Read somewhere that team construction is generally looked at like this: Teams usually bet on 7 forwards, 3 defenseman and 1 goaltender, then fill out the roster with the rest.
With that:
7 Forwards - Short term, is it Tage, Cozens, Peterka, Quinn, Skinner and Tuch? That's only 6. Who would be the 7th? Casey? Benson?
If you remove both of Skinner and Tuch for the long term view, they're still only at 6 even with Casey and Benson.
3 Defensemen - Dahlin and Power are obvious, but who is the 3rd? Seems clear they continue to try and make it Samuelsson, but how much more do they need to see before they realize he's not it?
1 Goaltender - All signs point to Levi, but he has a ways to go before proving he's worthy.
Aside from the above, they badly need to improve on finding much better quality of players to support whatever core they are betting on, because they truly suck at it so far. |

"NHL team sponsorship revenue rose 21% during the 2022-23 season from the season prior, totaling $1.28 billion, outpacing growth in all other major professional sports leagues, including the NFL, according to SponsorUnited, which tracks sports sponsorship data."

They need to rebuild the organization...they need to hire a president, a gm and staff, a coach and staff, along with every other office/admin position.
They need a culture shock up in the suite's.
The organization needs to create an identity and see it through. They need to implement day to day regime the keeps everyone on and off the ice accountable.
Until that starts, the roster turnover will continue and opposing fans will keep Pegula's pockets full.
The only chance the team has is to strike lightning in a bottle (like last season) and squeak into the dance.
Until then.....memes

That's where the drafting comes in. I don't think he totally follows the information given to him by Ventura. They built there Forward pool up in the same mold. That to me says it's a 1 person plan |

Most troubling part of what I read is above. Were wins not imperative from the start of the season? We know the answer.
>>> “We’re in a situation where we’re in a bad situation, so all indicators are you’re going to go with the guy who is falling in as many games as he can when he’s shat himself from the success,” Granato said. - kingcong39

What are the chances Bensons promotion is to cover the mistake they made by not sending him to world juniors?

It's pretty much a given that Granato has taken this team as far as he can take them (answer: "not very"), but it would be nice to have a GM shrewd enough and intelligent enough to recognize the need for career underachievers expired about 2 years ago, thus saving Granato from himself.

You want bad players that are no better than Erik Johnson and Clifton.

13 years of sucking, and you are defending it
I would call it a micky mouse organization but that's an insult to rodents
there has not been a worse owner in the nhl over the last 13 years
going cheap on inexperienced coaches and gms after stating money is no longer an issue for the sabres and the team's only goal is to win cups
keep drinking that kool aid though

HBO Max has a show called Crickey, where his kids are now endangering themselves. It's great. Did you know that they have a blind tiger Hank? His name is Hunter and he's delightful. |

No. The context is, now you're fighting for your lives. At the start of the season, you can have a 5-5 month and not really bat an eye.
Now you're 10 points out because you're (frank)ing incompetent, but wait, let's translate that to "it's imperative to win now".

Despite the drafting, we're still in need of great forwards. Time will tell if prospects turn into them, some are very promising still, but need more, agreed.
With defenders though, I really think RyJo is that guy. His play, while a small sample, has been very good. Don't you think you need 4 vs 3 though? It seems like the SC winners have a couple really strong pairings, then give scraps to the third pair. |

What has shown you this organization can properly develop prospects....even more specifically young players in the NHL already? In addition, what has this organization shown you to believe they can build a competitive roster?
Time and time again, we see fresh faces come in with talent oozing out of them...only to regress into a clone of Bryson/Girgs.

The team literally drafted “The McDavid of defense” and he has progressed to where a lot of lists don’t even have him as a top 10 defenseman.
Owen Power. Concerning to say the least.
The forwards? Regression everywhere. And it’s not all on coaching.

There is massive failure, organizationally...and its 1,000,000,000,000,000% on the front office.
I don't think any player has even come close to reaching their (trigger word) potential, you have two #1 overall dmen who make Kakko and Laff look like better picks.
Rosen - unknown still
Savoie - unknown still
Ostlund - unknown still
Kulich - unknown still
Benson - middle 6 average player...at best for right now
Quinn - band-aid
JJ - having a decent year - what is his role, projection?
R Johnson - mismanaged this season, he hasn't hurt them when he played too much. I don't see a development path for him
Power - Per the Athletic:
Power hasn’t taken the step forward the Sabres were hoping for when they signed him to a seven-year extension worth $8.35 million per season in October. By most advanced metrics, Power is performing at a similar level to what he did as a 20-year-old rookie. The consistency hasn’t been there, particularly when it comes to defending in front of his own net. He still needs to add strength, both as a defender and with his shot. He doesn’t seem as decisive, either. His self-assessment was pretty simple coming out of the break.
“Normally when my gap is good I’m playing good,” Power said. “That’s a big one. And then there’s some little things. Just defending harder and moving my feet a little more. It’s all nothing crazy or nothing mind-blowing. It’s all little things that you have to continue to work at and improve on.”
Levi - completely mismanaged.
That's just the current group.
Under Adams:
Skinner
Tage
Cozens
Mitts
Krebs
Tuch
Sameulsson
Joker
UPL
have all stagnated their development
Adams failures list is too long so only this year, his failures include:
Girgs
Okposo
Olofsson
Greenway
Robinson
Clifton
E Johnson
Comrie
It's a total mess, what is your estimation of how long it will take to fix? |
|
