If he can do that, if he can stock up picks a few years down the road he potentially opens up all kinds of options. He can move secondary players who become too expensive for the cap, he builds up the prospect pool on an ongoing basis and he provides himself with trade capital for the trade deadline. If this is what he’s up to it’ll be a real balancing act but it would be absolutely brilliant, an opportunity to not only build a competitive team but remain competitive indefinitely.

With that said, three members of the 2018 team have been granted indefinite leaves of absences from their respective hockey teams in either the days leading up news that five members were asked to surrender, or right after the latest update from London Police.
Dillon Dube stepped away from the Flames on Jan. 21 due to "mental health" and Carter Hart was granted a leave of absence from the Flyers on Jan. 23. In addition, Alex Formenton was granted a leave of absence on Jan. 24 by his Swiss league team, HC Ambri Piotta, and is expected to return to Canada.

I don't know about indefinitely, but he has mentioned in interviews several times that this is his goal. Draft layers of talent so it can be next man up instead of trading and giving up assets while being strapped to the cap ceiling.

Yes, Bread just posted three players from tbat 2018 team that have taken a leave of absence. Kids made a huge mistake, will most likely ruin their careers, what a shame. I don’t condone what they did, but I made many bad decisions when I was young as well, but nothing to that extent.

Its unfortunate and sad that the events happened at all. I hope the victim is able to recover as best they can but those involved need to be held accountable. I get that they were just kids, but this is a serious offense and not something like a simple hazing ritual.

If the players listed are the truly the only ones involved I am relieved that none of the Hawks (Katchouk and Raddysh) were involved. If they were, I have faith that the team would handle the situation appropriately, but it's a relieve to not go through another scandal.

You can say that again.

I think you are overly conservative in evaluating and projecting Vlasic going forward.

This guy is showing every indication of being capable of assuming the Hawks #1 Dman role for years to come. (Hopefully he won't be saddled forever with that grossly overpaid underperformer cluelesss Seth Jones as his partner).

Don't compare Vlasic on scoring totals or with past Hawk defenceman. And he is never going to be Cale Makar or Quinn Hughes either. What we need to find out is how close the coaching and skill development staff can get him to being a Viktor Hedman clone, i.e. that 25-30 minute a night beast that controls puck possession and the pace of a game. Its still early but I'm very optimistic on his potential in time to replicate Hedman's game closely.

But if you want points out of him, for God's sake get him some NHL forwards to play with instead of the ECHL/AHL guys we've got out there now.

Wow...... Rarified air is Hedman who I'd guess will go down as the best all around Dman of his generation. Nothing this dude could not do and do at an elite level.
