I'm sure he's already inked into the Rockford lineup for next year, but I'm loving the growth in Ludwinski this year now that he's healthy. I really think he's going to be a good player.

And while the board is talking about Commesso, Stabuer and Soderblom I do not understand at all the question of whether or not to sign Dominic Basse.

They took a 6th rd swing on the 6ft 6in kid who put up pedestrian numbers for USHL Youngstown. Kid showed some foundation as a balanced good skater, great size and a technical style.

He's now in his 4th NCAA yr and putting up solid stats for a good program at St Cloud State..... Having these types in the pipeline gives you a reasonable shot to strike gold.

Maybe because he's a late bloomer, or quality of competition??? First "good" year was last year. Playing well now. Plus you've also got Gajan who has been reported on due to being in the WJC. I'm sure KD has a bead on what the plans are for the position going forward.

I was at the Kingston game a couple weeks ago and kept my eye on Ludwinski. Very good skater, smooth stride, good acceleration, good edges and balance. It’s hard to get a great read because Kingston has very few good players and they have four or five meatheads who spent most of the game gooning it up spending lots of time in the penalty box. But Ludwinski played a solid two way game, leading rushes, making plays around the Oshawa net, he got an assist on a very nice rush and pass.

I’m going to see Erie and Misiak tomorrow and Ottawa on Sunday.

Sweet! Yeah, it looks like he was hit with a major during the last game, not a very extensive stat line.

I'm interested to hear what you have to say about Misiak. The size and the 200' game are intriguing.

I'd love to be able to get him away from Megna. He looked much more sure of himself with Murphy.

Since they've picked him up, all I can think of is:

He's not a terrible player. I just think KK is much more comfortable with #5.

No. He's not. Smegma is what he is. Nothing special.

In regards to Soderblom. Remember last season both Stalock and Mrazek were hurt and the Bloomer was in 15 NHL games and started 13 going 2-10-2.

I'm guessing that was 13 more games then KD and LR were planning on playing him last season and the shelling he took continues into this season.

Yeah, it's definitely not great that the team is so brutal in front of him. He could have had a win or two in his previous three games if they could have actually scored a goal.

Obviously they are bottom of the league, but the top teams have scored 80 more goals than the Hawks this year. Almost 2 per game more. Just insane. Top that with their lack of coverage in the zone and it gets really silly really quick.

Nine minute video from NHL Draft Pros going into some detail on Bob McKenzie's January draft rankings. The narrator spends a lot of time on prospects who have risen in the rankings since September. This includes Cayden Lindstrom who McKenzie ranks at #5.

These links are really helpful, BM. Thanks for sharing....... I also watched the next vid with Graviteh. Both vids liked Lindstrom but found it interesting neither mentioned his skating. .. I haven't seen enough of the kid to have a concrete opinion but to my eye this kid has plus skating with some explosion in his feet.

Gajun has the rest of this yr USHL and my guess is minimum 2 yrs NCAA and then RKF. How bout Basse and Commeso next yr in RKF with Soderblom in the Bigs and demote Stauber?

It would track Commesso 2 yrs from the Bigs, Basse 3 yrs and Gajun 4 yrs? ... Spread out nicely as each prospect gets the time they need and no glut of one guy blocking another until you get to the Bigs where the cream will rise at that level.

That sounds great in theory, but with goalies more than any other position, they tell you when they are ready. I'm sure the options at the position will be in flux for the next could of years. Maybe they cut bait on Soderblom. Maybe Commesso either shines or regresses horribly, etc.

Whether a young goalie is ready or not, I would not matriculate such goalie to this team. This team as it currently stands is not young goalie friendly. Also, how many secondary assists would KK have if the Hawks had a more skilled group of forwards, the kid makes 30-40 foot passes tape to tape consistently. By the way, I’ll take Megna over Tinordi every day of the week.

He will be ready to play on this team then, if he is used to playing with not very good players.

Hard to tell since few on the team can handle them.

I think they should sign Basse also. I don't know where he would be slotted next year. Perhaps as you say in Rockford with Stauber being demoted to the ECHL.

Something to remember this year Mrazek and Soderblom have stayed injury free and have played in all the games. The Hawks are probably one of the few teams in the league who have only played 2 goalies. Odds are one or the other get injured next season and one of the minor leaguers will see some action up here.

Soderblom is the wild card. If he doesn't show much next year he may not get re-upped after the season. Or maybe he gets a year and he and Mrazek share the net in 25-26 too. This will allow the other three to develop. Depending how Commesso/Stauber/Basse perform next year, might see KD draft a goalie in 2025.

