It's even simpler than that. 3rd line and 2nd line players don't produce as consistently as 1st line level players. Therefore, the overwhelming majority of NHL players are inconsistent. Since there are far more 2nd, 3rd and 4th line players for that matter than there are 1st line level players. - MJL
well no schitt cliff. That is a talent issue. Not a consistency issue.

Putting Pasta on the level of McDavid is incorrect. It's McDavid and everyone else. To say there is nothing special about him is an emotional opinion because you probably hate the Bruins.
Two things:
1. Hate away. No one gives a (frank).
2. You would being singing a different tune if Pastrnak was wearing your laundry and attacking anyone who thinks differently.
Pasta's production might dip slightly without Bergeron sure. That's not exactly a hot take there big shot. He worked well with Zacha there is is chemistry there. The real drop is losing Taylor Hall. Hall's passing and playmaking is underrated. Boston's most inconsistent guy would be DeBrusk. With him slotted on that line, there will be dips. He is a very streaky and is essentially a passenger when not scoring.
As for Konecny he is a really good player on a brutal team. Of course he would see an uptick in production with better players. Another piping hot take. |

Lets say a player scores at a 3rd line rate for 5/6 years in a row. Is that player a consistent player? Or is he inconsistent because he doesn't produce at a 1st line rate?

Some want to equate production with consistency. That is simply a naive argument. |

You’d think this was a pretty simple concept when discussing consistency for an NHL player |

How is scoring production not a factor in rating a player's consistency? This is what you do. You make vague statements with no substance behind it.

so we should expect TK to score at Pastas level? Sounds smart. How’s pastas defenseive effort every night? Would you consider him a consistent player? |

chiefs barely beating the jets i guess they should be worried - 2Real
A little late to the party on this one, but all I have to say is that game was poorly officiated. On one of Mahomes' scrambles near the end (on 3rd and forever) there was a hold as clear as day. Mahomes scrambles for 20 some yards for a first down. I see the flag graphic and think they got it. Nope, instead they call a ticky tack hold against the Jets.
I'm no Jets fan, but I wanted the Chiefs to lose that game.
As for your original point, I agree. |

Who said that we should expect that? You tell me, how is Pasternak's defensive effort every night? Time for you to put some skin in the game and come up with something relevant. Bring some facts to the table to support your stance.

Can't access that now. Again, Pasternak has strong defensive numbers.
I just was able to access it. I see that Pasternak has a 99% WAR. That's high level elite and he is definitely a consistent player.

Semantics yet again. The great sports debate! Does anyone remember that show? That was back when Philly media was actually worth listening to. The reality is that consistency should be on a year to year deal. Does a player consistently produce similar numbers year after year. The season is 82 games long and there will be ebbs and slows for every player. Only the best of the best are gonna find the scoring column night after night. Thanks! |

So a wing in the best team in the league, a record breaking team that is, verse a center on one of the worst teams in the league? And Boston has been good almost pastas entire career there. Do you think that would skew his numbers favorably? Or do you just post random numbers and laugh to yourself tbinking you’re so smart |
