What I heard yesterday from a friend is that apparently he had surgery on Monday and he had a fracture on both sides of his jaw.

Hearing Connor Bedard underwent surgery on Monday to repair his fractured jaw.

Bedard is expected to miss approximately 6-8 weeks, meaning #Blackhawks will unfortunately need an injury replacement at #NHLAllStar.

Does it matter what Tinordi and Zaitsev (remember Zaitsev cleared waivers last year, and the Hawks picked up Tinordi on waivers) do over the next 2 months? Think other teams pro scouts do not already know what they are? Do you think a 10-15 game "good stretch" is going to cause a playoff team to give you more than chattel for them? Besides, you would definitely have to retain to move Zaitsev.

Flyers have already come out and said they are willing to retain on Walker and Seeler. Savard is available from the Canadiens , Barrie, Bovquist, De Angelo are some of the other defenseman available at the trade deadline. I do not see Zaitsev/Tinordi being in the top 15 available defenseman that a bubble or playoff team are looking to acquire for depth.

They already went out and acquired Megna because they saw what the kids were bringing and they wanted them to get high minutes in the AHL. Kaiser's already been there for a while. Crevier just got sent down, and Phillips is going there as soon as Jones returns.

The FO and coaches have apparently seen enough to say that these kids are not ready to be taking minutes in the NHL yet.

Just no free-agent signings that are overpays for the sole purpose to get to the cap floor. Lets see where the GM spends his $30 million.

Preach!!

Have some purpose to the moves outside of the damn cap and more draft picks.

My vote is for Vlasic. Not that I get one.

Athletic actually wrote about that this morning (Zaitsev). So to answer your question…no.

Interesting, I don’t have a subscription. I’m just tired of seeing a 31 year old defenseman(JT)making stupid decisions. He was covering Murphy’s man instead of sliding over to cover McDavid, what was he thinking? Let’s hope that #25 sits when Jones comes back and not Zaitsev.

Dach, Nazar, someone they traded for and a couple of UFAs would sure make this team look different. And to play a hard game like they did the last two games would require some harder to play against types like possibly Dach and a UFA or two.

Also it would be nice to see a more competitive lineup so LAHawk will stop being so miserable.

This plus resign D!ckinson and Mrazek, and the trade(s) better be for younger forwards.

I’d add Foligno and yes any trades had better be for a younger guy. There’s talk Anaheim is overloaded with centers, I’d love to see McTavish in the Hawk lineup, he has skill and plays with a sour disposition kind of like one of the Tkachuk brothers.

About as sarcastic as your hatred of Murphy. Reichel looked good last night, loosened up and flashed some of his talent, but I've yet to see any respectable level of compete in his game.
- Dieselhead

Not sure what you mean. He looked pretty dialed in last night and wasn't afraid to stick his nose into board battles. Actually won a few...or is this some sort of carryover from the JJ Eurosmurf era?

Agree and not sure why one of the other posters wanted to ship him off if he does become a consistent NHL performer.

There's no hurry and we've seen that movie before when the team thought their window was still open with guys like Teravainen, Forsling and a few others to a lesser extent.

I was a big TT fan going off his WJC's and the eye test showed his quick twitch/explosion was difference making. ... Then he just alligator armed pucks too many times and I fell in the he's just too soft camp. I was wrong.

I see a lot of TT in Reichel, and that goes back to his draft yr when I watched any film out there after they drafted him. As I'm watching I'm thinking this guy reminds me of someone. High cruising speed, multiple gears, excellent on his edges, lots of explosion in his feet and hands...... After a bit I thought, TT, he reminds me of TT.

We saw what Reichel did late last yr, 15 in 23 and passed the eye test. I'm willing to suffer thru him figuring it out, assuming he does, cuz he has rare quickness/explosion qualities.

I would prefer that too (Tinordi sitting). He's a #13 dman on a decent team.

Considering there isn't much else like Reichel in the immediate pipeline (maybe Nazar, but he'll only be one year removed from hip surgery), there is no reason to give up on the 21 year old. Look at Kurashev finally figuring it out.

