I would rather gamble on guys like Svechnikov and Zadina than Manalainen and AJF. Svech and Zadina were at least highly touted prospects. I think the common narrative by others is that no superstar wants to play in Winnipeg and as such this franchise should be taking shots on guys that at least had superstar potential as opposed to guys that never had it!

Marchessault just won the Conn Smyth and never had superstar potential, yet someone took a chance on him. go figure.

Interesting article on Scheifle..... claiming that wheeler and Scheif isolated themselves in the locker room. Likley old news but also talks about the mkt for Scheif and Helle not being to robust.

As an 18 year old in the Q, he did have 30 goals, 41 assists for 71 points in 68 games. As a 19 year old he had 40 goals, 55 assists for for 95 points in 68 games. Those are great numbers! I am thinking no one drafted him due to him being 5’9 and 183 lbs. His draft eligible years would have been 2010 and 2011. GM’s seemed to be obsessed with size back then.

Comparatively speaking Zadina in his one year in the Q at age 17 had 44 goals and 38 assists for 82 points, which compares relatively well to Marchessault.

Marchessault did not have his “break out” until he was 25, where he scored 30 goals for Florida.

Zadina is only 23 years old is much bigger at 6”0 and weighing in at close to 200 lbs.

Perhaps taking a chance on Zadina is not such a bad idea!

Zadina has always been an intriguing player to me, lots of skill and potential.

However when Steve Yzerman of the Wings says "no thanks", I see a huge red flag. Yzerman has always struck me as a pretty smart, level headed guy.

Like I said, Zadina skilled, but.....??? Someone may get a bargain...or not? Maybe we have enough problems already?

Funny how everyone already forgets that Bobrovski, making 10mil a year carried the entire Florida team on his back and was without question the number one 1 reason they made it to the final.
- Ross77

But Bob didn't win the cup.

Funny how everyone forgets about Tkakuk, who had just as much to do with carrying the team on his back as Bob did.

Tkachuk had a fantastic playoffs, did he have as much to do with Florida getting the final as Bob, No!

i hope Zadina does explode, im not routing against him. my point was he is just the first of about 20 players that will hit the waiver wire in the next 12 months that fans will all be saying lets sign him. teams dont have extra contracts to do this as easily as fans think

Florida doesn't go anywhere if Bob doesn't get hot when he does.

In fact Florida's season is a tale of two goalies getting hot just at the right times to have the season they did, if Lyon doesn't heat up towards the end of the season they probably don't even make the playoffs.

Tkachuk dissappears in many games and his antics cost his team a lot, he hardly carried the Panthers on his back.

I think Zadina will eventually do well. Looking back over the past 10 years of the draft. Only 4 other Halifax Mooseheads were drafted in the top 10 and they include: MacKinnon, Drouin, Ehlers and Meier. Zadina was the 5th Moosehead taken in the top 10 and based on the names mentioned alone, I would take a chance on him.

Bobrovsky is the number 1 example for the reason no GM wants to sign Hellebuyck to a long term extension, and probably are only offering rental prices in a trade with the Jets.
Bob was a 2 time Vezina winner coming off a half descent age 30 season with 9 shutouts. Florida makes him a 10 million dollar player and he's been mediocre to just plain bad in the four seasons since, and one playoff run where he was better than average doesn't make up for that.

Where are you putting Zadina on the Jets roster? Every spot is already spoken for. He needs a shot in some teams top 6 not competing with Appleton and Barron for 4th line minutes

RE: Zadina - possibly a bit of an attitude problem, but I don't see any logic in taking a guy like that and playing him in the bottom 6.

RE: Heinola (the new Postma/Enstrom/Dano) - time to move on from him. He's not going to crack the lineup as it stands at the moment, so give him a fresh start somewhere else.

also, he's only ever been a 4th liner, not saying he can not be a middle 6 guy, but he hasn't even achieved that yet while playing on a bottom feeder team in Detroit.

He performed better than his role, is the point

Yzerman signed Chairot on purpose, and let him sink Seider for half a season before swapping him out with Walman

Yea, don't think anyone (not Stevey Y) is expecting the Wings to win The Cup this season.

Sign some FA's who might be valuable for picks at the deadline?

Postma was like 30, Enstrom was a top 4 guy who walked, and Dano was the same age as Heinola is now when he was traded here. Unrelated things are unrelated.

Heinola is also likely better than Schmidt and Pionk at the very least, and with most of our blueline set to walk in the next 2 summers, trading the youngin who’s utterly dominated the AHL for 3 years now and was ready at 18 isn’t wise.

Excuses, excuses......

If Heinola did indeed dominate the AHL, there should be a lot of teams wanting him.

Enstrom was what when he walked?

He was a 6th-7th at the end and had chances

6 pts in 54 games his last year including a stat line of zero in 11 playoff games

He was done

We don’t know that there aren’t. The Jets prefer dying on the vine to selling off potential.

He was the best pure shutdown defenceman in the league that year, and the pairing with Buff was the 3rd most impactful in the NHL for 2017-18.

It’s not much of an observation to say his offence was gone, he knew it, the Jets knew it, you and I knew it. He adjusted, and had go left.

"The Jets prefer dying on the vine to selling off potential."

This is so accurate and such a problem for this organization.

Agreed - they should try to dump their mistakes quicker.....of course, that's not so easy, when the other 31 teams usually recognize crap when they see it.
