Interesting that Pang mentioned that the latest gloves are made with less protection than the older ones so players could have better stick/puck control, and that hits on them readily broke bones.
- wiz1901

I thought he was talking about the cuffs being way waaaaay shorter - but I guess he might have also been talking about being less stuffed - might be true. The cuff thing got me wearing wrist protectors - like lightly armored wrist sweatbands. Stupid to gut the effectiveness of protective equipment...

... maybe that hit wouldn't have happened if we had a Ryan Reeves type on this team.
- Hawkytalk

It would have - because Bedard hung himself out to dry by going all one armed try to corral the puck again -and was in about the most awkward position he could have been in to take a hit. In fact it was really just a matter of time since Bedard had been doing that stuff every game lately. It is partly a product of crappy passing... also the dumb push em back entry that never really fools anyone.

It was not a dirty hit. It was and unfortunate hit.

Also pretty sure Roenick had a jaw issue too; I seem to remember him with a specially adapted helmet after an injury.

That’s just so todays namby pamby snowflake can break his wrist and get a few months off to play on their PS5s in their Mom’s basement.

You're catching on, Chief. We'll make you into a knuckle-dragging mouth breather yet, eh?

Edit - also, adding "and sniff lavender" to the end would have raised the meathead quotient.

Did Bobby Hull miss any games with a broken jaw? I remember him coming back with a QB face mask soon after his broken jaw. I also remember him getting into a fight with his Detroit shadow Bryan “Bugsy” Watson at the stadium
- LAHawk

He missed 1 game. He fought Ferguson in Montreal with the broken jaw

I thought I remembered the JR thing - wasn't aware that he did it twice, though.

Watching the TB-Boston game. TB going with 11F and 7D which Cooper often does. With their lack of forwards, might see LR do that next game.

I thought the hit was clean, hard but clean. Smith was standing his ground and Bedard ran into him. Yes Bedard’s chin hit Smith’s shoulder but he let Bedard come to him. It’s a freak accident. But these are the kinds of hits I want to see.
- paulr

I don't think Bedsy saw him at all as he was bent, lost the puck and concentrating on that aspect and then between the traffic a bus appeared and Bedsy wasn't ready.

Vegas figured out a way to do it.

Also the Rangers for the most part. Basically all of their key guys were trades or FA signings since the dudes they drafted 1 and 3 aren't huge barn burners.

MacKinnon, Mikko, Makar and Byron are the only drafted players on the Avs. Can't imagine Landeskog is going to play again but I guess he would be technically 5th.

Other than Barkov and Ekblad Florida is all signs or trades and it wasn't until they went outside the org and got the chuck that they were able to make a deep playoff run. Obviously hot goaltending helped there but he was also a FA signing.

And those teams are a lot more fun than Ottawa, Buffalo, Montreal or Anaheim at this stage.

They gotta get guys at some point. If a very good player is available now you get them now. Especially with how well Vlasic has shown and how good Bedard is today. That 100% moves up the timeline IMO.

A covid shot rejector?
(It causes him to be unable to cross the border and do his job?)

I dunno, yeah tell us why you have no taste for him...

I believe Jones ultimately got one but I think he was in that conspiracy camp for a minute.

The top four players I would not complain. Of course Celebrini is best case scenario.

Might draft very early in 2025. The prospects from 2022 - 2025 drafts ideally need to become difference makers and practicality is they would be an upgrade - even a big upgrade.

There are some mid level prospects who showing their ware appear they could become solid L2 and L3 contributors. Let’s hope this works out.

Presently there are too many L4 forwards and three veteran dmen who drag us down. I don’t even like Murphy in a third pair because I feel we need good skaters everywhere and not average to below average skaters. If Murphy gets injured for a prolonged period - of - time (again) we might not be able to get even a third for him.

There is reasonable expectation that some of these prospects on defense develop into descent even good players. But naturally we need to hit a home run with our top choice in 2023, 2024 and really helpful in 2025 too

- jhawk59

If they maintain the status quo between the pipes it'll be another top 10 pick but they should at least start to look good some nights and they need to have some progress in terms of team building other than just dudes they drafted.

Remember Q's treatment of Michael Kempny ? I think LR is giving Phillip's the same treatment, will be interesting to see him play in a different jersey next year.
- LAHawk

Kempny also isn't that good of a player. He filled a role with the capitols but he's one of those dime a dozen players. The metrics for Philips are abysmal - kinda like Kurashev - maybe a guy who has the tools and you'd like to think they'd figure it out but it just doesn't seem to come together.

I, like you, thought Korchinski should have stayed in junior but he’s up now and has to learn his weaknesses under pressure. I noticed against New York he didn’t force his rushes and pinches and was always in position defensively. Last night he was out of position allot again and had a terrible night defensively. I think he is also a bit timid in physical situations but he’s a 19 year old boy who needs to get stronger, that’ll come. Let’s give him a couple of seasons before we make absolutist judgements.

As for Nazar, let’s hope there’s chemistry with him and Bedard. I also hope he can do his share of sniping. It’ll prevent teams from double teaming Bedard if there’s another legit scoring threat on the ice. Also I’m tired of seeing teammates unable to find Bedard or receive a pass from him. But most of all Nazar has the speed and hopefully awareness to get on the rush when Bedard does so Bedard has an option other than to try to deke around the team himself or just give the puck up.

- paulr

He also makes a lot of good stick checks and distrusts the play very well at the blue line in terms of denying entries. He can also make a tape to tape pass which is nice.

I think most of the issues are understanding when to go forward and when to hold back or when to pinch and when to drop. When to take the body when to use his stick. He's not gonna learn how to do that stuff when he can get away with cheating in the juniors.

Should start to see some consistency hopefully next year and then go from there.
