Cole and Soucy aren't going to move the needle much, they basically are replacements for Bear and OEL and I think it's going to end up a wash although it might be addition via subtraction on OEL's part.
- DariusKnight

Huh? The gap between Cole and OEL is massive. OEL was such a black hole that the team improved when they put a college rookie in the line up. Now they're putting a competent top 4 vet in there. Definitely not a wash.

Soucy I can buy being a massive upgrade, Cole is basically a better defensive version of Bear. I said that it's an addition via subtraction getting rid of OEL because you're right, he was a black hole, the fact remains that it doesn't really do much unless the forwards are willing to actually come back and help out the D and get puck possession. With how much our forwards save for maybe the 4th line and EP40 like to hang around the blue line (or in Miller's case in the neutral zone) waiting for the breakout pass, even the best D corp in the league would look bad.

Wow. I don’t think this is correct. Miller had 200+ hits last season (third highest on the team and top 30 league-wide). You don’t get that number floating in the neutral zone. Miller has many faults but his defensive zone activity or back checking (on most nights) is not one of them.

I know people don’t like stats, but sometimes a quick look at the numbers can correct misconceptions.

So if one is a massive upgrade, and the other is another upgrade... I mean it's not putting them in god-tier defending, but going from negative to anything around neutral is a plus for this team.. and that means it's not a wash lol

I've said this before, but the largest impact on the team is going to be the coaches and how much buy in the players give to their systems. They have a better group of players than last year, but if it's the same effort level and lack of defensive structure as a team it's not going to mean much.

When Quinn Hughes was on the ice at five-on-five for the Vancouver Canucks during the 2022-23 campaign, the club outscored opponents by 20 goals in roughly 1,500 minutes.

In the 2,500 minutes, however, when Hughes took a breather, his teammates were outscored at five-on-five by a whopping 43 goals.

Hopefully the addition of better D and taking out the trash will address that.

The Lions are the best team in the NFL right now, the Chiefs are the worst team in the NFL right now. Seahawks are pretty middle of the pack right now, tied with every other team other than the aforementioned.

You may want to wait until the rest of the league plays at least one game before making a statement like that!

Even I got the sarcasm. Or are you trying to take over the resident dipshit title in Lefty's absence? If so, you'll have to try a lot harder.

Just read he is not looking to retire yet. Will probably end up in Calgary.

Nightie brought up a question a few weeks back about not knowing what young RHD prospect would you be willing to trade next years first for. So just for fun, Canucks do need to make one more move this year to be compliant or put someone on LTIR. Do you have anyone in mind? I had just seen a proposal on CF ACGM about a trade with Arizona for Soderstrom a RHD 22 year old. It shipped out Rathbone Pearson and next years first for the young Dman.

I thought it was a decent offer, do you have another Dman in mind. Canucks do have a few Dmen prospects doing pretty well already. I know the answer is keep the pick but as I said it is just for entertainment.

This kid Brzustewicz is looking very decent so far this year.

Better option than EP. EP is a great player, but you can't give the C to a guy who is saying he will only sign long term if we make playoffs.

I still think it is a little early for a C. No offence because he is a very good player but QH still looks like a little boy and can easily be intimidated. I know it is not that way but he still looks so young.

You usually wait in a captain out of respect for a long standing captain that truly lead the team, like Henrik. Bo doesn't deserve that same respect.

I was reading Winnipeg are looking to trade Schiefele. Could you imagine how good our top two lines would be. I think Canucks would be a legitimate threat if that ever happened.
