Not only did the hawks show Kane the door, but they video'd him walking down the hall, equipment bag over his shoulder, out the door, and waiting for a cab on the street corner. And then showed that video on tv. I'd love to know if he had to pay his own way to NY. Sure Kane could afford it, but that's not the point. To me it looked like they ran him out and tried to embarrass him. I wasn't there sunday but I'm told the tribute video was half ass. Reminds me of the time Florida fired Gerrard Gallant on the road and made him pay his own way back home.
In both cases horsepoop low class way to operate. IMHO.

If I remember Kane waived his NMC and wanted to go to the Rangers. I remember that video and thought it was kind of weird. I would think there is some sort of protocol in place in the bargaining agreement (or if not a side agreement was made between the two clubs) about how traded players get from point A and point B. I find it hard to believe the Hawks left Kane high and dry on a street corner in San Jose or wherever. Since he was Rangers property, maybe they had to pay for his airfare. They probably arranged for a limo too to take him to the airport.

Did this happen in Chicago?

YEP....Blackhawks TV or whatever she is marketing it as showed Davidson working the phones, and had him on speaker as he broke the news to Kane, and then showed Kane heading out of the hotel.

SO yeah....this narrative of how meatballs should boo him just because.....not a chance. Outside of Jordan, Kane will go down 2nd in regards to impact to the city and his personal/team accomplishments on the ice.

Yes, did he have some off ice issues? Sure.....but again, lets all remember you put social media, and a video camera in EVERYONE's hands and lets see how guys in older decades are remembered, etc. Athletes today are living in a bubble and yes are compsenated for it, but wouldn't shock me if more guys started going the Toews route and going off the grid.

Also, Toews wasn't welcomed back either, so could he have sour grapes as well? Something to consider......

Article from the Athletic about Kaiser's progress in Rockford. He has a positive attitude, is working hard, and is getting acclimated to the pro game. Kaiser also leads Rockford in ice time and is playing in all situations. And he's got his confidence back that he lost earlier in the season while playing with the Hawks. Sounds as if the development time is doing him a lot of good.

Video was OK.....but I am sure the Hawks are very cognizant of one player not upstaging the organization....until the guy got 2/3 curtain calls which I am not sure I have ever seen before

The good news is a kid like Korchinski and Bedard watching this shows how passionate this fan base is

Thank you for posting this....I thought he looked pretty good in his stint earlier this year. Hopefully he and Allen can take the next step. Even Roos and get a taste so the team can evaluate what they do/don't have short term and potentially long term.

It was planned to last for a TV timeout. I have no doubt that they'll go all out after he retires and comes back for his day in the sun.

So what you’re really saying is that Rundblad is a Stanley Cup Champion. 👍

All kidding aside about Jones....I am more concerned about the impact he's making sitting on the bench, how his play is perceived by impressionable rookie d men, and that's before you get into the room, on the plane, etc......

I could be mistaken but I dont' recall a lot of ex teammates being upset when he got shipped out of Nashville or Columbus.

My biggest beef is his ego and how it's ALWAYS about him. His play reflects that and when he speaks my head wants to explode.

that's my issue...to your point is he hurting them? Eh....debatable. Its not like this team is above .500 or even .500 when he's in the lineup so the narrative of how bad they are without him.....shows exactly what impact he has on the team.

i agree on your window and if he and his dolt brother in arms, Murphy, need to sit here and babysit minutes I get it...but the minute a young kid emerges who can handle said minutes....launch them both and don't look back.

yep....I get it, and I am sure the day #88 goes up in the rafters it will be a lot better. I didn't have a lot of beef with it. The crowd reaction made up for any short comings in the tribute, which I thought was fine.

Considering he had to take time off twice during his last season with the Hawks, and he was not listed as being an available free agent - by his own agent - yeah, I believe it 100%. If he was able to play even at 60% of what he was, SOME team would have taken a swing at him. He's got an auto-immune disease. Do you honestly not believe that?

I thought the crowd reaction was awesome. It seems the Hawks have done this for pretty much all of the former cup champions who have come back with other teams (probably to give the fans something to actually cheer for). They'll save the big stuff for later.

I hope he comes back because I would prefer to see him go out on his own terms but I truly think he's done. Maybe a contending team playing him bottom 6 minutes and PK entices him enough to take a run at a cup.....but I'd be shocked if he signs this summer.

He's off the grid. His choice, his right.....

I think he's a guy who loves the game and after a lifetime in the rink the decision to step away was difficult for him. He tried it twice, and each time he came back he hit the proverbial wall. While he said initially that he was taking a year off to attend to his health, I think that the first few months were difficult for him, but now he probably realizes its ok, and he misses the rink less and less.

He doesn't need money, he doesn't need to chase another cup, he doesn't need the criticism that he is but a shell of his former self. I think he stays away and announces his retirement.

I feel differently, it was a really depressing scene at least for me. Kane looked sad leaving the facilities. He might of been going to a playoff team but he sure seemed upset/ disappointed about it.

