Something like this, but can they get that kind of return for Casey?
Having 2 more seasons of RFA eligibility instead of 1 would sure help.
https://www.capfriendly.com/forums/thread/604104 - kingcong39
Seems reasonable to me. There are tradeoffs between the two but overall pretty solid comparable.
Now the question is what teams are looking for a 2C.
The Avs jump out, Philly is a possibility...not sure who else |

Trade template for a return on Mittelstadt if he is traded (they're going to extend him).

Even if they do decide to trade Mitts down the line, he’d be a much more valuable trade piece with term on his deal then on an expiring contract.

Kulich will need to be inserted on the 2nd
Or 3rd line next year. Ostlund same following year.
I’m still not confident in Cozens ability to be a center. He’d be better off moved to the wing. I’m not that versed in Kulich at center, but he may be a better option than Cozens moving forward.
Next year
Tuch/Tage/Skinner
Quinn/Kulich, new/Cozens
JJ/Mitts?, Kulich/ new player
Greenway/Krebs/New player
Dahlin/New
Power/New
R Johnson/ Clifton,new
New
UPL,Levi - lulags
Ostlund isn't even here yet, might take him more than a year to get acclimated. Kulich at this point isn't
Defensively sound to play C in the NHL at this point. Losing Peca hurt in that aspect. Sabres need to add some Meat to there lineup and not knuckle draggers, but heavy hard players to play against and add it to the talent here or coming. |

Kulich on the 2nd line over Peterka?
Stop it. Please. - kingcong39
Balances out your top 9 quite well.
I can trust Cozens and Quinn to drive the bus on that line.
Benson-Mittelstadt-Peterka sounds a lot better then relying on a sophomore Benson and a rookie on Kulich to give you a good third line |

Fiala came off a 30 goal 80 point season.
Casey likely won't be doing that.
Casey also may only have one season of RFA eligibility left instead of two.
One season left would essentially make him a pending UFA.
Two would make a bigger difference. |

I'm done giving Cozens a lesser linemate. |

Mitts for Reinbacher - Buff36
No chance Montreal does that.
It's much too close to when he was drafted.
The more likely defense prospect target would be one at least one season removed from their draft, if not two seasons. |

Benson Mitts Kulich sounds pretty deadly to, but I don't expect Mitts to be here past the TDL. |

Really?
What makes you say that about Casey?
I'd be shocked if they didn't extend him.
They are infatuated with their guys. |

Some things I was told, greener pastures and some Teams calling on him. Colorado, Arizona and Seattle have made calls. |

Skinner-Tage-Tuch
Kulich-Cozens-Quinn
Benson-Mitts-Peterka
Greenway-______-____-
Dahlin-_______
Power- R Johnson
Samuelsson-Clifton
Levi
UPL.
Whalberg-Ostlund-Savoie is your top line on the farm next year and ready for call-up duty if one of the top 9 get injured.
The biggest question marks:
- Can UPL grow into being a consistent NHL starter ? If he can’t, you need to upgrade there as soon as possible.
- Can Matt Ellis and Wilford put together special teams units that don’t gag on a Godzilla sized nut sack.
- Can Adams finally acquire the top 4 RHD this team needs. If he can’t package Krebs/Rosen and take your pick of draft picks. I’ll drive to the cul de sac and pack his crap myself - Swedish_Jesus
Only thing I’d charge is Kulich centering the second and Cozens moved to the wing.
Fisrt unit PP should be
Tage, Dahlin
Kulich, Tuch, Skinner/Mitts (skinner is very weak on the walls but has obvious value on the PP) |

I think it will all depend on how the second half of the season goes. If we have some moderate success, KA will grossly overvalue retaining Mitts and to your point, he is 1 year from UFA so he will feel the need to either give him a long term deal, or a very highly paid bridge.
I don’t think Casey is the problem this year. Note the only players playing at or above expectations this year are the only ones who didn’t get a massive contract from the Sabres, yet. |

Which is more than ok.
But I am not worried about bridging Mitts just because the 4th line may collect splinters on their a$$ because they are playing 7-10 minutes a night with a majority on your PK (which I hope would be the case).
Florida is a wagon because their top 9 is absolutely stacked with Barkov, Reinhart, Tkachuk, Bennett, Erod, Lundell, Luostarinen and VERHAEGHE* - Swedish_Jesus
*I fixed that one part
Last year was a cap challenge and Zito couldn’t add any real depth.
The 4th line is helping them be that wagon. This year’s new additions are also taking pk and defensive zone weight off of line 1, that’s is part of why Barkov and Rhino are tearing it up. Not to mention that they all forecheck like crazy and wear teams down. It’d be great if they cashed in more often, but at least they set up Barky’s line for a lot of Ozone draws, often against a tired line because line 4 forced them to ice the puck. |
