Maybe they'll sign Reinhard to a 7 × $12 mil per
- BetweenTheDots

Not this offseason. KD will try to find some reasonable top six types, but nothing that big. It's just not in the cards.

I hope not, rather find some reasonables instead.

As I've said before i really hope KD is good at this, so far I've been very very impressed with his plan so far. I know we disagree but i think for long term success this plan is the best, and if he's better and lucky on hitting on the Nazars, Moores, Rinzels maybe just maybe we don't have to make a deal like other teams did to get PLD, Meier, and so on.

I don’t think we disagree that much. I’m on board with the rebuild and bringing the kids up at their own pace. I just want the kids to have enough talent around them so they can actually develop.

I still can’t believe that PLD contract with his history.

What if Norris is available though?
- fattybeef

Despite the injury issue, he a good player who may start be squeezed to get his ice time. Shane Pinto is back, and the new GM has been clamoring as if he wants some changes at the deadline.

Sure sure I would consider Norris a first line centre but he is big strong and skilled.

After I posted that stuff the other day, I saw that Powers did an attempt to analyze hawk's prospects and I was kinda shock that he is also spouting drivel about Colton Dach...am I the only one who is looking at his skating stride?

it might be a blessing I cannot post on the Athletic or I would be linking my draft there since the Hawk fans commenting on Powers story seemed to fall back to the 2024 draft and opinions on who to take.
Powers himself has the Russian forward on his forward board, right after he says the other kid Roman Kantserov choosing not to come over and resigned two years there.
You never know about the players true intentions and Minny waited years for Kaprisov...my idea of rebuilding is not in the midsts of real chemistry happening, an outsider guy comes over later and disrupts lines, and doesn't join the group earlier...remember that Kantserov was unable to prolong his stay after the draft to tatted even a meet and greet with what my guys who he could be part of a nucleus with.

But the fan comments are what REALLY irrates me, as there is no mention of Eiserman and all this fans saying they should take Michael Brandsegg-Nygård as if he had some huge upside, and his notoriety is being from Norway. Average
game play, no significant dominant skill set or even feet. Big, not slow that is it.

If I was able I would like up my draft and try and wake a few of the Pronman disciples up.

Wiz, do you mean you don't think Norris is a 1C?. I'm a fan but don't see Norris as a 1C.

Haven't seen Dach since camp so don't know if there is improvement in his skating but regardless, he'll never be known for his elegant feet. It's his small area below the dots/dirty area game that will decide if he's an NHLer. Being physical too.

You think his skating will hold him back at the NHL level?

Agree with you Chunk. The way I look at it they have to spend about 5M on at least one free agent just to get to the cap floor. There are 12 guys signed for next year (including 4 on IR) and, with the dead cap contracts, the cap hit is just over 44M.

Several of the RFA's will be signed with Vlasic getting the biggest pay day. Say 5M for him and the rest average 1M - 1.5M. That includes guys like Phillips, Reichel, Raddysh, Katchouk, Anderson, Entwistle. That's 19 players and 57M. Need about 8M to get to the floor.

Figure 3M total for Kaiser, possibly Nazar, hopefully Celebrini. One or two roster spots and 5M to 7M or so to get to the floor.

If some of those RFA's aren't qualified or included in minor trades, I can see another minor free agent or two being added to fill out the roster.

Whoever KD adds won't move the needle much. They will be one or two year signings and won't be around when the team is relevant again. I think he goes into next season depending on Hall and AA to be healthy and pick up the slack. Risky move if they spend some time on IR again next season. Could be another top 5-7 pick in 2025. Maybe that is what he wants.

KD talks about creating layers, for me that includes the cap and cost certainty. I believe they are going to try to sign Vlasic to a long term deal. It's what i would do.

I have to admit i was wrong. I criticized the Habs for Newhook instead of PLD, giving away those 1st round picks to the Avs, but even if Newhook is a bust they didn't hurt themselves like LA might of giving him that contract if he continues to play the way that he is, and the assets they traded to the Jets. I have to say Monahan has really worked out well for the Habs. Dream scenario get something for him to take on his contract then turn around and trade him for a 1st round pick, that's really good GMing

I pine for the days when we had Savard, Lysiak, Troy Murray and Billy Gardner. I do not believe that KFC is very concerned about winning so I do not expect him to do much at the trade deadline. Nor do I expect to see much in free agency unless he has to reach the floor for salary cap. I think he needs to see what his draft picks are capable of before he starts spending money. Let us hope that the wise one does well in this upcoming draft.

Bolded guys who had to go to other teams to win a Cup and only as complimentary pieces.

What possible moves could Kyle D. make at this trade deadline that would make this a winning team? JFC they'd have to win out starting now just to have a shot at making the playoffs.

NHL free agency is as much of a crapshoot as the draft. Just more expensive. Most players are at or past their prime and are starting that downward slide.

Yes the Hawks signed Hossa and he was the missing link that helped winning 3 Cups but, it was the draft choices and a few strategic trades that worked out that was the bulk of those teams. I think you would be hard pressed to find an NHL free agency signing that got the acquiring team to the promised land.

Kyle will sign a few complimentary free agents to move the rebuild along. Maybe he'll dangle a couple of extra young d-men via trade for someone who can help longer term.

I know it's frustrating but Kyle is trying to set up a winning team that has the resources to replace players in the future without dealing draft choices to go all in.

That's the logic used by those who wanted to trade Mrazek - got a piece of candy to take him, get another piece of candy to trade him. I get why they didn't, but I also understand the logic.

Not surprising. Big event to showcase Bedard. And Jamie Faulkner is married to some Cubs executive so there's a connection between the two franchises.

They won't be available and the players that will be available are on the wrong side of their prime years. Guys like Marner/Draisaitl if via trade will want to go to a contender, not a rebuild. If (big IF) they hit UFA status, then we are competing to pay top dollar and term for guys who are approaching 30 years old already. Guys who haven't won anything to date.

Not really at all actually. Hawks were in a position to win as a rising team that was already close to really contending. Plus the CBA allowed them to bend the cap rules to sign him to a deal that wouldn't fly today. Very different situations.

Its pretty wild how much better Bedard is at even strength than Norris is. Hossa and Havlats shots never seemed the same after the surgery. Pass

I wonder if this will put pressure on the club to ice a more competitive team next season. If they do, I doubt KD will let it impact the rebuild.

Bedard and Celebrini would put on an excellent outdoors show.

That would be sweet. And we have the best odds for now.

Also considering Bedard's Blackhawks opening night got higher ratings than the Seattle outdoor game, probably not

If Chicago win the lottery can you imagine how sour the fans in rest of the NHL will get? Can’t wait to hear all the conspiracy theories.
