His cap hit is 12.6 per year. The highest cap hit In The league and is making 16 mil a year for the first three years of that deal.
I call BS. - ImThatGuy
It's also buyout proof and all in signing bonuses.
Team friendly my ass.

If AM and his 85pts in 74 games is worth 13.25, what is Mac worth at 111 in 3 less games? 14? 15?
He took less, yet again. He could've easily milked COL for more on his last deal too. AM took every penny both times. That extra change makes a difference. |

Nate followed Crosby in taking less to have a better team around him

You're under the impression he couldn't have gotten the same deal as AM despite being the better producer both in the regular season and playoffs? |

Right and these guys are at the top of the game. We aren't even talking about all the vets that take significantly less to come or stay on teams like that. I just used Mac as an example because he literally said he took less... |

Since you are using comparisons, his new deal pays him more than what the best player in the sport makes.
How is that team friendly if it made him the highest paid player in the sport at the time he signed the deal, when he's not the best player in the sport?

Weird we haven't heard even a peep on that. Whatever is going on is being kept very quiet. - Buff36
Boss had it right...they're waiting until closer to Training Camp.
Might have Power wrapped up by then as well? |

You're skipping over the fact McDavid signed that deal in 2018, when Mac was making $6.3M. McDavid will get $15-17M on his next deal. Their career contract totals aren't even going to be close, so I'd say that's probably a bad comparable. |

Because the other deal you refer to was signed before 5 seasons ago, at 1.4% of Cap more (than McKinnon's recent) at the time of the signing ? Gee, I wonder if that matters? |

Neither deal (Mac or Matthews) is team friendly, despite the spin the user with multiple logins is attempting to apply to it. |

I think you're approaching this as if I am saying they are "signing for little" instead of "signing for less". None of the top players are signing for half or something.
And as I said, we aren't even talking about all the vets that sign for contenders on actual vet minimum contracts either. That happens every year. |

You are approaching it as if Matthews could not have asked for and gotten even more than he got, when he could have. |

I'm hoping you don't pick a player I like with the track record of the two players you have picked so far.
One left, and the other sustained a serious injury. |

Be careful, I'll change my name to CongFan and you'll have a protruding bone fractor or torn ACL by day's end.
Agree to disagree my friend, ain't no big thang. |

Quality and Quantity, now where do they all fit. - Buff36
They SHOULD begin to be integrated into the lineup this season, towards the 2nd half I imagine.
Then, they push out guys like Mitts before his higher-priced contract begins to negatively impact the Cap flexibility...like Quinn was supposed to push OloMinus21 out the door.
Soon, Benson pushes Skinner out ...maybe a buyout after the 24-25 season, after playing his 1st season lower inthe line-up.
That is how to keep the contender window open for an extended period. |

Nice, I like your thoughts. Thing that worries me is there are a lot of them, he will have to move a good prospect or 2. I just hope that the right evaluations are done and aren't rushed because of how many. |
