A pussified, leaderless core at that.

I'll say it again, and am sure to be called crazy...this core is mentally weak and has no internal compass on how to lead. Hence, a bit dramatic for affect, but I'd consider trading Tage, Power, Kulich and the 2024 - 1st (a top 5?) for the right guy who fits the profile

Kaliyev has great skills…. One skill he is lacking is skating… which you need to play hockey. Picture Jack Quinn with 50% less skating abilities. I wouldn’t touch him

The crying that went on here when we passed on him for Johnson was outstanding.

The Sabres are a team of followers. You need leaders in order to win. I would have no issues with your proposal except I would keep Kulich. The year Tage had last season was an anomaly and he will never hit those numbers again. Power is a train wreck. He is what he is and will never be a physical player. Don’t any of you tell me he is young and has to mature… hogwash… he has not progressed at all in the physical side of hockey and he is also vastly overrated offensively. I would trade both immediately if the right offers came about

Well I don't think there should be much of the table, especially if it makes the Overall Team better. Sh!t for the right package that gave me pieces for know and the future that made the Team better I would trade Dahlin. Think he's a very good Hockey player, but IMO I think he could be and probably should be better and I blame the Sabres for that. They never properly developed that Kid, with the right Partner and Coaching he could be a Fantastic Player. Still time, but there already starting to do it to Power. Find the right Complimentary pieces that help both before you lose both. If not by the time this Team is ready for anything Dahlin is gonna want out anyway.

Now we just need to identify who fits the Profile...IMO it is ~24 -27yo, produces 80+ pts, Ctr preferred and with >53% FO win rate, physical, tough to play against.

That Tippett deal may have (frank)ed the Sabres a bit, in multiple ways.

How much are Casey, Peterka and Quinn going to cost on their next deals this offseason and next?

The GM is already frozen in paralysis.

It's likely worse now.

Coming off ELC's:

2024: Krebs
2025: JJ, Quinn, Johnson, Levi
2026: Benson, Rosen
2027: Kulich, Savoie, Ostlund

You might be able to go long term on 1, before 2027 when Skinner expires. There's a big danger in overcommitting (and they already have to an extent). They need to keep the option to extend Tuch open. Skinner isn't automatically gone. If UPL runs with the #1 job, they need to be able to pay him. This year's #1 could be higher ceiling than everyone on that list.

In short, bridge them all and figure Mitts out.

Considering their performance, are they already over-extended?

I'd say yes, before they even deal with this wave of 1st rounders who are all looking at the Tippet/Cozens/whoever comes next deals.

Does the contract situation matter for the player that fits your profile above?

How many players in the entire league fit your profile? Less than five?

Why would any team with such a special player be remotely interested in trading such a player?

I'm not even sure what a bridge deal looks like in terms of AAV for Peterka and Quinn.

In large part, because it's so early for them.

Zegras 5.75 is probably well beyond their top end bridge.

Vallardi, Dach, Newhook, Necas, Glass all in the 2.5-3.5 range.

He is a terrible skater. Was at the draft, is now. We don’t need anymore terrible skaters. We’ve got plenty

Well Quinn was hurt, it's a nice raise for both. And unless they explode, it's fair

Looked things up.

Can't do a 3 year bridge unless you want to recreate the Reinhart situation as it'd walk both to a year before UFA status with ARB rights.

2 year bridge would be the term, if they don't go long term.

As for your comparables:

Vilardi - Signed a 2 year deal at $3.4M (4% of cap) per after a 23 goal 18 assist season, and that season was the first bridge deal he got (one season term)

Dach - Signed a 4 year bridge (!!) at $3.4M (4% of cap) per after the trade from Chicago to Montreal, and a 9 goal 17 assist season

Newhook - Another Kent Hughes special, signing him to a 4 year bridge (!!) at $2.9M per (3.5% of cap) after a 14 goal 16 assist season

Necas - Signed to a 2 year bridge after this ELC (and a pair of slide seasons) at $3M per (3.5% of cap) after a 14 goal 26 assist season

Glass - Signed a 2 year bridge off his ELC (and a pair of slide seasons and a 1 year bridge) at $2.5M per (3% of cap) after a 14 goal 21 assist season

Zegras - Signed a 3 year, hotly contentious bridge off his ELC deal at $5.7M per (7% of cap) after a breakout 23 goal 42 assist season

Both Peterka and Quinn are on the same 27 goal 27 assist 54 point pace, with Quinn having missed the games he did.

With zero additional development and production, and another season to go before their ELC's expire, I don't see any of your $3M range examples as comparables.

If they were, the percent of cap would be roughly 4%, which would be $3.6M with the $90M or so cap limit after next season.

However, they are much closer to Zegras as the comparable, and even at 6% of a $90M cap limit, that would put both Peterka and Quinn at a 2 year bridge with an AAV north of $5M.

I don't see how it's fair.

I looked it up, and $3M is roughly $2M low based on their production rates this season, let alone if they develop further and produce more the rest of this season and next season.

Also, you cannot do a 3 year bridge, as you'd be walking them right into the Reinhart situation.

That cannot happen again.
