I don't think the proper comparison is to Mitts, as I hope the Sabres use his value to acquire a player at a position of higher need... Although, Casey brings a lot to the table over the past year, finally.

I think when looking at the bottom six they should be looking to incorporate players with different yet valuable skill sets that they are currently lacking on the roster and the pipeline.

I don't hate Novak, just doesn't fit the need IMO.

I was never the Casey Mittelstadt fan, everyone knows it. But he has impressed the last year and a half. Mittelstadt and our 1st should be in play. Could bring a nice package back that hits a few areas of need.

I've seen this player's name mentioned multiple times by Sabres fans as one to acquire.

He's a pending UFA, which makes trading for him dicey unless he plans on signing an extension with the Sabres.

Then there's the question of what his next deal would be.

One projection I saw had him at 4 years and $4.7M per.

I'm all for adding quality player's.

Need to have a couple guys in that bottom6 that can deliver. With all the vet min contracts and ELCs we can stand to pay one or two guys handsomely to do that job in the short term.

I'm not good at maff, but looking at CapFriendly, we have like 26M in space for next year. Even if you gave Mitts 7M, which would be a big overpayment, we'd have 19M in space to sign Joker (3M), Krebs (1.5M), 6k (4M) and some 4th line/depth players. Seems like there's a lot of room to move there, no?
