Seabrook is involved with the Canadian world junior team in a management capacity. I’m curious if he’s planning to continue this with his sights on an NHL job one day?

That was a fun game especially since most of my friends are Avs fans. Richardson got really matchy with Bedard and I think that helped get him get space since he was away from MacKinnon. And he didn't get a point from it but that power play entry for the third goal - wow.

Reichel looked like a different player and a really good game from him. Looks like he got laid or something.

The Avs definitely got goalered to an extent but man are they thin past that top line. Johansen is still and will forever be a dumb pecker. The guys on the Avs broadcast were pretty dumbfounded that they lost.

I know we beat this one like a dead horse and he really isn't that bad but they don't look any better or worse without Jones.

That's why I'm really looking forward to these kids that KD drafted start making their way into the NHL.
- BetweenTheDots

Let's remember KK is the only defenseman drafted by KD. The rest were drafted by Stanbo...Vlasic, Kaiser, Phillips, Crevier, Allan, DelMastro.

I'm sure coaching has lot to do with their good play. Dean and Richardson at the NHL level and Campbell probably helps out here and there.

Here's to hoping KD's drafted forwards perform as well at the NHL level in a couple of years.

The Avs writer has a blog up regarding Colorado's interest in Calgary's Elias Lindholm. He provides some stats and comments on Lindholm. And he also mentioned that Lindholm supposedly turned down a 9M per year offer from the Flames. Maybe he just wants out of Calgary and will take less money elsewhere. He'll be a free agent this summer and may be just a rental if COL trades for him.

Watching the Colin Blackwell locker room interview.

He keeps saying yeah-no.

It’s a pet peeve of mine. 😒

Very gutsy game.

What is the difference between this crop of young dmen and the one from 2-3 years ago? Is this crop definitely that much better that they. Can all play against the Aves and not get exposed, or is it different set of expectations and circulations is all?

- busmaster

It's the system. Stan drafted most of these guys.

I like Lindstrom and what he brings to the table, but that’s a hefty price. Let’s see what the market dictates this offseason. He would look good as a 2nd line center and eventually a 3rd line center in 3-4 years, so he fits the rebuild timeline.

I ahd to listen to the Blackhawk broadcast team heap praise upon praise for rookie Sam Malinski, a right shot 5' 11" defenseman an undrafted player.

No where in the praise was it noted he will be 26 at the end of the season.

My point?

It wasn't like he just turned up. He played 4 years at Cornell University.

You would have thought that Panger would have wrapped this young man's climb and compared it to the Blackhawk stable we have of young defenders, maybe saying Roos won't be 26 for more than a year, or Vlasic 23 in June, Kaiser 22 in July, or Crevier turning 23 in May. or Phillips 23 in September.

And remember that besides drafting and striking out on small defenders, they still managed to take Phillips, Crevier, and then basically target Nolan Allen, and call him future Seabrook type in their reach in the first round.

Well, I’m thinking that Vlasic and Korchinski aren’t going anywhere, and they won’t be able to move Jones due to that contract, but it does help that he’s a RD. That leaves two spots open for the below, maybe three.
Del Mastro
Allan
Kaiser
Phillips
Roos
Edit - plus Crevier and Murphy, not including Rinzel at this time.

- Angotti

KFC can launch Murphy any time now. I’d suggest the trade deadline.

It seems to me that the last 3-4 games bedard has had a lot more space with the puck. Maybe hes figuring out how to find open areas where they can get him the puck and that he doesnt have to do everything by himself. His linemen playing better has helped. He had some great looks… thats all you can ask for. Theyll start going in as long as he gets looks. Meantime, hes really doing a nice job assisting.

No way. Stan is waaày too stupid to draft that many solid defensemen. Especially non-smurfs. It is simply impossible.

I’ve been assured Blowman didn’t draft well, especially defensemen so someone obviously is giving Stan credit he doesn’t deserve.

Any kids in the the US program are the cremes de la creme of the countries best but more than that their hockey IQ is high b/c they drum it in from all sides, teammates and coaching staff.

It's no accident that so many of these kids are looked at as future NHLers and the so many of the ones here have already in the league been praised higher than their accomplishments.
Not trying to disparage Columbus' Kent Johnson, or Duck's Trevor Zegras, or even the "rookie of the year" Mattie Beniers but I wonder if their hockey schooling is a major part of their successes, not necessarily acute extraordinary hockey abilities but smarts and strong toolboxes.

Kaiser's college route had him playing well and improving year by year and understanding that his skating if ramped up was his bread and butter plus making good decisions. They knew the route he was taking when they took him in the late 3rd in 2020.

When they selected Isaak Phillips in that very same 2020 in the 5th round, they saw something and he simply improved and was never college bound, so he started with on the job training in the AHL.

Crevier is still far from Tampa Eric Cernak, but adding strength is on his agenda, and getting this taste will only make him more thirty as he sees he can play with the quicker NHLers.

He talked about the team speed the Avs have and my response was that I'm looking forward to the players KD drafted to start coming up, i meant the forwards, sorry for the confusion

Be interested to see that number every night Bedard plays, home and away.

Especially, as a % of capacity

Imagine if the Hawks weren’t able to draft Bedard. The ticket sales would be in serious trouble. And because the building is full KD is able to continue the tank for a second season.

I'm sure they are, and have a plan for it. They have to build around Bedard or he'll only be there til he's free to leave.

An interesting prospect makes his NHL debut tonight for WSH. Ivan Miroshnichenko was scheduled to come to the USHL but covid happened and his draft yr he got a form of cancer.

Widely thought to be a top 5 prospect he fell to #20 in the 2020 draft where WSH stepped up and grabbed the falling prospect. ...... Watching film of the kid expecting him to come to the USHL kid has a wicked shot/release.

WSH may have stolen a difference maker.

It is interesting to look back - here are the D prospects from 2018-19:

Forsling, Gustav 6-0 186 22
Jokiharju, Henri 5-11 188 19
Beaudin, Nicolas 5-11 172 18
Boqvist, Adam 5-11 165 17
Mitchell, Ian 5-11 173 19
Carlsson, Lucas 6-0 189 20
Gilbert, Dennis 6-2 201 21
Galvas, Jakub 5-11 165 19
Tuulola, Joni 6-2 180 23
Hillman, Blake 6-1 180 23

A lot of them played but didn't reach the heights that you might have thought. This looked like a really deep list and I was wondering what they would do with all these guys. But this logjam was broken up pretty quickly.

Still think the current list looks better (and definitely the players are bigger). Can't know how they will turn out but history says this new logjam will break up fairly soon. Drafting another guy or two this year would be OK - just refilling the pipeline.

Vlasic, Alex 6-6 198 22
Korchinski, Kevin 6-2 185 19
Kaiser, Wyatt 6-0 172 21
Phillips, Isaak 6-3 194 22
Crevier, Louis 6-7 216 22
Allan, Nolan 6-2 195 20
Del Mastro, Ethan 6-4 209 20
Rinzel, Sam 6-4 181 19
Harding, Taige 6-7 236 21
Kelley, Connor 6-1 190 21
Peltonen, Janne 6-3 174 18

Kept it to 23 or younger (Roos is 24).

Absolutely no. If the Hawks don’t want to end up like Edmonton or Toronto where the top players earn so much they can’t build any depth they have to convince Bedard and subsequent players to leave something on the table in an effort to win. If Bedard, Vlasic, Korchinski want to win they will have to take less otherwise they’ll be talking about how Chicago, Edmonton and Toronto had the best players in the game but were unable to win championships with them.
