Crazy that Salo went from prized prospect who made the team out of camp last year, to losing his spot to Aho, to someone they're OK with placing on waivers just a year later.
- UIF

Semantics, but I don't know if he was ever "prized". But he was definitely someone with some real good potential.

I'm curious if he has any room to grow still, assuming he doesn't get claimed on waivers in which case I don't give a poop about him

I would really like to keep Durandeau around though, I hope nobody scoops him up although it seems like it's pretty rare guys pluck players off the waiver wire when so many pass through at the end of training camps.

East Meadow, NY– With one left to go in the preseason, the New York Islanders announced that they’ve cut the following 19 players from training camp.

William Dufour, Aidan Fulp, Ruslan Iskhakov, Eetu Liukas, Kyle MacLean, Matthew Maggio, Travis Mitchell, Reece Newkirk, and Calle Odelius have all been loaned to the Islanders’ AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.

Ken Appleby, Dennis Cholowski, Arnaud Durandeau, Grant Hutton, Otto Koivula, Karson Kuhlman, Paul LaDue, Brian Pinho, Robin Salo and Jakub Skarek were all placed on waivers.

Yeah that was bad. Isles played a close to opening night roster, and I barely knew any of the Devils playing.

Bellows released from Canes. I guess the Canes play their vets over talented youngsters who need a chance as well

The result was not very surprising. The young Devils players had something to play for. The Islanders veterans did not. Plus, neither Sorokin nor Varly looked sharp pre-season. I think that will change once the season starts.

Having said that, I saw nothing in pre-season that makes me think the Islanders have found the key to finishing their chances. It could be a long season.

I know it is only preseason but this team has not shown any signs of improvement.

My question is how long is Lou going to wait to make a serious change if this team falter's

Johnston, who played his first game with the Isles in 2015-16, currently has three seasons left on his contract at $1.1M per season, struggling to find playing time since agreeing to his current four-year deal in 2021.

Lou will drive this truck(vets first and mostly only) until the wheels fall off. The fans were booing them in the preseason. (I know this fanbase is a bit, oh, nutso)If the team falters out of the gate, I don't think Ledecky will be showing his face behind the net high fiving fans too much this season.

Sounds like he's actually not. I'd have liked to see what he could do in the AHL but playing in the SHL is still a really great league. Hope he has a big season.

Before @hockeynightny show, #Isles prospect Calle Odelius will not remain in North America as he heads back to Djurgardens for one more season.

He told me last week that it wasn't a lock he was going back.

He will come to NA for 2024-25.

Im not saying we have some powerhouse team but I wouldn’t use preseason games as a barometer for what the regular season will be like. If this team can stay reasonably healthy and Dobson and Wahlstrom show some improvement we could make a little noise imo. I know the preseason didn’t show any of what I just mentioned but I would wait ten games or so before you write the season off. I remember one season we went 6-0 in the preseason then went on to crap the bed the entire regular season.

Agreed. However, I am getting a feeling that the fanbase will have very little patience with this team if they have a slow start, especially after yet another "Summer of Lou". (doing pretty much nada) I usually give the team about 20 games and see what's what before saying, "seasons over".

Yes, I do believe we Islander fans can be somewhat nuts and over the top. However, I do not believe Ledecky is fake and would not continued to interact with the fan base.

Apparently it doesn’t for some reason. They had to send Holmstrom down until Johnson clears

IF they send Johnston down. Don't think they have to. Didn't they put Uncle Leo on waivers 3 or 4 times that one season?
