This effing makes my stomach turn. Wtf. Kid plays his 1st full season (without any injury), after playing just 29 games prior.. he’s 22.. seemed to be improving.. and just like Shara, is gone forever. I know the Toffoli deal wasn’t terrible, but this one is a joke. And Schmid isn’t complete garbage either. This is painful. Meanwhile, we haven’t figured out how to offload Palat.. who’s actually the largest albatross on this team. Freaking Holtz. 22yr old going into his 2nd season lol. Time to bloom this year and next.. and he’s gone.. seemingly just for poops and giggles.

For sure. I think the only guarantee Monday is that Pesce will be signed. Dillon isnt a guaranteed, but we're apparently going really hard for him(so is Boston and a few other teams). Beyond that, it's anybody guess, especially up front. The forward free agent market isn't exactly exciting. We'll see how it plays out.

Paul Cotter fills that with his skating, speed, and physicality. We are betting on Cotter’s upside, and he’s just scratched the surface of what he can do. With that being said, we have to give up to get a Cotter, and Holtz would have been the odd man out in our bottom six group."

It’s giving up on Holtz. Yea he starts in the bottom 6, but who’s to say he doesn’t excel and flourish there? Who’s to say he doesn’t bump himself to the top 6? Who’s to say he doesn’t finish with 30 goals? Who’s to say in the following year he’s not a 60pt winger or more? I’d rather bet on a guy that CAN score *AND* has only scratched the surface, rather than the upside of a grinder that can’t score.

So Markstrom gives us 2yrs at a decent 4m cap hit. Thompson would cost next to nothing this year, and then be a RFA.. and likely cost a lot more than 4, depending on how the year goes. He’s also 27 compared to 34. Thompson somehow cost nothing compared to a 1st rd pick and starting YOUNG and improving bottom pair D.
