I can’t see Johnson bring back anything but open up a roster spot. IMO he has been bad this year, and is getting crushed 5 x 5 - LAHawk
Tyler Johnson has zero value because even with 50% retention, he does not offer enough for a $2.5M cap hit. We are the ones who would have to add to facilitate any deal. |

Lots of comments from KD saying he's not looking to fire sale just any vet who draws interest. I'd guess that D!ckinson is one of the highest likelihoods to come back (along with Foligno). I'd guess he's just going to launch guys who don't have ANY future with the club. - Chunk
Yep, and was really happy to read KD saying there won't be a fire sale of vets like last yr. A kid ain't gonna learn or develop if the club gets steamrolled regularly so some vets are worth much more than their stats would suggest..... I don't expect KD to keep many vets but legit NHL centerman are ones you keep, and that's D!ckenson.
Same for Mrazak.

I like Misiak a lot. I thought he looked good in preseason and once he fills out will be a solid up and down player. - fattybeef
Was kinda taken aback when they drafted Misiak in rd 2. I had seen him in the USHL playoffs (not live) and liked his strong 2 way game, size at 6ft 1in 190 lbs, motor and skating. But he was a USHL 2C (albeit on a USHL cup winning club) without showing much offense so taking him in rd 2 seemed an overreach. Also worth mentioning last yr, only 36 games, was his first time on small ice.
I do remember Eaton(?) saying the organIzation thinking he had solid untapped offensive upside when talking about the draft...... My memory is so poor I had forgotten he played pro as a 17 and 18 yr old in Slovakia. That's the polish/poise we see when watching him.
Anyway, usually a club drafts a kid who shows offense/points in the 1st and 2nd rds and works to develop his defensive side of the puck. Misiak is the opposite.
Kid hasn't shown much offense until this yr, his first in Major Junior. Kid is really coachable. Shows in his 2 way game and now he's trying to develop offensively as the organIzation has asked of him (just short of a pt per game this yr). ...... Who knows how well he does so but he seems to have a high floor.

Exactly, so why retain for what he’ll bring back? Also, who’s he going to open up a spot for? Not many options currently, I know that could change, so we’ll see. - Angotti

Bedard’s future linemattes?
In the 2024 exhibition season and even precluding just to start right away with a possible match in camp scrimmages, why not Hayes
There is no one resembling Clark Gillies to skate on the port side right now. So Foligno or some veteran probably fills the role. However just for a look at the shape of things to come, employ Dach here for a practice scrimmage and even one exhibition. He is not a L1 ordinarily but his style would help the five man group when Bedard is out there
The future isn’t as far away should some of the kids progress. And a few more will join the ranks from the ‘’24 draft |

He looks really impressive. It's way to early but his ability to move in either direction and not lose his net, close the 5 hole regroup and get back in position is effortless. The deflection save he had the previous game was special. Be nice to see him in 4 to 5 years. |

Never underestimate desperate/stupid GM’s. Ryan Carpenter brought back a 5th FFS. What kind of haul did Jeannot bring back last year? I’m not saying TJ is some great player at this point, but I can certainly see a team like EDM looking for ANY kind of depth scoring willing to take him at a reduced price. |

There’s no doubt that some team looking for depth scoring will take him, especially with two rings on his hand. The issue is that the return will not bring back enough, even with retention, but maybe there are other pieces involved to make it worthwhile. We know that KD knows how to accumulate draft picks, soon we will see how he handles the other functions of GM’ing. |

Ric, you were asking if I am watching?
Yeah, I am emersed in the tourney, watching rewinding, writing stuff so I don't forget stuff.
So many years when the Blackhawks rarely had players asked to play for the two big North American teams, with the occasional member of a smaller Euro program as a middle line player, of defender.
This is fun.
Seeing Hawk futures in actual competition against the bets in their age group is a very good feeling.
I have gone and erased so many saved recording fearing my DVR can handle keeping all. I get them 15 early and the "hockey channel" still has the times a thirty minutes later than they televise them.
Haven't seen enough of Helenius to assure me of anything: I am spoiled like all of you wanting a Celebrini win next Summer.

It’s not about cap space, I believe that they only have two retention spots open, so using one to get a 4th round pick is the issue. |

Retention was mentioned in the context of staying above the salary floor. But as said just now, we only have two retention slots. |

I suggested earlier that TJ could retire after this season. He's definitely been through a lot. Obviously salary would need to be retained for most trading partners, maybe even brokered by a third team. |

And it was in a back to back!!..... The box says the Swiss outshot SVK 36-20!?!? As mentioned, it was a back to back for SVK and it as the Swiss's first game, and not seeing the game, it looks like the Swiss carried a vast majority of the game. ...... Anyone who saw it, was it a goalie win?
And Germany beat the Finns!! FIN now 0-2..... Gotta love the WJC.
Any way you slice it Gajan is standing tall. Really hoping SVK goes deep so we can see the Shesterkin style kid play in big big games. Misiak too.

Not following your logic in the context of the lineup, Lou. Cuz he's paired with Tinordi? ........... Really, really good news Vlasic draws back in. Doubt they'd dress him if there was any questions as far as his health. Hate to see the kid's yr stunted by injury. And from a team concept getting back your top Dman is always a good thing.

God bless, Wiz. For many wired to love jrs this is the very best time of the yr. You might be one of those guy. ....... Crazy already 2 days in. Swiss outshoot a very good SVK squad 36-20 and Germany beats Finland, FIN now 0-2, who playing against is like sitting in the dentist's chair.
And yea, how awesome is it for a Hawk's fan who had a few kids on the Gold Medal winning Canada squad last yr and now this yr 4 kids on the favorite to win the tournament USA club.
Was looking forward to seeing Helenius but did not notice him much vs Canada. ... Sale has been very quiet this yr too. A tough one as a jr for me in the Shwartz/Smaltz mold. Fancy softish types.... My Guy Honzek showing well. Big kid can skate man and has some skill in those hands.
Look forward to your thoughts on what you see, Wiz.

Great news
Tinordi is in while Crevier sits
Bad move
Crevier not sent back to AHL - yet
Tinirdi’s toughness is not needed too much
But Crevier is much better than Tinordi

Sale and Kulich with hattricks for CZE vs NOR. Hrabal stops 19 of 20 for an 8-1 win. ... Kinda wondered if they'd come back with Hrabal in a back to back vs a weak Norway squad?

If it's for moving someone like Tyler Johnson it isn't a huge deal. The retention slot would only be "consumed" for the next few months and in the summer it's free again. |
