I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many prospects rising and dropping in the rankings like this year.

The consequential stuff should be reviewed, though. It sure would have been nice if they reviewed Raffi Torres' head shot on Hossa and tossed him instead of action being taken postgame. A five minute power play could have made a difference.

It’s just a tough line to draw. A bad penalty call can cost a team a game. Never played much organize hockey but to me hockey is a very momentum based sport. Bad calls can crush momentum.

Imagine getting Eiserman with the Tampa pick? As much as I would love that I just don’t see him lasting to the 20th (ish) pick.

Packaging Murphy, a 2nd round pick and Reichel as the sweetener might move the Hawks up 5 or 6 slots in the first round.

It's still early in the draft cycle. Once we get to the end of year rankings things will jell a bit.

I could clearly see the play was offsides when Vlasic threw it back in. But I also saw the linesman call it onsides. I don't know how much good they do out there if they can't get the call right unless it is something for us to female dog about.

Then review every penalty, icing, offsides call, and goal?

It’s not just about getting the call right.

- bhawks2241

There are reviewable and non reviewable plays. I dont make the rules. Most challenges start with the team reviewing the call first, not the officials. If getting it right is not important then maybe there should be no rules.

I think I counted 12-13 dmen in their 1st round. Similar to the 2018 draft.
Wiz has 10 right now at lines

Odd seeing them drop Levshunov and Silayev that much.
A few other places I've checked out have both of those 2 in the top 7.

Unless the Hawks have completely soured on Reichel and it doesn't sound like it, including him in a deal to move your 2nd 1st round pick to a pick somewhere in the teens seems like a waste of an asset.

Additionally Murphy seemingly cannot avoid multiple visit to the disabled list each season. Personally I do not care to have average to below average skaters going forward in a league geared more and more to speed

Launch Reichel to the moon, one less reminder of the Blowman era, which brought nothing but misery. Probably should include Vlasic, another reminder, in that launch.

Agreed and I don't think teams drafting in the 10-15 slots will be interested in Murphy.

Sure, the Hawks could put together a package to move from 20th to 12th, but it would be costly. Unless the Hawks believe that drafting that particular player at 12 (ish) provides them with a key piece of their core going forward it likely won't be worth it.

Best case scenario is Tampa squeaking into the playoffs and losing in the first round, giving the Hawks another pick in the high teens (where Moore was drafted). Then one of the top 10 draft prospects slides and is available for this pick.

I still favour the idea of drafting an offensive minded forward with the Hawks pick and a RHD with Tampa's.

I know you're being facetious, but I'm not ready to give up on Reichel. His trade value would be next to nothing, the Hawks might as well do whatever they can to develop him into a full time NHLer. He's likely not a top 6 forward, but he could be a very useful middle 6 forward.

If KD decides to move on from Reichel, I think the best we could hope for in return would be another failing former 1st round pick (i.e. Turcotte, Holloway).

Sounds like AA is closer to coming back (at least skating again in a white practice jersey, but no hard stops/starts).

Murphy sounds like he's much further away.

I will take AA a few games to get back into his grove, but this team will be so different with Bedard, Johnson, Beauvillier and AA back. Instead of being a bottom feeding AHL team the Hawks will now be an AHL team in the hunt for a wild card spot.

That isn’t what I’m saying. We all watch a lot of NHL and routinely see horrible penalties called that change the momentum of a game and result in PP goals.

The NHL allows challenges for offsides which result in goals being overturned b/c a guy is an inch offsides.

The NHL doesn’t allow review or challenges for most penalties, even when we routinely see egregious calls being made.

If the NHL cared about getting it right all the time then penalties would be reviewed. They aren’t b/c the NHL cares about the flow and length of the game not just about getting every call right.

This will be standard for future young checking line forwards in the rebuild, since many like to jump ahead with our future cap and it's tightrope:

The Detroit Red Wings have signed forward Michael Rasmussen to a four-year contract extension, the club announced Tuesday. The deal carries an average annual value of $3.2 million.
Rasmussen is currently 24 yr.s old..