Coach Richardson on the pregame broadcast gave the lineup changes against Edmonton:

In: Reichel, Phillips, Mrzak
Out: Pitlick, Crevier, Soderstrom

Reichel with Entwhistle and Donato 3rd line

Edmonton may start the game with McDavid, Draisslti, Hyman

Last game we play d Edm they had only 15 SOG, an all time low in McDavid era

Columbus had Edmonton on the ropes after two periods in Oilers last game. However adjustments made and Edmonton came back to win

Secondary scoring had been critical to their success in their 14 game winning streak. McCloud, a rookie and former collegiate, has been helping third line scoring

Former first round dman Broberg has fell out of favor pretty much permanently

Coach Richardson looking for Reichel to compete and win 50/50 battles. Tr Murray picks him to get a goal tonight and to be ready and a factor. That is a recipe to get back in top six even if not sooner than later - put a few good games together.

Entwhistle has been playing quite well the last few games. I think his being physical is giving him confidence. Too bad he couldn’t start putting up some points.

Here it is...

I will try and throw up the profiles of the players currently around the Blackhawk slots, but I just haven't gotten enough sleep due to hockey, 5 a.m. roof hammering and general work around the house.

https://www.lines.com/nhl/drafts

One game of all the kids playing in the Canadien Hockey Leagues does leave an impression sometimes, even though they have new line mates, little continuity, and the possibility you or to I "project" the age group play as what they will bring to the NHL plus in a couple MORE years.

I really missed the days past when the broadcast included an on TV intro so I could get all the sweater numbers correct. I had to start and stop and rewind and start and stop a good 20 minutes to simply have clear reference.

What I took away was how much
Last time I saw Cole Beaudoin & Carson Wetsch (North Vancouver native) they were part of a checking line in the Gretzky Hlinka Tourney where they both did such a nice job controlling the ice and in this game they were on opposing sides.
I understand international play means you get asked to do certain jobs and they got A's there -two guys from different leagues OHL (former) WHL (latter). It is easy to say well as graduations to pro, they pigeon hole there?
Maybe, BUT is that as a Reese Johnson level or Warren Foegele or a later blooming Jason D!ckinson type? OR MORE?

One of the toughest delineations is trying to conjure the ceilings on guys like this.

One is a centre, the other a wing, but both has solid feet and are excellent prospects and the kind that can excel.
I sorta look at the Hawks past Kyle related drafts and see little emphasis on guys like this who get taken in the 2nd & 3rd, so I am watching them with maybe a change in the philosophy after the top of the second round.

In general, what the CHL prospects game showed me was:
a) San D!ckinson is on heck of a LD on both sides of the puck and isn't going to need much time to help an NHL team.
The Blackhawks already have two LD, but not that he doesn't has nice potential, but do the 'hawks need elsewhere that excludes his in their draft plan?

b) Jarone's first son, Tij Iginla is going get taken much much higher than many players who have higher ceiling, because all he doesn't take a second off, leads by example and IS a hockey player. He was so good (not as skilled as other but so impactful) that I started thinking, "Would Calgary be willing to select him at #6 when the pick?"

c) RD Carter Yakemchuk has a giant head, loves being down in the offensive fray, thinks he can out-stickhandle other junior players, wants offensive to rotate around his in close movement, is fluid and large. Is this a Korchinski mold player, or is he on a longer take off trajectory b/c he needs work in his zone?

d) Zanye Parekh looked entirely disciplined in both of his game, not the less-controlled unbridled colt we seen in so many past views.

e) YOU tell me where Berkly Catton gets taken, b/c I have no clue how much success he has as a pro. I just know he will be one.

f) As Gordie and Craig said it well, despite some backslide in other parts of his evaluation, 6' 2" RW Brent Sennecke skates so well because he had that part down when he was much smaller, and has grown immensely, and still skates like when he was small.

g) Former Bedard linemate, Tanner Howe has got some bite and a lot of skill at 5'10" 180

h) Sure there are so many right-handed defensemen in this draft, but don't expect teams to pass on so may prospects at other positions. I expect them to go but not as needs in the mid first. Watch them fly off the board a bit later later in the late first and second rounds.
Granted a few will get early entry based on their present game play.
I see SOME that the entire RD class is first round worthy, but most would be reaches for need.

i) Unrelated to the CHL prospects but a nice place to add it:
You wanna know when the second tier really has ended?
When some team select the injured Adam Jiricek best taken (because he is a better option than the rest of the board.)

and people want him re-signed.
