Not a bad trade idea. But Samsonov is terrible, he’s worse than Soderblom. On the bright side, he’d help the Hawks finish 32nd.

I like the idea of holding our desirable goaltender right up against trade deadline insofar as to receive maximum value

It is always desirable to get the top end players and not a fair prospect. I don’t know much about the prospect suggested but if possible try to extract Toronto #1 even if we surrender one of our second round picks. Just not our own second round choice

We would have three first round and our own second round so four picks in top 35 - 37 depending upon our record and our draft slot

An additional consideration is to trade two first round picks for a top say oh top 7-10 or so. Would mean the Tampa and (hopefully acquired) Toronto choices. Perhaps we need to include something else which we could make doable.

Draft two players KD really likes. Imagine two future top six forwards or a top six forward and a dman from ‘25 draft

BTW I haven’t looked at the top dmen prospects insofar as who is a right hand shot

I have heard and recognize the danger of employing too much youth on defense. I recognize a veteran is paired with a youngster is a commonality. However for Chicago it is Vlasic plays with…….who and crappy third pair level dmen (including Murphy) may have a rookie partner

Well behold the Montreal Canadiens defense last few weeks. Not much NHZl experience. Yet somehow they remain competitive- not blown out repeatedly. Makes me wonder what coaching and team defense is the Montreal strategy

You can wake up and quit dreaming about Mrazek to Toronto for a #1. Friedman on HNIC just said Toronto is unimpressed with the goaltenders available, and will wait for Woll to come back from injury, and worst comes to worst call up their young goalie prospect from the Marlie’s

Maybe someone else would bite. I am not dreaming it could happen. I mention the possibility to corral a #1 and look whether the board thinks it might be a possibility. Might

Here's hoping that Powers blurb about Foligno wasn't taken out of the podcast interview that 17 did earlier in the week - hopefully there's another source to it - otherwise, that's basically what any of us can do ... watch random videos and repeat quotes.

The Leafs will win a few and all will be right in the world. Then they’ll begin losing a few weeks before the TDL and we’ll see panic set in. It won’t surprise me to see Toronto scrambling for a goalie before it’s all said and done.

Leafs #1 unprotected in 2026 or 2027 would just fine.
- RickJ

Got your eyes on Conner's cousin Gavin McKenna in 2026, do ya?

I do not see how the maple Leafs drop as far a bottom ten even out of the playoffs to have them deferring the 2025 first rounder to 2026.

Last I knew Moore was the 13th forward. Projected lines from Team USA has Moore slotted as the 1LW, https://twitter.com/usahockey

Thank you...... I guess better to be sick now before the Medal Round, but I sure was looking forward to Gajan facing the USA onslaught.

Guys on the USA SVK broadcast spent a minute raving about Rinzel, called him the best defensive defenseman in the tournament.

Not sure how credible they are, but it’s definitely good to hear. It would be huge to the rebuild if Rinzel can become a good RD shutdown defenseman for the Hawks.

What better way for the Leafs to spew their no interest in a goalie trade nonsense than to use Toronto born & resident Elliott Friedman on the Saturday night HNIC broadcast. Why have any interest - they have only given up 34 goals against in their last 8 games playing powerhouse like Columbus (3x), Buffalo and Ottawa. (And 1 of those games was a shutout vs Pittsburgh).

The real reason is simple - they don't have the cap space or the trade assets to meet the asking prices in the current market.

The way Samsonov is playing, the Leafs would consider signing a volunteer senior citizen that wants to play in rubber boots and a trench coat and use a baseball glove.

The Leafs are pinning their hopes on Woll and Jones. Neither has shown to be more than average goaltenders at this point. However let’s be fair, you can make a goalie with the best attributes of Patrick Roy, Glenn Hall, Vladislav Tretiak, Ken Dryden and who ever else and behind a defense that can’t defend the results won’t be much different. Whichever way you cut it if a team has five players taking up more than 50% of the cap you don’t have enough money left to build a competitive roster.

Agree, I saw that Friedman clip and thought the Leafs are just whistling past the graveyard, and hoping their goalie situation rectifies itself with Holl returning from injury, Samsonov coming around, or some inexperienced AHL prospect possibly carrying the torch down the stretch.

Friedman also showed a graphic during that segment with goalie buyers and sellers. Funny, despite what he said, TOR was on his list of buyers along with EDM, CAR NJ and LA. Sellers are MON, ANA, CBJ, SJ, CHI. So there is an equal amount of supply and demand. We'll see what happens.

I still like my proposed trade from yesterday's post- Framework would be Mrazek 1/2 retained for Samsonov and prospect Fraser Minten. Time to get some capable young bodies instead of 2025 or 2026 draft picks who won't contribute until 2029 or 2030 if then.

I think Woll has a future as a number because he is calm and steady, not rattled in action.
Your team can feed off that.

Theidea of the Cap going up was suppose offset teams having to pay their high end talent, but that really hasn't happened after the Cap not raising during the last decade.

I didn't see the guy Colten hit having possession when he got hit or the puck even being close to him.
Granted, Zach L’Heureux is out there to get under the oppositions's skin, and his retaliation was uncalled for, but Dach got served b/c he was out of line.

LOL, me too on the names.

I texted Gord, wondering how he saw able to get them right in the play by play.