KD owned trading Kane saying it was time for him to move on. So everyone knows it wasn't Kane wanting out it was management telling him we are making a business decision, thank you for your services but we are going on a different direction.

It would be fun to see them sign Kane next year, yea yea yea i know it's not going to happen but it really would. Now you have 2 scoring lines

I just think that decision has been made already. He's done. He hasn't played in 8 months, and after seeing how Kane bounced back from a hip resurfacing injury, just figured if Toews was that driven to come back.....you don't think he would have had his agent put out feelers and sign a cheap deal to come back before the playoffs?

What really is another 6-7 months going to correct that the last 8 haven't already?

Didn't impact Werenski...

Murphy is around for two years after this. Probably fine for him to munch some minutes.

I think Rinzel is the only right handed defensive prospect they have - with that kind of upside - and he's probably 4 - 5 years away (assuming 2-3 more years of college and 2-3 years to figure out NHL). Only two years left of Jones at that point so it doesn't really matter.

Maybe Allen or someone can flip to that other side but haven't heard a lot there.

With how well Vlasic is playing and if Korchinski can start to get some forward momentum going - though I guess its nice he's focused on the defensive and distribution side rather than just running around like a maniac - I don't think he hurts the team performance wise or cap hit wise.

It's just going to take care of itself. Either his deal will run out or they'll replace him internally and limit his minutes and he'll demand a trade or something.

Ottawa had interest last year allegedly. I'm sure Vegas would have some interest in a year or two with how their blue line is aging out and their desire to remain competitive.

I’m hoping several of our D prospects develop into top 4 types or close to it . Kaiser Rinzel Korchinski Vlasic Allan Phillips Del Mastro….a backlog of legit NHL D prospects means the Hawks would have assets to go get a young top 6 forward or two.

Key for the front office is picking the right ones to keep and trading the “extras” at peak value.

That's fair.....I like Vlassic a lot. Has some decent offensive zone awareness and seems to be pretty good picking his spots when to pinch and when not to.

I think Dean is a huge variable and I am a fan of his. Just need to bring these kids along at a good pace and don't overwhelm them with minutes or responsibility until they are ready. Baby steps. I liked what I saw of Rinzel in the WJC. Granted very small sample size. nazar seems to be taking a large step at Michigan this year, and hopefully Moore will continue to develop.

Which of course brings us back to Reichel. I get the narrative of not going out and signing a UFA until it makes sense, but I also sit there watching in person/on tv and I just can't help but think how much support Bedard needs. I like Kurashev and hope he pans out and can be a 4-9 F. Don't think he's a top line player.

Reichel....man......is it physical and/or mental? Again, I realize it's only 84 NHL games, but the flip side to that is it's over a course of 3 seasons.....at what point do we wonder where this kid's ceiling is at because if internally you feel it's more 7-12 F best to sell high and not get stuck with a declining asset. I am not advocating trading him, and to Chunk's point, a standard QO has to happen, but if you write this year off to confidence....he comes back next fall and after 20 or so games...the same issues arise where Richardson has to move him off C to a W and it still doesnt' get him going.....that;s not an ideal situation at all.

Speaking of Toews, 14 years ago today Team Canada wins the gold at the 2010 Olympics. Toews made the all tournament team. Then wins the Cup 4 months later.
The good old days.

Got 47 minutes to spare? Condensed version of the gold medal game.

Lets look at this way.....remember when Mark Prior was complaining about his elbow in 2004 and later on.....Cubs ran every test know to man on him and I think they landed on some outlandish conclusion to suffice Mark and his camp's mantra it was physical?

Again, I know you and I will split hairs on this....but he's had a few concussions, he's got some long covid/sickness thing happening....if he hasn't been able to overcome it mentally over the last 2 years, I just don't see how out of no where it happens unless he can be convinced he's healthy.....mind over body is a powerful thing and I don't pushback on those who quietly question if Toews is making a mountain out of a moehel (see what I did there... ) when it comes to his own health. It may just come down to JT doesn't trust his body and can't overcome this mental block.

Again, just found it interesting if he was taking a year off.....why not show up to your buddy's first game back, your old team's honoring of a franchise icon, and hanging with what has been described his canadian brothers in seabrook, sharp, and keith....AND...his ex linemate in Hossa? Only conclusion I can think of is JT didn't want to answer questions about himself and that's his choice....but man, that was a tough look. Makes me believe moving forward anyone thinking you;ll JT around this team when it's official he's retired...is sorely mistaken.

I could tell on tv that the crowd reaction was awesome even though they didn't show all of it. To your point, they did it up big for Bobby Hull and Chris Chelios so sure, why not for Kane. I might even buy a ticket for that game just to see it.

In the video when Kane said he's excited for what could happen (going to the Rags) he sounded and looked like his dog just died. Whole thing seemed really cold.
I know, it's a business bla bla bla. And I'm pretty sure he didn't have to pay for the ride and flight. Still think it's horsepoop showing him on video like that. (frank)ing bullpoop.
