperate long term contracts, make it hard to stay positive.

I think they need to bring in some character that can guide the young’s guys.

Kadri and Huberdeau do not seem to have a decent attitude.

I don’t think that’s true, Huberdeau was helping the young guys out, Kadri will be better now that Sutter is gone. We got Weegar, Tanev, Anderson, Backlund for character. This team needs youth and speed.

Saw an article suggesting Anderson as the next Flames Captain, I’d be ok with that.

I agree with points 1,2,3. I think Philips has the talent to be with the big club full time next year, as does Deuhr and Pelletier. Wolf has also earned a spot as backup, and Vladar should get interest around the league.
I think the Flames 4th line should be constructed to be able to forecheck hard and fast, with some offensive pop. Duehr and Ruzicka fit well there, but another player I really like is Michael Carcone. An AHL MVP finalist and played on the gold medal Canada team at the worlds, he shoots the puck well and punches well above his weight class. A free agent this summer.
Does Coronato make the team, and if so, does that make either Toffoli or Lindy expendable? If contract extensions cant be worked out, do you lose them for nothing at the end of season?
Tanev, Toffoli, and Lindy all have a year left....

Great point on the UFA'S.

Less we forget, here's a walk down memory lane of Tree's hockey savvy'.

Michael Frolik 5 year $21.5 mil

Troy Brewer 4 year $ 18 mil

James Neal 5 year $ 28.75 mil

Blake Coleman (at age 30) 6 year $29.4 mil

I will be generous and leave Kadri and Huberdeau open for debate.

Good luck Leaf fans!

I don't mind Coleman...a little overpaid but useful. I'd put Raymond in his place on that list.

Brad did a lot of good…..turning Beartchi into Rassmus

Brad did bad…..Gio, Brodie, JG all for nothing. Trying to remember the name of the Dman that we traded for from NYI. They used those pics to fet Dobson. 🤬

Brad got lucky. Chiarreli trying to screw the Bruins over because of his own mess threatening to offer sheet Hamilton. That’s when Brad got a call asking if he was interested in Hamilton. Hamilton became Lindholm and Hanafin. 🍀

I guess we can put any rumors of Lindholm to the Jackets to rest. Can’t see him wanting to sign an extension if Babcock is their coach.

So, I keep thinking we should know who the head coach will be by the end of the week.

I saw a thread on C of Reddit that was asking why Love over Huska and supposedly Huska did not have a great record when coaching the baby Flames where as Love has won coach of the year twice.

But how much if that was having Wolf?

I think it will be Huska, The fact that he was interviewed last year and made the short list in Detroit tells us if he doesn’t get the job that he won’t be her long. He won a championship with the Rockets and has proved he can coach the young guys.
Love as an assistant is still a promotion for him.

Probably right but the longer this drags on the more I wonder about Tanguay or Savvy.
Cant imagine Conny doesnt have all the intel he needs to make a call on Huska or Love.

Nice move by the Rockets picking up Tij!

I agree on Tij, Seattles roster was too deep for him to play consistently.
He’ll look good with Cristall on his wing next year. It’s been a long time to be excited about the Rockets, have to watch a few before heading south.

I am also leaning towards Savard as head coach.

My reasoning is as follows:

1) Conroy mentioned the importance of having a tight GM-coach relationship.
2) Savard was a player in Calgary; he has a history here.
3) The current players just ran off a head coach. This may be the environment you want a rookie NHL coach to enter.
4) When Iggy walks into the system next year, he will have a head coach with whom he already has a relationship.
5) You can still promote Love and maybe not lose Huska. If Love gets the hea job I cannot see Huska wanting to stick around.

Also, IGGY would be a perfect fit for Conroy's old position. Keep him in a position where he can keep being the face of the franchise......till this franchise finds another face. You will eventually have to fire him if you put him in as a coach or assistant GM.
