Per Travis Yost and Frank Seravalli, Jacob Markstrom is being traded to the Devils. - vlongo4419
Bahl and 2025 1st
Not sure if this is the best move |

Markstrom Allen combo isn't the worst but markstrom isn't getting any younger and feels like a stop gap
Luckily it isn't 10th overall this year and devil's need to improve in other areas
I wonder what the D plans are
Hamilton
Nemec
Hughes
Marino
Siegenthaler

So surprised Calgary retained that much and that's all we gave up. Tidy bit of business for Fitz. Let's see what else hes gonna do over the next few weeks. |

Brenden Dillon is someone they're being linked to. Definitely going to add a vet left handed D with size imo. Still wouldn't be surprised if one of Siegs/Marino are moved out as well. Fitz certainly looking to retool the roster. |

He’s freaking 34 and a half years old. This is when athletes typically retire. He’s an average starting goalie entering the worst stage of his career, and we give up a 1st for him. The only saving (lol pun) grace is that it’s top 10 protected. |

It’s a horrible trade but I knew they were getting him when during the season Brodeur was asked who his top 5 goalies were in the league and he listed markstrom. |

This was a knee jerk trade from Fitz... to save his job... It was nothing more than a patchwork for a yr or two. Hes gonna do anything to guarantee a playoff spot
Id imagine our 2025 pick will be 20 -30 so no loss there.
Good trade, we get a good enough goalie to get us into the playoffs. Gave up no noticebale roster player. |

Yep, essentially gave up nothing of value while getting a good chunk of retention. There's nothing to dislike about the trade outside of his age(Bobrovsky is literally older and playing in back to back finals). We held onto all of our valuable assets to still potentially make more moves, we get a true starting goalie for the next 2 years, and we now have a 2 year window to allow one of Daws/Schmid/Poulter/Malek to actually develop into an NHL-caliber goalie.
Bahl is nothing more than 6/7 D and plays like he's 5'7 instead of 6'7, and the 1st is likely going to be in the 20s. Even the biggest Devils doomsayers out there who like to complain for no reason like the trade. |

Markstrom is clearly not big game.... I wonder who Fitz is really targeting for him to save his prized assets.

He absolutely is big game in their eyes, whether you agree or not. Markstrom was their clear #1 target from the beginning. He's who they wanted the whole time.
Coming into the offseason Markstrom was 3rd on my want list of the goalies, behind Ullmark and Saros. But based on the asking prices and the contract extentions
that were needed on top of the assets that would've been given up, it was obvious Markstrom was the clear move. With what we gave up and the fact that theyre eating almost 2M, I'm happy with the deal. I expected it to be more, based on the rumors/talk. |

He really said that? I wonder if they came to that conclusion based off his numbers on a poopty team. Like his numbers on a better team won't be as bad?
Idk, I never saw Markstrom as top 5. But whatever, as long as we make the playoffs. |

Yep, back in February. Said his top 5 active goalies are Vasilevskiy, Shesterkin, Sorokin, Adin Hill, and Markstrom. |

I like how Allen played. He played pretty darn good in the short time and considering the circumstances. So if this is an upgrade, really nothing to complain about. It had to be done. |

For sure. This is the most stable the Devils goaltending situation has been since prime Schneider. So almost a decade? If healthy, we're probably looking at a split of 50-55 games for Markstrom and ~30 for Allen.
Now to fill the rest of the holes on the roster. Still some questions to be answered. Top 6 winger? Revamping the bottom 6(center and/or wing)? Big/physical veteran left handed D? Anything else with the D? Who else is moved out? Keep the 10th overall pick or move that too? Should still be seeing multiple other moves/additions over the next few weeks. |

If we can get a good deal for zadarov that will help the D
We need some size and grit up front, not talking about someone who does nothing but fight but someone useful. Wouldn't mind if they also go for someone like bortuzzi or however spelled he may not be big but he forchecks and is someone who chips in |

Would love Zadorov, but he just screams like the typical free agency overpay. Rumors that he could get 5-6 years at 6-7M AAV. Don't think the Devils would be comfortable going there.
Bertuzzi is someone I'd definitely go after if he gets to July 1. In terms of the bottom 6 some guys I'd be looking at are Martinook, Amadio, Trenin, and Carrier.
Its not a great free agency, but there's some guys that the Devils should be looking into for the right price. I expect some more trades to address roster issues too. |

Been hearing a lot of teams want Arber Xhekaj from Montreal. RFA. Montreal def wants to keep him. But he is that D we need. Heavy hitter, fighter, knows how to handle and move with the puck |

Also if Dallas can’t keep hakanpaa he would be great for the team |

As the draft is coming up and we didn't trade our 1st for a goalie and assuming we keep the pick, who should the devil's select?
If pick is traded who would be a good target |

Sennecke or eiserman
The pick will be traded I’m assuming, hopefully for Brady but I doubt we’ll be so lucky. |

Imagine Timo and Brady on the same line |
