Hawks will widen that gap. They have played better at home recently. After this Western swing and the all-star break, they have something like 11 of next 12 games at home and will win some.

In 3 years Vlasic will be our first long term contract.

They should probably give him 5x7 or 8 now if hell take it.

Chris Vosters needed someone beside him who defers to (because he seems humble and willing to defer opinions) and after Eddie, I think Panger was a good choice, but after awhile, knowledgable watchers, even casuals see that the Blackhawk offense is loaded with guys, less able of handling pucks in traffic, and simply all around less skillful than much of the defenders.
(I think the coach has them playing with a system, and the players have bought in on.)
So, lots of Panger's emotion to me translates as would, should, coulda.

My issues with the broadcasts are with the intermission team.
Last night when I came back the already on the TV game, to see the start of one of the periods and looked at the muted likes of Pat Boyle, Caley Chelios, and Charlie Roumeliotis and thought to myself, "Is this what I am going to be relying on to bring me competent coverage in the final years of my life

- wiz1901[/I]?

No, I am not sick...just sick of them.

I am pretty sure Pat Boyle was hired by the channel and I am really not sure when he got there, but he is an announcer not any sort of long term fan (from what I conjure by his opinions and his observation parrot what he has heard.)

Charlie Roumeliotis is a better content writer than I possibly could be, but he knows only what he is feed, with a narrow understanding of what is and isn't.

Caley Chelios is by far the most knowledgable of the three growing up in a hockey house. I only elevated to thi9s status when she was Voster's colorwoman when Pang was off double dipping on a TNT broadcast.

A few years ago after Kyle took over, I knew we were going to be barraged with broadcasts of wait the future IS coming.
I never thought that they could try and sell the current future with the hype that "current personal has shown above average performance."

They are selling the game, seats and TV time.

But man what I would give for a new host who had more hockey expertise and knowledge.
And Charlie Roumeliotis is privy to all the insider stuff, the extent of injuries, the possible moves, the general locker room consensus of the staff, but he certainty is only be their media parrot.

As much as some of us here feel the team's future is bleak, I think this intermission report seals the idea that they are unable to draw enthusiasm through the bullfeatehrs that comes out of their mouths too.

I may be one of the few people who doesn't really care for Pang. John Scott is a moron. The staff in general doesn't do any prep work statistic wise or roster wise or anything else like that intelligently. They all just kinda shoot from the hip which is unprofessional and annoying. Voters not knowing the game well enough really makes it rough sometimes.

I think Len Kasper would be a better listen during the game and at least prepare for it professionally.

He's done football and baseball so I guess slower games but at least I don't think he would be completely clueless.

I get what you are saying. He isn't bad offensively just isn't gonna win any scoring races IMO. Probably gonna get his 20-30 points and be a solid well rounded guy. I think his production might fluctuate depending on how the team is scoring as a whole. He isn't gonna be a big offensive generator, but will get his touches on the puck and opportunity to blast it on net.

Just for comparison, Seabrook averaged ~35 points per 82 games in his career and while scoring is up, I don't think Vlasic will get to his level, just IMO but probably better than say a Nik Hjalmarsson who averaged just a few under 20 points a season. Time will tell and I could be dead wrong, I don't think anyone had him really improving this much this quickly on the defensive side, so maybe he keeps getting better and better, but this is my predicition.

Maybe for me, a good comparable for him might be Colton Parayko. A big guy, defends pretty well, puts in a little bit of offense and eats minutes. He got 5x5.5 on his first deal after his ELC and then signed a 8x6.5 deal next. I just hope we don't end up with a Darnell Nurse contract.

Seabrooks ability to hit that home run pass up or across the ice without giving it away was pretty incredible in his prime. Didn't maybe get as many assists as he should have but getting those clean zone to zone exits are super valuable even if not on the score sheet.

Pickle makes a lot of fantastic outlet and deep passes. He's picked up some nice helpers on some and had many more fumbled away. 8 years and 5.5 per would be fine. With him being 22 I'd expect he'd want a 4 or 5 year deal so he can sign again at 27ish rather than 30.

A story came out yesterday that Bedard had an additional 6 weeks. It was a misunderstanding and was quickly clarified. The original timeline still stands. That's why I hate posting on here.

Whatever it's 4 weeks if he's back in 6 weeks it's 6 weeks if he's back in 8 weeks.

Either way he's going to miss most of the stretch where they have 10 home games out of 11 coming up.

I think you are overly conservative in evaluating and projecting Vlasic going forward.

This guy is showing every indication of being capable of assuming the Hawks #1 Dman role for years to come. (Hopefully he won't be saddled forever with that grossly overpaid underperformer cluelesss Seth Jones as his partner).

Don't compare Vlasic on scoring totals or with past Hawk defenceman. And he is never going to be Cale Makar or Quinn Hughes either. What we need to find out is how close the coaching and skill development staff can get him to being a Viktor Hedman clone, i.e. that 25-30 minute a night beast that controls puck possession and the pace of a game. Its still early but I'm very optimistic on his potential in time to replicate Hedman's game closely.

But if you want points out of him, for God's sake get him some NHL forwards to play with instead of the ECHL/AHL guys we've got out there now.

They have 3 wins at home since Bedard has been out. Granted, San Jose was one. They could win a few more on home ice during February.

Great post Rick, you are all over it. We really don’t know how good Vlasic, Korchinski, and some of the others will be when it’s all said and done, until they play with a more talented group.

He'll need to gain about 50 pounds to be Hedman. But I think with his vision and anticipation and especially his quick read an react to correct a potential mistake and recover he has the potential to be Hedman like as you say.

Honestly, I don't think you should expect him to be the next Victor Hedman or close to it. With all respect to Vlasic, I don't think that is probable given his body of work so far. He has shown he can play in a top pair at the NHL level and play well defensively and overall decent, but

"every indication of being capable of assuming the Hawks #1 Dman role for years to come."

To be that's putting a bit too much expectation on his shoulders. I would say he is giving indications of being a good #2 guy for the hawks future core. He would really have to keep stepping up his game a lot to be in the same class as Hedman.

There is not much to suggest that he will suddenly have a surge in offensive production/ability/skill that would put him on that path. He is having a great year and solid showing as a regular playing a lot of minutes.
