Yeah that one's tough. Glancing at who Wiz has going in the first round, there weren't a lot of names you could crowbar "bust" into.

Bustly Catton
Carter Yakembust
Konsta Helenibust
Cole Buston
Sacha Bustvert

Imagine if they draft a Russian with that pick he'll go crazy.

He isn’t. But he’s showing signs of improvement.

I haven’t really watched Parekh but it sounds like his defense isn’t great. But his offense sounds to be very good.

He's kind of weird to me, i think his stick work is really good in the dzone, he does look like a machine going from station to station, he can pin guys along the board as well, biggest thing for me and the most positive is he's not a liability in his own end and when he does get the puck on his stick even with pressure he makes positive plays out of his zone. After 40 games he and Vlasic just continue to make more positive plays than negative.

He is improving. I think he sometimes gets stuck standing around watching the play unfold. But he wasn’t strong defensively in junior so it’s to be expected. He also goes on too many offensive forays, he isn’t picking his spots, he just seems to always go. Teams will pick up on that. But he may be the best on the team in moving the puck out of his zone. His passes are so good and yesterday when he missed a pass I couldn’t remember the last time he did. I wish he were sometimes more selfish and shoot instead of defer.

Oliver Moore (CHI) since the World Juniors: 5GP, 1G, 7A, 8PTS, +7, 16SOG

Now up to 23 points in 24 games as a freshman, while shooting just 5.5 percent. #Blackhawks

Oh it is exciting to think those two prospects might eventually become first pair top line players. Or just very good second pair and second offensive line

Moreover I look forward to an entire team that skates well including dmen + a good physical checking effort forwards and defensemen. With a lot of youth there will be enthusiasm and improvement as the team grows and matures together. As well anyone not ready to compete or playing how the coach wants, is quickly replaced. When a player who is benched or demoted gets a second chance (after no short respite) we will notice a better effort.

I am not sold on our goaltender prospects but goaltenders need time to develop so it is too soon to feel Commesso and Stauber are ready for the NHL next season.

Gajan may have the best ability and has the size to one day emerge as the #1; if this happens it is a long ways away (years). Meanwhile I believe Soderstrom could become a consistently good but not great netminder.

I have not seen or read enough good stuff about the goaltenders YET

On another note, appears NYI loss to Blackhawks was final straw as L Lambert was relieved of his job and Patrick Roy takes command

Roy may get more out of the team but ultimately even with Pullok back the NYI will not advance far should the aging sort of pedestrian type team gain entry to the playoffs. Perhaps Roy feels like the team can advance by counting upon Sorokin to be their backbone. A solid strategy but their Conference has too many deep rosters with playoff experience so NYI will be thrawted

There is lot that you said about that bus worth unpacking further.
He is another that is ever so confident and hungry that taking off on the attack comes with little forethought, because he knows he is going to make break in and set up a look. I don't know where and how that attacking mission style gets in some players.
In forwards they get a lot of opportunities to display it and be successful b/c the lead so many zone entires and come up with various "tricks" to win more ice as the move through the attack zone.
But defenseman, I am not sure where their head & heart give themselves the green light to become forward like.

Was Cale Makar attacking his entire life from the back?
We saw Bobby Orr confidently have that 'it."

Quinn Hughes has thrived with it.

The reverse is how many kids had the "it" coach out of them?

No matter the trends, teams probably have room for "one of seven of their defenseman to be average or undersized with feet and hands to where they are allowed a green light almost all the time.
Teams understand the mismatch back in the defensive end with the ones that are "undersized offense men", but still are looking and drafting them, hoping that feet and skill is adequate to balance out the offensive plus.

If there is one fact about this 2024 defenseman class, there are a many who have had their name mentioned as first rounders.
My bet is that there will be slippage in when their names get called b/c because of all the above reasons.

And it is kids like Zayne Parekh that get me wondering about the trends and keep me going.

Pretty sure they can. Seems like they want him to work through his issues with the big club.

Per CapFriendly yes. Reichel is just one of those guys that needs to be surrounded by talent, he has skills, needs to play with more skilled players, he’ll be fine.

I think it's all a process, after i said it he's doing it where he's carrying the puck more often and longer, I'm sure it's a coincidence, he and Guttman now have to now stop being predictable and stopping along the sidewalls and looking for a trailer. There's a lot of talent there just like Korchinski but they are both kids and playing against men and much better teams.

You know Wiz seeing Korchinski live i was really impressed on how athletic he was and his skating seemed effortless. I think its just a matter of time with him.

Dach still out. R Rolston scored his #8. If there is a sleeper who emerges for a look next season, maybe he is a candidate
