If they don’t trade him, they need to sign him.
At that point he will become judged.
Kind of hard to hate on a legitimate top 6 forward making peanuts. - Swedish_Jesus
Hate?
No hate involved.
It is leveraging a redundant asset to upgrade an area of need.
If it isn't Mitts, it is Cozens or Tage.
Hence why I was probing the Board on who in order they would move. But the Board is filled with avoidance actors

They signed two long term, so I think we know their answer.

not sure donnie even gets 1 more year - homiedclown
I think you’re spot on homie.
Adams has to make a coaching change, maybe to save his job |

On this board, we often confuse answering questions about what posters would prefer with what we think the Sab4es will actually do. This is a case in point.
The Q was who would you prefer, not who the Sabres will move for a bonafide Top 4 Dman...then was supported by examples of 1st Pairing RhD's as examples of trade returns to provide better context.
The answer you provided continues the confusion. I attribute these evasive response to a PTSD-like experience of an attack mentality on this board developed over years and years. Not singling you out, just responding to the many responses which actually provided little response to the actual question posed. |

Why give a guy more chances who continues to fumble the football every other time you give it to him though? |

President Terry isn't firing either before their extensions kick in.
He *might* see if there's room in the budget to replace Matt Ellis this offseason but the hotdog of the game has eaten into discretionary spending pretty severely.
It's probably more prudent to roll the whole thing back in its entirety |

Surely, however let's say the player is a Shea Theodore / Damen Severson / Rasmus Anderson quality player. - IonSabres
For Severson, how about a 4th round pick?
Actually, this is more along the lines of what I'd offer:

I hate to trade anybody until you get a new coach that will light a fire under their azzes. Those who do not give it their full 100%, will then be traded. This team could be a lot better if they had a seasoned, hard azz coach. This country club atmosphere has done little to make this team chase and work hard for a Stanley Cup. |

Great. What's he going to do about it?
>>> Adams summed up the Sabres’ issues succinctly.
“I think there’s been times where we’ve maybe gotten away from our identity and we’ve been caught in the middle,” Adams said. “Not a good offensive team and certainly not a good defensive team. I think when you’re caught in the middle in this league you’re dead.”
>>> The Sabres outshot the Ducks 36-15 but still found a way to lose because six of the 15 shots they allowed were high-danger chances.

The quandary IMHO is:
- the Sabres are built more to playing high event hockey
- historically, high event hockey doesn't do as well in PO hockey as a sound, responsible, defensively aware team that can pop less frequently, but shut down the opposition more frequently
* yes, there are examples of where it does, but it is in the minority over the long term
So, the Sabres can either pursue:
A) being one of those anomaly teams and try to achieve success down a hard path of relying on a high octane offense to out score defensive lapses
B) adjust to achieving success in the PO's at the sacrifice of some of the fun, exciting hockey during the regular season...more of, just-get-in baby and then go from there with a team that takes care of business
I watched with fondness the Tampa Bay Lightning more to the later from the former.
I have seen the Florida Panthers matriculate down the same path last year and now this season.
Get off the damn fence Kevyn... build it right, which means you have alot of work to do. |

They are 9th in even strength goals per 60.
Last year they were 5th.
The power play falling off a cliff is the biggest reason the goal scoring has gone down.

There's an unsurprising trend where the favorite UFA RD targets get more $ and term than expected. He's definitely one. Roy might be that guy this year.
As much as I want them to improve on Joker, 8x6.25 causes major problems.

4th to 11th in 5v5 GF/60. That's a huge difference in goal scoring.

Fair.
They are a better 5v5 team this year as a whole though than they were last year (mostly due to UPL going sicko mode and making up for shoddy defending).
The biggest drop has been the special teams |

If you're just talking about Goals for, the 5v5 drop is much bigger than special teams. You have a much better point in overall goal differential.
I'm sure you know by now that I think the PP card gets overplayed. The majority of issue occurred over 1 month, when the PK was also brutal.

The Sens are #3. Columbus is #9.
It's too simple. Half the league is 48%-52% GF%. The margins are small. When you score goals matters.
15 GF, 15 GA this month. 7 came in one game, so they are 2-4. |

There is such a vast chasm in being interested in Severson before that while deal and after that it's similar to thinking you can win the Indy 500 while riding a llama. |

The Sens are a good hockey team, their goaltending is the worst in the league and that’s why they are where they are.
The Sabres are sitting 12th in the entire league in Goals% at 5v5. Ahead of Colorado, Toronto, LA, NYR, Detroit, Tampa, Philly, and St.Louis.
Special teams are the killer |

This made me chuckle.
I do agree with Lunaion though. It’s important to upgrade the defence corp while trying to maximize roster flexibility and cap space.
Adams understands that, hence the lack of total moves. Push comes to shove at some point though and you need to do something in order to win in the present |

The above often, maybe even usually, involves moving out a roster player or two who you the GM signed and likely still believe in quite a bit, in order to make the necessary incremental improvement.
Adams doesn't strike me as a GM willing to do that, meaning being open to trading both Joker and Samuelsson. |

The bold only causes problems if you let it, like being married until death do you part to players you have signed. |
