I guess they already have written Phillips off then. Thought this was also a development year.

Go look at Phillip's fancies. Not good but for me it's one of those deals where the fmy eyes don't back up the fancies....... Sure, the 23ish yr old big rookie makes some mistakes but he always looks like he belongs and has NHL tools.

Agree 100 percent, Phillips should be playing 15-17 minutes a night.

Thus far I like Pitlik a little better than Beauviier. Obviously small sample size, but he goes to the front of the net when he should. Baby steps.
- Chunk

Interesting comparison. One guy playing to survive in the NHL and trying to make the most of this opportunity, and another guy who is likely to take a pay cut on his next deal, and was just traded from a penthouse suite to a basement setup.

I didn't realize there was another Pitlick besides Tyler. He and Rem are cousins, I read.

Kurashev wants the puck, Reichel not so much.
- LAHawk

Idk, thought he helped create a couple scoring chances and was noticeable dishing on the PP. Thought it was one of his better games and one where he looked more like the guy that ended last season.

Maybe, but you already know what Tinordi is. His best games are when he is in the press box usually because of an injury.
- LAHawk

He is here to punch people, so Bedard stays alive and sells more sweaters

Agreed, and I'd love to see Reichel get shipped out of here.

Looks like Phillips is getting the Katchouk treatment from Coach. Confusing as to why. Maybe he's trying to 'develop' Tinordi and we just don't get it.

I would prefer to think there is something about Phillips’ game…..,,, maybe responsibility is some area

I like you don’t get whatever Richardson is doing.
But I bet when Allen and DelMastro come along oh yeah Richardson will love their game and toughness

Phillips has not committed some cardinal sin and should be playing. Eventually GM KD will say something about the kid’s future whether he is playing off and on or whatever.

Philips has not been very good and his underlying metrics are very very very bad.

For those who have interest, even very mild at this point in the career of two dmen trying to hang on and earn a job

*B Clarke, LA Kings did not dress again

*A Boquist, Columbus BJ, played last two games with descent TOI had an assist and -1 on ice goal for/against. Maybe he is being shopped as a depth dman?

Also
Just how good is this Zary on Calgary? Is he a reliable descent skill player/does he have a niche or a forte?

You're pretty attuned to nuances of the sport so you'd have a better feel than me. We just don't know eaxactly what's asked of a player, what he's coached to do, but the eye test says you have a big, young, rangy kid with size that can skate, be physical and shows upside off the rush and in the Ozone.

Unless he's just not taking the coaching isn't this the perfect situation to get the kid NHL reps? ....... If not do no harm to his development.

And go look up Katchouk's fancies. He's top 4ish on the team in corsi, shot percentage and IIRC GF percentage. On this roster you don't play this guy everyday unless he's in the way of a rookie????

I do like pairing Guttman and Reichel for a bunch of games. I also think Kurashev has taken a step. Kid is in on everything going on during his shifts in all 3 zones, showing a lotta speed, nose over the puck and the kid wins puck battles.

Phillip's fancies are horrible but when you watch him does the eye test match up with the fancies? It does not at all for me and I'll zero in on him for whole shifts.

I see an upside with Phillips as a poor man's K'Andre Miller. ..... Why not give him the NHL reps over Tinordi or Zaitsev?

Unearth the reasoning behind Richardson’s benching Phillips

But I do not know what is the issue with Crevier?

We got to see an engaged Reichel with his feet moving. When that happens we see his athletic, quick twitch, skill/speed game and when that happens he's dangerous.

Yes, in the fancy game on the PP and 6 on 5 he showed why he's near an enigma and NHL teams will wait on these kinds.

Also think KK is getting compfy. He has that look to him..... Kid looked like a 15 yr old on the PP 5-6 games ago and now he's mannin the blueline slingin the thing around.

I liked Crevier. They give 6ft 7in ankle benders looks and this kid is that big and can skate a bit. Would not surprise me to see the kid getting NHL minutes 4-5 yrs from now.

They have to balance between developing younger players and making vets with expiring contracts more tradable at the deadline. I don't envy this part of the job description for front office personnel and coaching staff.

Does anybody know what the off the ice teaching entails for someone like Phillips? Are they just giving him a few weeks to observe games and practices, and to go through tons of film? He played limited minutes at 7D the other night, and I wondered if they were rolling him out to see how he was doing in his off ice learning, and to see if he was applying any of it in game.

Clearly thats the question - why scratch the kid and dress both of those guys. If the coaches don't feel he is getting their message, send him to Rockford for playing time.

But as we both know, coaches don't disclose their reasons and they decide who they think they can win with.

ESPN+ game last night against Edmonton.
So, did not get to see it.
Any time frame given for how long Bedard will be out?

Agree and not sure why one of the other posters wanted to ship him off if he does become a consistent NHL performer.

There's no hurry and we've seen that movie before when the team thought their window was still open with guys like Teravainen, Forsling and a few others to a lesser extent.

Crevier can tie opponent up due to his size but clearly he needed to put on muscle through summer workouts- he was about 190 pounds skinny on that tall frame when he turned pro

He can hit and play tough when he wants to but primarily just tries to play effective smart mistake free. More strength and confidence comfort after a couple years then he might display some meaness.

Going back to the defense discussion, is it just me, or does it seem like Zaitsev is playing a decent simple game, not noticing him much these days, in a good way. No need for a face puncher in the NHL in 2024, just waive Tinordi when Jones returns to the lineup.

Athletic actually wrote about that this morning (Zaitsev). So to answer your question…no.

Somebody needs to remind Korchinski that he is a horse out there and that he has all of the speed in the world to bring the puck up and in on power plays. The drop passes in the neutral zone (or worse, in their zone) are predictable and so vanilla compared to his capabilities. (I know he is 19, but this is part of his game that I cannot wait to see come alive with age, maturity, and confidence)
Vlasic brought the puck up and got it deep a few times in Edmonton's zone; it was awesome to see.

If McDavid hits FA when his current contract is up, the Hawks should offer him a blank check and tell him to write the #. What a monster.