No player is going to be able to be exactly what you want every game. It simply doesn't work that way. Keep coaching these kids to find some consistency in their games and it should work out great.

Same. Like I said, there's no hurry and the last thing you want to do with this team is decide a guy's ceiling only to find out that was his floor.

The one thing Terabyte did that I liked that I'd love to see Lukas add to his game is shooting more and from anywhere. Especially that first season or two, he surprised GT's by firing it on net from just about anywhere.

Somebody needs to remind Korchinski that he is a horse out there and that he has all of the speed in the world to bring the puck up and in on power plays. The drop passes in the neutral zone (or worse, in their zone) are predictable and so vanilla compared to his capabilities. (I know he is 19, but this is part of his game that I cannot wait to see come alive with age, maturity, and confidence)
Vlasic brought the puck up and got it deep a few times in Edmonton's zone; it was awesome to see.

If McDavid hits FA when his current contract is up, the Hawks should offer him a blank check and tell him to write the #. What a monster.

- frafra

To my eye the game has slowed down for KK starting maybe a couple games ago. He just looks more poised, specifically in the Ozone. .... Just a matter of getting NHL reps for the kid IMO.

Vlasic is a train coming up ice. IMO he has plus straight away speed, is very good at shielding the puck and his hands are pretty quick. You will not take the puck away from him as he trucks up the ice, you gotta veer him off and out of runway.

Last night was the best game of the yr and the best part of the game was Vlasic on the ice every time McD was and the kid showed the feet and reach to keep that freak of freaks framed up. ... At least once I saw McD come up the right side, enter at cruising speed, saw Vlasic and he cut to the middle instead of dealing with the kid.. I'd bet if you asked McD about Vlasic he'd say they have something there.

Eye test is he's okayish. Times he looks fine others he looks not fine. I think Miller is a stretch. Maybe a 12-15 minute won't kill you type player. Seems like he's been kind of a project. For all the whinging about developing guys and taking their time it seems like being cautious with him and not overly traumatizing would appeal to most here.

He's tall and can skate. I think his floor is NHL player - ceiling not especially high. They have a lot of guys who fit that mold at this point. Maybe they want him watching more so they can point out what not to do.

I think at this stage theyre trying to have some consistency somewhere and maybe showcase guys. Tinordi is certainly expendable and not a guy to keep around long term. If he keeps accumulating points maybe they can pawn him off to Toronto which I think would provide a lot of entertainment of the folks on this board.

Maybe Zaitsev has expressed interest in proving himself and they want to try to do right for those veterans before the TDL and you'll see Philips take on a bigger role towards the end of the year.

- fattybeef

Meant to mention this a week ago. The fancies that the public gets is nowhere near, not in the same stratosphere, as an NHL club gets. So there are times we look at a player's fancies and wonder what the hell the club is doing.

Point is, who knows what fancies matter to the club concerning Phillips. ...... No, Phillips is no K'Andre Miller, but their build and skating are similar. ..... I see his ceiling a bit higher than you. If the stars align I see a big, rangy, physical 2nd pairing guy who can pitch in 25-30 pts.

And if I'm right on his "possible" ceiling you gotta develop this kid properly, cuz 2nd pairing guys that have size and can skate don't grow on trees.

Broken jaw is normally 4-6 weeks but can extend beyond that bested on severity and any surgery. Do we know if he had surgery? I had a hairline fracture in my jaw years ago that didn’t require surgery but I got awfully sick of eating soup and oatmeal.

I think somewhat similar.

The goal for next season should be to see more of those young guys start to make an impact and improvement from within. If there is a trade to be made that makes hockey sense, sure make it, but I really hope they don't try to force it. There is no reason to try to rush and screw it all up IMO.

I think we've been seeing the culture shift but it's not an overnight process. Davidson has already said that this TDL won't be a fire sale, the draft picks we have just need time to actually be NHL ready so that the team can actually improve organically and not become a flash in the pan team that has 1 or 2 good seasons before being back in the middle of the pack again.

- breadbag

Not sure which phase, but sure hope the organIzation is in the next phase of the rebuild next yr. Not sure what that looks like but it shouldn't look like this yr just as this yr doesn't look like last yr.
