So we can dream all we want what slot we get.

Instead of people imagining the draw outcome, I’d be more attuned to the rank 1-5 who you want and or think KD will draft. Which is kind of hard to say as it may depend who is selected ahead of our turn

So who do you want?

I fear the Hawks drafting #3 and selecting Lindstrom.

The last time the Hawks used the third overall pick to draft a 6’ 4” prospect from Medicine Hat it didn’t work out too well.

Trust who is in charge of making the choices
Do you trust KD?

If it is Tallon, he had the obvious correct call on Kane and Toews (was Tallon in charge back then) but he blew it on some Russians and Skille. Skille should be the hockey entry in Webster’s Dictionary for an example of an oxymoron. Even ironic too with his name.

Smith choose C Barker?

I hear you. Greatest fear is to have the #3 overall. Of course if you are in for the dman you like most and he is taken third, you worry if Lindstrom goes #4 to us.

What is the expression Pang uses

Holy jeepers? Something like that

An expletive deleted word(s) the rest of us might utter.

Darth Kane,

In the 1980 NHl Entry Draft many French Canadiens clamored for les Habitat to select home town Dennis Savard first overall

He went 3RD to Chicago

Do you remember the sandwich pick #2 overall and to what team?

I am sure that 6628 reads this and says, Doug Wickenheiser #1 overall
BUT
His sister was a tremendous accomplished player!

I recall not Wickenheiser sister but Pascual Rheaume sister, Manion, the goaltender. Attractive lady. I had her hockey card too! Don’t recall exactly but I think she got to play in an NHL exhibition game?

At this point who cares about Kessel’s two way game or lack of leadership? If the Hawks sign him he takes some heat off Bedard, he gives Bedard a guy who can convert his passes, teams can no longer double and triple team Bedard because there’s a real scoring threat on his line and if Kessel can put up some goals he may be a TDL move for a draft pick. But my main purpose of posting this was because it had been a point of discussion on here for a few weeks.

IMO he doesn't move the needle at all. He wouldn't change anything about coverage of Bedard, he is another guy that tops out at like 30 points and isn't dangerous at this stage. They aren't going to find a good line mate for Bedard off the garbage heap of players nobody wanted to sign.

Apparently GREG BEACHAM the writer of this article on the trade, quotes Flyers GM Briere that
“It was a long time coming,” Briere said. “It’s been going on for a while. We tried to give him space. We tried to get in touch with him many times. He would not communicate ... so at some point, we had to make a decision, and we thought with what happened just a few days ago, this was probably the time to get the highest value.”

Really glad we weren't the ones trading for him, red flags in the character department. I read the report that Philly talked to 18 to 20 different teams (he was willing to sign with) in lining up the trade.

That would be a good choice. Toews was a pretty good #3 pick.

Just an example of a GM realizing a pick wasn't going to work out and being smart enough to move on from it to get a nice return BEFORE said player loses value.
- Elbows15

What do you mean the pick wasnt going to work ou? He refused to sign, what else could the gm do?

HI Jhawk, the 2nd pick as I recall was a D man named Babich (spelling?) and either Vancouver or Winnipeg was who drafted him. (too lazy to look it up)

Dave Babych was a point producing defenseman even as a rookie on Winnipeg. He was traded to Hartford and continued producing points. His NHL career was neatly 20 years and he was an all star a couple of times. Sarge Savard came over from Montreal and helped form a good pair. Later he was in a pairing with Randy Carlyle. The later half of his career he was usually minus the offensive production.

His brother, Wayne, was in the league for roughly ten years notably on St Louis. His brother had a memorable fight with John Wensink (Boston tough guy) which you could see on the internet.

I am fairly certain this was all about not wanting to play for Torts.

I respect Keith Jones and Briere making nice and also being quiet as they attempted to get the best deal for the kid, the smart thing to do.

I am sure it was a tough trade to make because teams with young prospects (who haven't restricted their locations) that they are weary of trading and becoming excellent NHL players, but Ducks have a few meow young defenders with NHL calibre talent, so they WERE willing.

Seth Jones, Joey Anderson and Taylor Raddysh apparently skating in the morning skate this morning. Don't know if that means they will be playing, but good to see a few guys getting closer to returning if they aren't.

I agree Bread, I know that the roster looks bad, but now Bedard is out for a bit anyway, so just wait for some of the injured to come back. I’d rather pick up someone younger through a trade, someone that can play top nine for the foreseeable future, not just this year.

I think that second line could be a good one, Anderson was playing really well, JD has been great, and Blackwell is really playing with a lot of guts right now.

I don't care either way. But if they signed him and he got on one of his hot streaks he could be tradeable at the TDL. By then some of our injured may have returned. Maybe another playoff team will have an injury and they will need some scoring. He would be cheap (and the Hawks could eat 1/2 of the cap hit). You might pick up a 3rd round pick.

Id like for the Hawks to sign Kessel. But I don’t think we get anything beyond future considerations for a player who could be had for free by any team right now.
If we’re looking to deal at the deadline, I’d look at Richardinson, Murphy, Mrazek, Blackwell.

Both known to be out of position when they take a run to check the opponent. And they are in same pair. Neither recovers well especially since both are average to below average skaters. Almost want to wish one was injured so that anyone else could be part of the pair- can’t imagine feeling any worse about a tandem. Crevier should be in. Even Roos recalled to step in.

Reality is it is like a nightmare

Is Kessel done? Does he want to continue to play? And is he practicing on his own right now? I feel like there's something we don't know. Vegas sat him through the postseason, after letting play the whole regular season.

Other trade candidates I'd wonder about are Tyler Johnson and Raddysh if they are healthy at the deadline. But knowing KD, he's not going to give anybody away, and will only trade a guy if the price is right. We can say trade everybody for whatever picks and prospects they can get, but they still have to field a team.
