This is what I imagine we’ll look like against Dallas:
Skinner-Tage-Benson
Greenway-Mitts-Tuch
Peterka-Cozens-Okposo
Robinson-Krebs-Girgensons

Does a good job illustrating the lack of flexibility even those relatively conservative moves leave you.
Bold is a significant. Hard to imagine their revenue keeping up with that cap. - Lunaion
That was the impetus behind doing that exercise.
Just because they can do it, doesn't mean they're able to do it, if they're acting against an internal budget cap number. |

Illustrates it well. That would really put them in a corner, without doing anything to improve the team.
Something is going to have to give and I think they need to let it play out a bit before committing too much more. |

Did Skinner even play on the West Coast trip ?
Guy should give his paychecks to Peterka - Swedish_Jesus
Love JJP
Tage last 9 games, 2/1/3. & -4
Last scored 8 games ago.
Only if Tage gives JJP his 1st...but then JJP would be collecting more than just his. |

Tage and Skinner have a week and a half to get right.
Need 16 out of 22 points in February to keep the dream alive.
The kid line and Mitts can only do much. Especially now that Quinn is back on the shelf ffs |

I'd put it in simpler terms, need to be the best team in hockey just to be in the mix. |

Special teams is killing them.
Peca was in the organization, and they let him go.
Even simpler terms, because they are a pretty good even strength team |

It was brought up by @ntrider825 how the Sabres are having a pretty solid 5v5 season, their best since around 2011
And how power play is sinking the ship and yeah the power play is pretty damn bad, that’s an extreme drop off from 2022/23:
The Sabres also went from the best penalty differential team in the NHL in 2022/23 to 22nd in 2023/24
The top penalty differential team is a team who has worse 5v5 metrics, but a better place in the standings: the Detroit Red Wings

No clue if Peca would be a good PP coach, but I'd certainly take him over MFE. |

They have had almost 70 regular season games to fix a PP that was doomed the second teams started taking away Tage and his sicko PP production fell off a cliff.
Never happened |

They went into January 8pts out, they ended it 10pts out even with there winning the last 2 and going 7-4. Start your prospect watch. |

Even more simple,
Let's not schedule the parade for beating Chicago, San Jose 2X and LA while losing to Anaheim, Bolts, Vancouver, Seattle, Ottawa, CBJ.
The recent record may be considered their last gasp having gone underwater 3x's already, figuratively speaking. And the dumbest GM in the league is merely twirling his thumbs, being clueless on how to help the team now and in the future.

PP deserves the heat it's getting.
At 5v5, the majority of the league is between 48-52 GF%. Sabres are 50.09 xGF%. The margins here aren't big. Can have a losing record at 52% or a winning record at 48%.
Biggest problem might be they suck at getting to OT. Managing late games is still a big Donnie problem and it's costing them. |

9 points out, Vegas let me down last night.
I still believe, tank commander retired his post two years ago.
This is a good hockey team, and they have 33 games left to prove it. |

Gotta have more than one threat, and one go to set up on the PP or the D will eat it up. Rhino is killing it because when they focus on blanketing him, there’s Barkov or Tkachuk free. Pick your poison
FL PP really took off when they (finally!) put Verhaeghe’s shot out on the left circle (ovi spot). |

Sabres had the better underlyings in these three games. Levi pissed down his leg against Seattle. Tampa and Vancouver could have went either way and that’s sometimes how it goes in the NHL.
The Anaheim game was a stinker, Janaury was their most consistent stretch of hockey this year.
Talent has never been the issue, consistency and abhorrent special teams coaching has been |

Detroit still has 1 game left and Toronto is 10pts ahead of us. Even if Detroit loses we still need 10pts to pass them. |

9 points to tie them, and I’d imagine they’d win the ROW tiebreaker if they did catch them.
They play the Lightning and Red Wings 3x each down the stretch.
The Sabres hold their fortunes in their own hands.

The top 5 (the talent) has been their #1 issue this year. These are the guy on the PP and on the ice with the game on the line. They've let them down.

David Jiricek is reportedly unhappy with his recent demotion to the AHL.
Apparently his defensive game needs help with CBJ believing he needs to play alot of minutes in the A to correct some things....Jiri see it differently.
Sabres 2024 -1st and ? ( 1 of Kulich, Rosen, Savoie), throw in Joker. |
