Who else do we think the Hawks will extend? Here are my guesses with just kind of made up "estimated" probability of the Hawks extending them. Of course, the probability (in my mind) will effect each other. For example, if for some reason they keep Tinordi, I would assume the chances of keeping Zaitsev drop.

We have these UFA right now. I think the first three have a decent chance of remaining with the team going into next season. I think the rest it's really not likely in my eyes, but stranger things have happened.

Mrazek - 80%
Blackwell - 75%
Beauvillier - 70%
T Johnson - 25%
Pitlick - 30%
Sanford -30%
Megna - 25%
Zaitsev - 20%
Tinordi - 10%

Their blue lines haven't been great but I think the issue has been more between the pipes than anything else.

Florida has recently risen but they had to add a lot from outside the org to get there. They have a grand total of 3 players they've drafted on their roster now.

- fattybeef

That's true but the key piece to their puzzle is Barkov. They lucked into Tkatchuk wanting to leave Calgary and was able to ship off an aging Huberdeau who was also a top 5 pick i believe so no matter how you slice it the top 10 picks are relevant

Agree on Mrazek as they will need him or an equivalent, might as well keep him. If Blackwell keeps playing well, probably back too. The next 4 I don't think will fit.

One of the last 3 figures to be back as the #7 d-man, leaving the third pairing for young guys.

Then one or two outside UFAs coming in.

How many 4th liners is KD going to give 4+?

Be prepared for another season of plugopoolooza

no way they get to the cap ceiling in next 2 years....we need to get to the floor....I trust Kyle from Chicago. Pls have you seen a NMC yet on any deal he has completed? StanBo handed those out like candy
- glennjpawlak22

The contract amount is the NMC. Bowman wasn't signing plugs to elevated contracts like KD has to date.

Now that we know Mrazek said the team saved his career, that's the number I agree with most.

Blackwell is probably lower. Good chance he gets moved at the deadline. This is a sell high.

Beauvillier, I'm not seeing it, even at a lower cap hit.

Good chance TJ retires, and I'm sure he's hoping to get moved at the deadline for one last shot, if he can just get healthy in time.

Pitlick, Sanford, Megna, I have no idea. I don't know who is projected to make the squad in camp, and who they plan to target this summer.

Zaitsev and Tinordi are closer to zero. If they're lucky someone will give up a fifth for Tinordi. Zaitsev seems done. Only chance is if there aren't any other defenders who make the team out of camp, or they don't sign any others this summer.

I’m pretty confident KD will ice a better team next season, he has to.
- paulr

I will take that bet. He is going to run pretty much the same roster out there. He stated that he doesn't want to being FAs in until h knows what has with the prospects.

It will be plugs and journeymen with a smattering of young guys other than Bedard.

Zaitsev will prolly go back home but he is better than Tinordi and Megna. Like a lot better than either of those pylons

You understand the economics of the situation right?

They aren't paying them based on career trajectory or ceiling/upside in the future. It's all about the role they are playing on a rebuilding team, which is an elevated role. Realistically these would be guys playing 3rd line minutes right now on a normal team (4th line plug is BS and you know it)

With the Hawks, they are getting more minutes, closer to second line and playing an expanded role on the PK and helping the younger guys while we rebuild. KD isn't trying to fit a team under the cap and these are short term deals. That's why it works and makes a heck of a lot of sense.

I saw a studio segment where Messier took note of KD's strategy, and talked about how important it was to have players like Lee Fogolin there to guide the emerging core in Edmonton.

Hopefully the first three at most. If these guys are all brought back next year, we can expect another horrible season. I would imagine 3-4 more rookies will be up with this team next year. Also hope that their blueline is full of young defensemen. I wouldn't be mad if we never saw Tinordi play another game in a Hawks sweater.

Ha! I love the logic Wiz. Don't trade the pick because schadenfreude.
- Chunk

There is lots of instability on how they proceed, in the same way the Blackhawks Cup nucleus pac-maned the Hawks cap, munching it up, and the entire future was tied more to preserving Cap, trading guys who contracts HAD to be larger to stay around.

This year it that Tampa pick, but I am pretty sure the Lightning will improve and move out of the lower slots and into the playoff spots (or at least close).

I simply don't know what the leafs can do.
The have will, the big line and I am not sure where they bolster or how they CAN blister their depth.

My biggest concern is tanking for a third season. I’m hoping KD picks up some decent UFAs on short term contracts to get the team to progress on the ice.
- paulr

Well, I see a pretty solid top 5 of prospects in 2025 as well, so James Hagens, Anton Frondell, Michael Misa, Porter Martone, and RD Logan Hensler are consolation prizes.

I'll be surprised if anything more than Mrazek and maybe one forward from this list is on the team next year.
