Tell him to fleece the leafs. They are itching to give some players away. - dothedougie
They aren’t interested so he will just have to settle for signing Matthews in UFA |

He's not wrong but not totally correct. To me it's the line of demarcation between really good and great. Sorry not sorry. truly great players win in 2019 and don't have both 2010 and 2023 in their careers. Bergeron has been my favorite player since after the lockout. He's been a fantastic regular season player but all the scapegoats last year were gone.
Julien
Chiarelli
Wideman
Rask
Chara
Cassidy
To name a few scapegoats who have come and gone over the years. I know I sound like Felger ( I will drink bleach when I get home from work) but this has something wrong in it's DNA. They just don't win.

Not wrong about this either. Bolts and bruins are sinking, Wings and Sabres are rising.
Entirely plausible that the Wings and the Sabres make the playoffs this year. Its going to be hard for the sinking teams to keep up late in the season. - dothedougie
Definitely a much more wide open division than recent years. Don’t think any team has that big of a margin of error. One bad stretch or key injury and your shot at the playoffs is in major jeopardy. |

Mainly trolling but not all that different from Zetterberg where a lot of wings fans put him up there with all time greats of the franchise even though he really didn’t accomplish as much as those guys. |

Fair point on winning championships. Ill give you that. I guess I just dont want to associate the term overrated with my favorite player. Likely purely an emotional argument there. I think his body of regular season work has made him one of the greatest two way players to ever play the game. At least that is how I view him.
With that view, I have a hard time associating Bergy with being overrated. In fact, im just not going to do it. |

Zetterberg is another great player in my opinion. There can be varying levels of greatness and winning and a player can still be considered one of the best. Im just going to accept that I have a different bar on labelling a player overrated and move on lol. |

As much as I hate to say it, I am predicting the leafs will likely win the division this year.
They have another 19 years before they win a playoff round so its not like it will matter much. |

For sure. Just off putting to me when fans talk about him like he’s a first ballot HOFer or a guaranteed jersey retirement guy. |

At this point they would have to be the division favorites but they’ll find a way to (frank) up one way or another. |

Wasn't he a 7th round pick too? Kind of impressive that he had such a great career as a very late round pick. People talk about the odds of late rounders making it a lot these days. Back in '99, odds were likely worse for late rounders.
Impressive body of work given the expectation of draft position. |

Overrated is not the word I'd use. I am also severely biased and do not give a (frank) if that is liked or disliked by other fans and fanbases.

Zetterberg or Patrice? Patrice is likely a first ballot hall of famer. He has won at all three levels and it's a "hockey" hall of fame. 6 Selkes probably gets him first go round.
Do you not think Zetterberg is like top 5-7 in Wings history? I would imagine they retire his number? No?

Zetterberg specifically. And I don’t think he’s even a top 5 forward in red wings history.
In no specific order: Howe, Yzerman, Fedorov, Datsyuk, Abel, Delvecchio, and Lindsay probably all ahead of him imo. |

Yeah, he's only won 6 Selkie trophies...
Never said he was the best ever, but to say he's overrated is silly IMO.
He's the type of player that every single team in the NHL covets.

Not the word I used or would use on Bergeron. I would say very good. Great players win multiple cups.
