[quote=PT21]I agree they will win more games than not. I also believe they are fundamentally a better team than Dallas. 😏

My standard was not either of those 2. It was simply: is this looking like a Superbowl team?

100% they are. I do not think they have played their best football and are 8-1. They will prove what they are over the next five games. Getting the first seed is so important though. One less game and two home games to go to the SB.

The Flyers are trying to build a culture of a hard working team that plays the right way and expects to win each and every night. Look at the Bruins as an example. They have a winning culture based on 200 foot play and sound defensive structure, and players come into their system and thrive. This year for example, the Bruins have two rookie 2nd round picks playing big minutes for them, one at center and the other on defense. I have no doubt these young players are thriving because of the culture and standard that has been built over the past 15 years, that the thug Marchand is carrying forward as captain of the team.
- jd250

a hard working team, so nothing has really changed from say the last x amount of years.

What does playing the right way even mean? There is no set play the right way mantra. Just a buzz word.

speakng of the bruins how is their coach doing? Seems to be ok so far.

Did you mean when your sharks lose or the flyers? Haha. Flyers have zero chance here. They are bad streak busters and goal slump busters.

If a team could be seen as a Superbowl team because there is no one obviously better, than EVERY team in say 2043 would be a super bowl quality team. (Because we have no information that would place any team as better than the others)

That's illogical. It's not a hypothetical. It's look at where every team is in the league currently. That information clearly puts the Eagles at this point in time as a contender for the Super Bowl.

Yes, the next few games will be key. They will do something they have not done yet: face good teams on the road

To me, it looks like they have played at a high level. Jalen Hurts and AJ have carried them. Their D line has been fine. Their studs have by and large performed.

The unimaginative offensive play calling, and the huge coverage issues between the hashes: those seem structural to me. Maybe the return of Roby and the under the radar return of Justin Evans will bring some stability.

When I cast doubt their Superbowl chances, it is based on this: a significant amount of their success is based on luck. Thing about a knockout style playoffs like the NFL is: you only need to get unlucky once

I agree there is no obviously better team. But the point is, there are way too many who are almost nearly as good.

When you look at how the Eagles perform over a large sample of close games. It's not luck. It's making plays when they matter the most. You can be the best team in the league and lose a single playoff game. Where events such as turnovers, injuries can swing a single game.

Obviously you are spot on when comparing this years team to last. But we have a 1/2 season to come together. One thing is for certain. The Roster is ultra talented.

I feel so lucky to live through this golden era of Eagles games. 🥲

It depends on what you mean by that. A contender as in there is no one better: sure. But a contender as in "favored"....probably not.

I do tend to be excessively pessimistic with my teams. Maybe it is an emotional hedging strategy.

No, the Dolphins ARE NOT a real team. They have 6 wins against opponents with a combined record of 7-30!! They are a farce! Thanks!

Of course they are a favorite. How are they not.

It's not emotional hedging to realize their shortcomings as a team. Those are obvious. Again, you don't have to be a great team to win the Super Bowl. Just have to be the best team.

You can only draft at the time based on who you think has the higher ceiling. Clearly Michkov has the higher ceiling. But then you have to look at other factors, like will the player actually play on my team. The Flyers felt comfortable that Michkov will eventually get over here and when he does the Flyers will be a team ready to get to the next step, and to assimilate him into the culture they are currently building. Look, last year was a deep draft and there will be many 1st round picks doing very good things for their respective teams in the coming years. Leonard will certainly be one of those players based on what I have seen so far. But in the end, if Michkov does get here and he is as or even more dynamic than say, Karill Kaprizov, I don't think any of us will care.

In Edmonton, I think the coach will be fired soon ... rinse and repeat.

- jd250

you called the michkov pick the biggest mistake in franchise history

How do you define "the best team?"

So, you actually wrote a post that said that to win the Superbowl you have to be the best team, where the best team is defined as the one who wins the superbowl?

In other words, to win the superbowl, you have to win the superbowl?

I am not sure what is more tragi-comic. That you provide a condition for a result to be the result itself, or that after it being pointed out, you still don't see it.

Guy, you missed your calling. You should 've been on tv: a late night sidekick, ed Mcmahon style. Or maybe as a character on the Monty Python shows.

Shades of Yogi Berra there. But Berra worked on those 1-liners.

For you, you would have just had to be you.
